The purse seine is the dominant fishing tool at the Birea Fish Landing Base (FLB) which generally catches small pelagic fish. Handling fresh fish is an important part of the chain of the fishing industry. The problem that dominates fishermen and owners is the decline in the quality of fish caught due to fishing time at sea, so that preservation technology is needed that is able to maintain the quality of the fish longer from being caught until landed in the fishing port. The purpose of this study was to analyze the handling and quality of the purse seine fish catch and to analyze the handling and quality of the fish catch after landing from the purse seine ship. This research was conducted on a purse seine vessel in Bantaeng Regency from February to March 2020. Of the five vessels that were the object of research, vessels with better fish quality were vessels that used management with a ratio of 1: 1 meaning 1 kg for 1 kg of fish. The behavior management of fish traders in the market and the travel time from the fish caught to the market are factors that influence the effect of the decline in fish quality.

This research was taken in Ambon (Latuhalat and Laha) and in Central Maluku Regency (Waai) in May – July 2018. It was aimed at mapping the value chain of small pelagic fish in Ambon through: 1) mapping of product, financial and information flows and 2). analysis of percentage distribution of small pelagic fish caught. The data used in this study was primary and secondary data, and analyzed by using value chain analysis. The results show that small pelagic fish marketing chain in Ambon consisted of six models with five actors. Each chain is formed due to the conditions and situation of market, resulted by the influencing of catches of fishermen and traders' capital. The broker plays an important role in marketing small pelagic fish in the market and obtaining 10% of the fishermen's catch that can be distributed, both to retailers and cold storage. Fish caught by the fishermen is still fresh in general when arrives in the consumers, because the fishing area is not too far, the market distance with the production centers is also quite close and in general fishermen and traders have understood the importance of maintaining product quality. Even so, the role of the Government in providing marketing facilities and infrastructure is needed so that modern market conditions can be applied in marketing fresh fish in Ambon.

Due to very good collaboration with one commercial purse seiner, using “Srdelara” and operating in fishing zone G, preliminary data concerning the interaction between small pelagic purse seine fishery and its predators were obtained. According to the notes taken by experience observer on-board in period from year 2013 to 2016, seems that tunas, dolphins and swordfish were the faithful companions of purse seiner fisherman with abundance of 68.6%, 22.0% and 9.4%, respectively. Although they were present all year round, their monthly pattern of appearance indicated that less tunas were recorded in May-June, more dolphins were noted from July to October while swordfish were mostly abundant in winter (January-March). Within the investigated period, slightly increasing trend of tuna and dolphins’ appearance was recorded, although statistically not significant. Analysing possible correlation between purse seine catches and predator’s abundances, revealed that appearance of tuna had negative impact on the catches (dispersion of schools), while realised catches in presence of dolphins were quite good so it seems that they tend to round up small pelagic fish schools.

Lempasing is a Coastal Fishing Port (CFP) which located in Bandar Lampung. It is one of the centers of fisheries activities in the city. One of the fishing gear which operated by most of fishermen in Lempasing is mini purse seine. Mini purse seine fishing activities in the Lampung Bay Area and Lempasing CFP is not in accordance with the conditions of the surrounding waters area. The research was conducted in the Lampung Bay Area and Lempasing CFP, Lampung. This study aims to: 1) determine the status of fisheries resources utilization, 2) to describe the dominant fish caught by mini purse seine. Analysis methods were used in this study namely: 1) Fishing Power Index (FPI), Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE), and Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) to determine the status of fisheries resource utilization. The dominant small pelagic fishes caught were scad fish Selaroides sp., mackerel fish Rastrelliger sp., longnose trevally fish Carangoides chrysophrys. The result showed that Fox model was the best fits models with estimated maximum sustainable yield of 15.5 ton and fishing effort of 992 trip/year for mini purse seine. The longnose trevally fish in lampung bay area in do not exceeded the optimal catch fish condition can be used to sustainably. In these condition is necessary to wisely manage and setting the catches to not exceed the allowable catch of the small pelagic fish, so the stock of small pelagic fish in the Lampung Bay Area can be used sustainably.

ABSTRACT
Effort to exploitation the fishery resources can do in various ways, catching effort by use of hand line is one of the efforts in the field of fisherie. The study was conducted in the Sabutung Island Waters of Pangkep Regency, aims was to investigate the effect of different of hook size and the species composition of the catch of hand line using different of hook size. The effectiveness of hook size is determined by the highest of catches. The method used is experimental fishing on the fishing operation of hand line during 30 trips. Data analysis used normality test and ANOVA test done with SPSS 16.0. The results showed that the differences between hook size number 10 with number 8 and 12 gave influences to the amount of catch. It’s showed by sig score hook size no.10 is 0,00 and sig score hook size no.8 and 12 is 0,00 which them have sig score less than 0,05 and it meant H0 pushed away so it concluded that the hook size influenced the fishing catch. The compositions of fish catch during the study based on the amount and weight were short mackerel, Bigeye scad, Indian scad, yellow tail and diodon histrix. Short mackerel were the most species of fish caught during the research that is equal to 41,2% of the 364 tail of the total catch.

Keywords: hand line, hook size, small pelagic fish
-------

Exploitation of small pelagic fish resources in the South China Sea of Indonesian region (around 595,000 km2) especially in the coastal waters ofWest Kalimantan Province which short bodied mackerel (Rastrelliger brachyosoma) as the main target had reached at a rate of 94% of the average of maximum sustainable yield. The development of fishing on small pelagic fishes toward off shore pioneered by purse seine fleet of Pekalongan (north coast of Java) since 1985 then followed by fishermen of West Kalimantan, especially in Pemangkat in 1990. The number of purse seine of Pemangkat that only 6 units in 1995 increased every year up to 43 units in 2003. The aim of this research was to describe small pelagis fishery in the Pemangkat landing site by purse seine. Analysis was conducted based on log book data of purse seiners during the period of 2004 to 2006. During the period of 2004 to 2006, the catch of Pemangkat purse seine was mostly small pelagic fish mainly composed of 2 species of scads (Decapterus russelli and D. macrosoma), big eye scad (Selar crumenophthalmus), Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta), and fringerscale sardine (Sardinella gibbosa), also the other economic fishes. Both the catch varied between moonson. The highest catch was during the two intermoonsons and the lowest catch was during the west moonson. Catch per unit of effort of the small pelagic fishes from 2005 to 2006 mainly decreased, since the high amount of the efforts from purse seine fleets of the other locations of Indonesia as well as foreign countries.

Atung plant (Parinarium glaberimum, HASSK) is endemic in Mollucas. Fruit of Atung have been used for hundred of years by the local fishermen when they go fishing. Efforts to preserved fresh food (especially fish) were continually pursue by using natural preserver which contained bioactive compound as antibacteria. The aim of the study was to get information on the quality (organoleptic, chemical, and microbiological) of post harvested using fish kept in atung powder and atung solution. Three kind of pelagic fish were used, namely; Layang (Decapterus sp), Tongkol (Euthynus sp) and Kembung (Restligger sp). The fishes were kept in 0,3% powder atung (W/W) and 20% atung solution (V/V), with shelf-life of freshness of 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 hours. Sensory quality test was conducted by using descriptive test with scale ranged from 1 - 9. Quality parameter observed were the appearance, odor, texture, TVB (total volatile base), pH and TPC (total plate count). The results showed that quality of post harvested fresh fish kept in atung was the best treatment and with longer shelf life of freshness; i.e. 21 hours (20 th hour) (Kembung and Tongkol), while layang fish was 17 hours (16 th hour). In other hand, the treatment without atung (control) was 9 hours (8 th hour). Atung fruits were more practical, efficient than the treatment without atung, to be used as an alternative preservative by the sea-boarding fishermen. Keywords : endemic, atung, shelf-life, fresh of pelagic fish.
