PurposeThis study aims to propose criteria for both optimal-shape and magnetizer-system designs to be used for a high-output spoke-type motor. The study also examines methods of reducing high-cogging torque and torque ripple, to prevent noise and vibration.Design/methodology/approachThe optimal design of the stator and rotor can be enhanced using both a response surface method (RSM) and finite element method (FEM). In addition, a magnetizer system is optimally designed for the magnetization of permanent magnets for use in the motor.FindingsThe criteria not only improve performance but also reduce manufacturing costs. The criteria are verified FEM together with an RSM. These methods are used to optimize the stator and rotor shape and the magnetization system. These methods allow us to produce an efficient system for mass production of the motor.Originality/valueThis study proposed a design method that uses rare earth magnets in a system to replace the spoke-type IPM. To verify the optimal design, torque characteristics were analysed using FEM and RSM. Excellent results were achieved regarding the reduction of cogging torque and torque ripple. In addition, the design of the magnetizer enables a cost-effective mass production system for the motor.

The major risk associated with low platelet count in pregnancy is the increased risk of bleeding during the childbirth or post that. There is an increased blood supply to the uterus during pregnancy and the surgical procedure requires cutting of major blood vessels. Women with thrombocytopenia are at increased risk of losing excessive blood. The risk is more in case of caesarean delivery as compared to vaginal delivery. Hence based on above findings the present study was planned for Assessment of the Platelet Count in the Pregnant Women in IGIMS, Patna, Bihar. The present study was planned in Department of Pathology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, Patna, Bihar, India. The present study was planned from duration of January 2019 to June 2019. In the present study 200 pregnant females samples received for the platelet estimation were enrolled in the present study. Clinically platelet indices can be a useful screening test for early identification of preeclampsia and eclampsia. Also platelet indices can assess the prognosis of this disease in pregnant women and can be used as an effective prognostic marker because it correlates with severity of the disease. Platelet count is a simple, low cost, and rapid routine screening test. Hence the data generated from the present study concludes that platelet count can be used as a simple and cost effective tool to monitor the progression of preeclampsia, thereby preventing complications to develop during the gestational period. For an electric vehicle (EV) with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a novel convex programming (CP)-based co-design method is proposed to minimize the total-cost-of-ownership (TCO). The integration of the electric machine (EM) and the CVT is the primary focus. The optimized system with co-design reduces the TCO by around 5.9% compared to a non-optimized CVT-based EV (based on off-the-shelf components) and by around 2% compared to the EV equipped with a single-speed transmission (SST). By taking advantage of the control and design freedom provided by the CVT, the optimal CVT, EM and battery sizes are found to reduce the system cost. It simultaneously finds the optimal CVT speed ratio and air-flow rate of the cooling system reducing the energy consumption. The strength of co-design is highlighted by comparing to a sequential design, and insights into the design of a low-power EV that is energy-efficient and cost-effective for urban driving are provided. A highly integrated EM-CVT system, which is efficient, low-cost and lightweight, can be expected for future EV applications.

Metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs) have emerged as an important class of materials for structural applications specifically in the automobile and aerospace sectors; however, development of cost effective mass production technique of MMNCs with requisite operational and geometrical flexibilities is still a great challenge. Focused research in the last decade has highlighted that ultrasonic cavitation based processing is the most promising method for manufacturing of MMNCs with nearly uniform distribution of nanoparticles, having added advantage of being a liquid-phase route. This article presents an overview on the basic principles and recent advances in the ultrasonic cavitation based processing of MMNCs with a particular emphasis on identifying relationships amongst processing variables, microstructural parameters and mechanical properties. Critical issues of MMNCs fabrication are discussed.
