An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from November 2013 to February 2014 to find out the appropriate fertilizer dose and best variety on the yield and oil content of mustard (Brassica spp). The experiment consisted of four fertilizer treatments viz., 0 fertilizer dose (control), 50% of recommended fertilizer dose, 100% recommended fertilizer dose and 150% of recommended fertilizer dose and three varieties viz. BINA Sarisha-5, BINA Sarisha-8 and Tori-7. The experiment was laid out in a two factor randomized complete block design with three replications. Both fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on plant height (cm), number of branches plant-1, number of siliqua plant-1, siliqua length (cm), number of seeds siliqua-1, 1000 seed weight (g) and oil content (%). The interaction of fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on all the plant characters except oil content of mustard (Brassica spp). The best result of the above characters was recorded in 100% recommended fertilizer dose in combination with BINA Sarisha-8. The next best result was obtained from 100% recommended fertilizer dose in combination with BINA Sarisha-5.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. March 2016, 2(1): 143-147

The present research was conducted at the experimental field of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna during Rabi season 2016-17 to investigate the growth and yield performance of mustard varieties. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design consisting of eight mustard varieties (viz. BARI Sarisha-8, BARI Sarisha-11, BARI Sarisha-13, BARI Sarisha-14, BARI Sarisha-15, BARI Sarisha-16, Rai and Tori-7) as treatment and replicated thrice. All the growth, yield attributes and yield were substantially influence among the mustard varieties except the phenological parameters. Results of the experiment showed that the highest plant height (131.33 cm), seed yield (1813.33 kg ha-1) and stover yield (3876.67 kg ha-1) were found in BARI Sarisha-16. BARI Sarisha-11 was found better in respect of maximum siliqua plant-1, weight of seeds plant-1, 1000-seed weight and harvest index. Besides this, BARI Sarisha-14 showed the maximum number of seeds siliqua-1. Therefore, findings of this study suggested that BARI Sarisha-16 would be suitable for better productivity and recommended for cultivation in the medium highland of Khulna region of Bangladesh.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea)  is commonly grown during the dry season and most farmers used the native variety. Growth retardants such as paclobutrazol (PBZ) was found to increase yield of some important crops. A study was conducted to determine the effect of different levels of paclobutrazol on the peanut yield of Asha and Farmers’ variety during the wet season. The experimental area was laid out using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) factorial. Treatments were replicated thrice. Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and  the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test was used to compare treatment means. The increasing level of PBZ increased the number of pods of Asha by 29.97% while the most number of seeds was obtained from farmers’ variety. Applied PBZ Asha at 150mg/L recorded the highest shelling percentage that is 16.19% higher when compared to the untreated. Paclobutrazol application significantly increased seed yield of Asha and farmers’ variety by 43.34% and 20.86% at 150mg/L and 75mg/L, respectively. The increase in yield was due to the observed reduction in plant height and stem growth which possibly enhanced assimilate partitioning to pods. Asha applied with PBZ at 150mg/L obtained the highest seed yield of 4.2 tons/ha. Keywords— Agriculture, yield, peanut, paclobutrazol, experimental design, Pampanga, Philippines

A field experiment was conducted comprising two varieties of mungbean, BARI Mung-5 (V1) and BARI Mung-6 (V2), and five levels of phosphorus fertilizer: triple super phosphate [Ca(H<sub>2</sub>PO<sub>4</sub>)] viz. T1 (control), T2 (42.5 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup>), T3 (85 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup>), T4 (127.5 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup>), and T5 (170 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup>). The experiment was organized in a randomized complete block design with three replications. V1 produced the highest number of pods per plant (7.65), whereas the maximum 1,000-seed weight (49 g) was produced by V2. The maximum plant height (30.89 cm), number of branches per plant (8.55), number of leaves per plant (19.05), number of pods per plant (10.25), pod length (8.95 cm), number of seeds per pod (9.11), 1,000-seed weight (48.17 g), and yield (1.05 t ha<sup>−1</sup>) were obtained from the T4 treatment. The interaction of phosphorus levels and varieties had a considerable effect on the growth, yield, and yield attributes of mungbean. The highest number of leaves (20.44) and number of pods (10.39) were obtained from V1 when 127.5 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup> (T4) was applied, whereas the maximum number of seeds per pod (9.25) and maximum pod length (9.09 cm) were obtained when  85 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup> and 42.5 kg P ha<sup>−1</sup>, respectively, were used. The highest number of branches per plant (8.87), 1,000-seed weight (52.83 g), and the maximum seed yield (1.14 t ha<sup>−1</sup>) were achieved from the treatment V2T4 owing to the interactive effect of phosphorus dose and mungbean variety.

An investigation was carried out at the experimental field of the Department of Agronomy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur during September to November 2014 to evaluate the productivity of three mungbean genotypes, viz., GK-24 (G1), GK-63 (G2) and BU mug 4 (G3) under four plant spacing (densities) such as i) 15 cm x 10 cm= 66 plants m-2 (D1), ii) 20 cm x 10 cm= 50 plants m-2 (D2), iii) 25 cm x 10 cm= 40 plants m-2 (D3) and iv) 30 cm x 10 cm=33 plants m-2 (D4). The experiment was conducted in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. A wide variation among the genotypes was observed in relation to light transmission, yield, and yield contributing characters. At 30 cm x 10 cm spacing (D4) the highest light transmission ratio (LTR) was observed in G1 genotype (57.92) and the lowest LTR value in G2 genotype (46.92). Among the three genotypes, G1 produced the highest seed yield (1094 kg ha-1). But highest seed number pod-1 was found in D2 (11.61) while maximum pods plant-1 (11.08) was in D4 treatment followed by D3 (10.59). Among the four plant densities, treatment D3 showed the highest 1000-seed weight (50.30 g). The highest seed yield (1114 kg ha-1) was recorded in the treatment D4. Among the interaction, the highest number of seeds pod-1 (12.20) was found in the treatment D1G3, though the highest number of pods plant-1(12.03) was in treatment D4G1 but the1000-seed weight was the highest (51.92 g) in D3G1. The highest seed yield (1230 kg ha-1) was recorded from treatment D4G1. The result showed that GK 24 genotype performed the best in all respects of yield and yield attributes at 30 cm x 10 cm spacing compared to other treatments.Bangladesh Agron. J. 2016, 19(1): 11-17

The experiment was carried out at Experimental field, Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture Technology and Sciences [formerly known as Allahabad Agriculture Institute Deemed University, AAI-DU] during the Spring season 2014-2015. The experiment consists of Thirteen treatments viz., (T0) Control-RDF (100:120:100 N P K  kg ha-1,), (T1) 75% RDF + AZ@ 2.5 kg ha-1,, (T2) 75% RDF + FYM @ 10 ton ha-1, (T3) 75% RDF + VC@ 10 ton ha-1, (T4) 75% RDF + AZ @ 2.5 kg/ha +FYM @ 10 ton ha-1+VC @ 10 ton ha-1, (T5) 50% RDF +AZ@ 2.5 kg ha-1, (T6) 50% RDF + FYM@ 10 ton ha-1, (T7) 50% RDF + VC@ 10 ton ha-1, (T8) 50% RDF +  AZ @ 2.5 kg ha-1+FYM @ 10 ton ha-1+VC @ 10 ton ha-1, (T9) 25% RDF + AZ@ 2.5 kg ha-1, (T10) 25% RDF + FYM@ 10 ton ha-1, (T11) 25% RDF + VC@ 10 ton ha-1+, (T12) 25% RDF +  AZ @ 2.5 kg ha-1+FYM @ 10 ton ha-1+VC @ 10 ton ha-1. The treatments were replicated thrice in a Randomized Complete Block Design. The results revealed that Plants treated with 75% RDF + AZ @ 2.5 kg/ha +FYM @ 10 t/ha +VC @ 10 t/ha (T4) significantly recorded maximum vegetative and Tuber yield attributes like plant height (91.87 cm), plant spread (92.38 cm), Number of Branches per plant (7.27), number of leaves per plant (26.53), number of tubers per plant (4.80), maximum tuber weight (958.53) and Maximum tuber yield per plant was recorded in T4 (75% RDF + AZ @ 2.5 kg/ha +FYM @ 10 t/ha +VC @ 10 t/ha) (43.33g) followed by T3 (75% RDF + VC @ 10 t/ha) (40.95g).

A field experimental was conducted at Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar during rabi 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 in randomized complete block design with sixteen treatment combinations consisting four levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg S ha-1) and boron (0, 1, 2 and 3 kg B ha-1) replicated three times. Application of 30 kg S ha-1 showed marked improvement in growth and nodulation parameters in pea. Increasing dose of boron in the absence of sulphur up to 3kg ha-1 resulted marked improvement in growth and nodulation in garden pea. Higher values of plant height, number of branches plant-1, fresh weight plant-1 , dry weight plant-1, number of nodules plant-1, fresh weight of nodules plant-1ha- and dry weight of nodules plant -1 were noticed with combined application of 30 kg S + 2 kg B ha-1.

A field experiment on influence of sulphur and potassium levels on yield and yield attributes of sesame was conducted in Agronomy Research Farm, University of Agriculture Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during Kharif season, 2017. Varying levels of sulphur (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-l) and potassium (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-l) were applied to experimental plots. The results revealed that sesame significantly responded to the application of sulphur and potassium up to 50 kg ha-l for growth, quality, yield and yield attributes of sesame. The taller plant (76.83 cm), maximum number of branches per plant (3.87), more number of capsules per plant (43.82), more number of seeds per capsules (59.36), maximum seed yield (673 kg ha-1), maximum stover yield (1078 kg ha-1), more oil content (48.76 %) and maximum oil yield (291.7 kg ha-1) were noticed where 50 kg ha-1 sulphur treated. On the contrary taller plant (76.97 cm), maximum number of branches per plant (3.93), more number of capsules per plant (42.77), more number of seeds per capsules (59.36), maximum seed yield (617 kg ha-1), maximum stover yield (1043 kg ha-1), more oil content (48.65 %) and maximum oil yield (286.6 kg ha-1) were recorded from 50 kg ha-1 potassium treatments.Res. The study was conducted at farmers’ field of Itbaria, Patuakhali sadarupazila under Patuakhali district during January to April 2016under the agro ecological zone AEZ-13 (Ganges Tidal Flood plain). This site was located in between 22°14' and 22°29' North latitudes and in between 90°12' and 90°28' East longitudes of Bangladesh. Fifteenmungbean varieties viz., BARI Mung-1, BARI Mung-2, BARI Mung-3, BARI Mung-4, BARI Mung-5, BARI Mung-6, BINA Moog-4, BINA Moog-5, BINA Moog- 6, BINA Moog-7, BINA Moog-8, BU Mug-1, BU Mug-2, BU Mug-4 and Patuakhali local Mung were tested to select best suitable variety for costal region.The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with threereplications. Significant variation was observed among the different mungbeanvarities in respect of majority of the observed parameters.BU Mug-1 showed the tallest plant height while the tallest pod length was observed in BARI Mung-5. The highest number of branches per plant was found in BINA Moog-4 whereas the highest number of leaves per plant found for BARI Mung-6. The highest seed yield and yield attributes like number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and 1000 seed weight was recorded in BARI Mung-6 followed by BINA Moog-8 while Patuakhali local Mung produced the lowest yield and attributes. Most of the yield contributing factors of BARI Mung-6 wasfavorable for better yield in coastal region of Bangladesh. Crop pollination is crucial for increasing yield, ensuring food security and improving livelihoods. To quantify the response of pollinators on rapeseed, an experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design (RCBD) at three agro-ecological sites: Semi-natural (Megauli), organic (Fulbari) and intensive agriculture (Jutpani) Village Development Committees of Chitwan district in 2012/013 and 20013/014. The treatments were: i) open pollination; ii) plants caged with honeybees (Apis melifera L.); iii) hand pollination; and iv) control (plots caged without pollinators) replicated four times. Pollinators visiting rapeseed flowers, plant height, branch number, siliqua/plant, pods weight/ siliqua, test weight, and seed yield/hectare were recorded. The dominant pollinators were Hymenopterans mostly honeybees. The impact of pollinators on each system resulted in significantly increased yield attributes compared to no-pollination, which clearly indicates the need of integrating managed pollination and pollinators' conservation to sustain rapeseed production in Chitwan through biodiversity-based ecosystem services.

This experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during 2014-2015 to know the combined effect of different levels of sulphur (S) and boron (B) on yield and yield contributing characters, nutrient and oil content of mustard and to find out the suitable combination of sulphur (S) and boron (B) for yield maximization of mustard. There were 16 treatment combinations comprising four levels each of S (S0= 0, S1=10, S2= 20 and S3= 30 kg S ha-1) and B (B0= 0, B1= 1, B2= 2 and B3= 3 kg B ha-1). It was replicated thrice in a randomized complete block design. Results showed that the combination of S and B (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) contributed positively for better performance of yield contributing characters of mustard. The combination S2B3 (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) produced the highest grain yield (2180 kg ha-1) followed by S3B2 and S3B3 treatment combination. The highest protein and oil content of mustard were recorded from S3B3 (30 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) treatment followed by S2B3 treatment combination. Therefore, the combination of S and B (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) might be suitable dose for cultivation of mustard in tejgaon series soils under agro-ecological zone of 28 (Madhupur Tract) Bangladesh.Bangladesh J.
