The current systematic review aimed to evaluate the variables influencing foster parents’ parenting stress, distress and parenting style, thereby supporting their adjustment and well-being as well as that of foster children. A PRISMA-guided search was conducted in three databases. Observational studies examining parenting stress, parenting distress (subsuming anxiety, depression and stress symptoms) and parenting style—all assessed through validated tools—were considered. A total of 16 studies were included, comprising N = 1794 non-relative foster parents (age range = 30–67 years). Results showed heightened parenting stress over time, both overall and compared to parents at large. Neither foster parents’ nor foster children’s socio-demographic characteristics significantly contributed to the increase in parenting stress; yet child-related stress and children’s externalizing problems were its main predictors. Foster parents’ couple cooperation was associated with reduced parenting stress. Moreover, the authoritative parenting style was associated with parental warmth, while the authoritarian style was associated with foster parents’ greater perceived burden, greater criticism and rejection toward the foster child. Evidence supports the mutual influence between foster parents and children. Foster care services should support foster parents’ needs within a concentric modular system, to ultimately provide better care for both foster parents and children.

A failure to integrate a child into a foster family is an acutely urgent issue in modern Russia. The growing number of adopted children and foster children goes hand in hand with the increasing number of kids rejected by their foster families. Even though young foster parents attend foster parent training centers and receive psychological support, they are often insufficiently prepared for their new role. The authors of the article conduct a research in order to improve the existing methods of rejection prevention. There is a hypothesis that there are early predictors that show that foster parents are highly likely to fail. These predictors can be diagnosed at early stages ad can be used to ensure individual approach to foster parents. The article analyzes research devoted to the investigation of psychological characteristics of successful and unsuccessful foster parents. It maintains that successful and unsuccessful foster parents have specific personal and motivation-related characteristics. Since these characteristics can be seen before adoption, the authors of the article suggest that they should be treated as tentative predictors of successful or unsuccessful foster parentage. The article maintains that the process of preliminary psychological diagnosis should be aimed at revealing predictors of unsuccessful parentage and at their correction during foster parent training. The issue of singling out predictors of successful parentage should be aimed at further investigated of future foster parents’ personal characteristics, at the investigation of specific diagnosis methods, at searching for solutions to typical problems.

Parenting for children is a highly transcendental thing in creating a young generation who has a mandate in social change. Children are the successors who will continue the leadership in the future. The existence of parenting is a behavioral pattern applied to children which is relatively consistent over time and is very influential in the formation of characteristics of children which the impact will be felt by the children either in aspect of positive or negative. Caregivers have a very big responsibility because the success of foster children is very dependent on coaching of caregivers. Therefore, the caregivers can act as a parent in giving the attention, affection and security, brothers in communicating with the children can solve the problems, the teachers in helping to learn, the service in helping to meet the needs of the children. Caregivers are people who play all roles of the orphanage to educate and direct the foster children. The orphanage environment collaborates with community and school teachers where the foster children attend school. Caregivers through foster parents are temporary, where the children must be immediately returned to the care of their parents. In carrying out its role as a caregiver, the social orphan age of children (PSAA) of Harapan Majeluk of Mataram does its job with patience and compassion, because besides acting as a caregiver, caregivers of socialorphanage of children(PSAA) of Harapan Majeluk of Mataram also roles as teachers. Keywords: Roles, Parenting, Waifs.

To understand what placement outside of one’s home means to the young people involved, we must understand foster care from a life course perspective. I analyze young people’s experiences in foster care from this perspective, accounting for when foster care happens, how long it lasts, and what happens when foster care placements end. I show that the population of children coming into foster care is younger and less urban than it was 20 years ago. I also show reliable measures of exposure to foster care over the life course. Children who enter care early in life are the children who spend the largest proportion of their childhood in foster care—a fact that rarely weighs on the policymaking process. We know very little about state and local variation in foster care placement rates, not to mention the influence of social services, the courts, foster parents, and caseworkers over foster children, so I close by arguing investment in research should be a clear policy priority.
