This paper presents the study of fluid flow and heat transfer in solar flat plate collector by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) which reduces time and cost. In the present paper the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool has been used to simulate the solar collector for better understanding the heat transfer capability. 3D model of the collector involving air inlet, the collector is modeled by ANSYS Workbench and the grid was created in ANSYS ICEM. The results were obtained by using ANSYS FLUENT and ANSYS CFX. The objective of this work is to compare theoretically and experimentally work done with the work done by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool with respect to flow and temperature distribution inside the solar collector. The outlet temperature of air is compared with experimental results and there is a good agreement in between them.

Ceramic honeycomb is a key component of high temperature air combustion (HiTAC) system and the three-dimensional numerical model is established which is for investing unsteady thermal process in honeycomb regenerator. The start-up period of honeycomb was simulated by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software; the outlet temperature were obtained. The work in this paper provides a theory basis and guide to the exploitation and appliance of HTAC system and the results of the numerical calculation can be used as the foundation of engineering design.

The HiTAC technology (High Temperature Air Combustion) is a reliable, industry proven combustion method. A three-dimensional numerical model is established which is for unsteady preheating process in honeycomb regenerator. The preheating period of honeycomb was simulated by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software; the outlet temperature, temperature at lengthways of gas, and temperature at lengthways of honeycomb were obtained.

The research paper investigates the impact of a window’s exterior air film on the assembly temperature. The exterior air film constitutes a vital portion of a window’s insulating values. The air film increases the temperature of the window exterior pane to a temperature above ambient temperature. The air film also rises the interior glass temperature and reduces the heat transfer from the interior surface. According to computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the air film is removed in windy conditions, decreasing the window temperature on the outside as well as on the inside. The idea behind the project is to carry out an experimental procedure on three different windows to validate the CFD results, which indicates the effect of various wind speeds. Keyword: Exterior air film, computational fluid dynamics, window assembly, wind speed

New York City provides secondary treatment to approximately 78.6 m3/s among its 14 water pollution control plants (WPCPs). The process of choice has been step-feed activated sludge. Changes to the permit limits require nitrogen removal in WPCPs discharging into the Long Island Sound. The City has selected step feed biological nitrogen removal (BNR) process to upgrade the affected plants. Step feed BNR requires increasing the concentration of mixed liquors, (MLSS), which stresses the Gould II type rectangular final settling tanks (FSTs). To assess performance and evaluate alternatives to improve efficiency of the FSTs at the higher loads, New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) and City College of New York (CCNY) have developed a three-dimensional computer model depicting the actual structural configuration of the tanks and the current and proposed hydraulic and solids loading rates. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Model, Fluent 6.3.26TM as the base platform, sub-models of the SS settling characteristics as well as turbulence, flocculation, etc. were incorporated. This was supplemented by field and bench scale experiments to quantify the co-efficients integral to the sub-models. As a result, a three-dimensional model has been developed that is being used to consider different baffle arrangements, sludge withdrawal mechanisms and loading alternatives to the FSTs.

The possibility of implementing the innovative multi-disc sorption bed combined with the heat exchanger into the adsorption cooling technology is investigated experimentally and numerically in the paper. The developed in-house sorption model incorporated into the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code was applied within the analysis. The research allowed to define the design parameters of the proposed type of the sorption bed and correlate them with basic factors influencing the performance of the sorption bed and its dimensions. The designed multi-disc sorption bed is characterized by great scalability and allows to significantly expand the potential installation sites of the adsorption chillers.
