This experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during 2014-2015 to know the combined effect of different levels of sulphur (S) and boron (B) on yield and yield contributing characters, nutrient and oil content of mustard and to find out the suitable combination of sulphur (S) and boron (B) for yield maximization of mustard. There were 16 treatment combinations comprising four levels each of S (S0= 0, S1=10, S2= 20 and S3= 30 kg S ha-1) and B (B0= 0, B1= 1, B2= 2 and B3= 3 kg B ha-1). It was replicated thrice in a randomized complete block design. Results showed that the combination of S and B (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) contributed positively for better performance of yield contributing characters of mustard. The combination S2B3 (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) produced the highest grain yield (2180 kg ha-1) followed by S3B2 and S3B3 treatment combination. The highest protein and oil content of mustard were recorded from S3B3 (30 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) treatment followed by S2B3 treatment combination. Therefore, the combination of S and B (20 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg B ha-1) might be suitable dose for cultivation of mustard in tejgaon series soils under agro-ecological zone of 28 (Madhupur Tract) Bangladesh.Bangladesh J. Strawberry (Fragaria X annanassa Duch.) is highly exhaustive and responsive to chemical fertilizers. An experiment on strawberry was conducted in fruits research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur over three consecutive years, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 to find out the suitable combination of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and sulphur (S) for yield maximization of strawberry. Fourteen treatment combinations were tested in this trial comprising four levels each of N (0, 90, 115 and 140 kg ha-1), P (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1), K (0, 85, 110 and 135 kg ha-1) and S (0, 15, 25 and 35 kg ha-1) with blanket dose of 4 kg Zn ha-1, 2 kg B ha-1 and 10 t cowdung ha-1. The experiment was set up in randomized completely block design with three replications. Results showed that treatment combination N115P40K110S25 (underscript represent kg ha-1) produced higher strawberry fruit yield (9.59 t ha-1) followed by N90P40K110S25 kg ha-1 and N140P40K110S25 kg ha-1 treatment combinations. The lowest fruit yield (6.05 t ha-1) was found in control (N0P0K0S0) treatment. Therefore, the combination of N115P40K110S25 kg ha-1 may be considered as suitable dose for strawberry cultivation in terrace soils of Bangladesh.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 43(1): 89-97, March 2018

The field experiment was carried out during the period from July to November, 2013 at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh to investigate the influence of nitrogen and phosphorus on the growth and yield of BRRI dhan57. The two factorial experiments were laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Four levels of nitrogen N0: 0 kg N ha-1, N1: 90 kg N ha-1, N2: 120 kg N ha-1, N3: 150 kg N ha-1 and three levels of phosphorous P0: 0 kg P2O5 ha-1, P1: 25 kg P2O5 ha-1 and P2: 35 kg P2O5 ha-1 were used in this experiment. Data revealed that at 30 and 60 days after transplanting (DAT) and at the time of harvest the tallest plants were observed in the treatments N2 (120 kg N ha-1), P2 (35 kg P ha-1) and treatment combination N2P2 (120 kg N and 35 kg P ha-1) whereas, the treatments N0, P0 and treatment combination N0P0 (without N and P) showed the smallest plant height in each case, respectively. Side by side, N2,P2 treatments and N2P2 treatment combination gave the maximum effective tillers hill-1, highest length of panicle and the maximum filled grains panicle-1. The highest 1000 grain weight (20.85 g), grain yield (4.95 t ha-1), straw yield (5.39 t ha-1) and biological yield (10.34 t ha-1) were found in the treatment combination N2P2 and also found highest in each individual under N2 and P2 treatments.

A field experiment was conducted at Division of Vegetable Science SKUAST-Kashmir Shalimar during rabi 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 in randomized complete block design with sixteen treatment combinations consisting four levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg S ha-1) and boron (0, 1, 2 and 3 kg B ha-1) replicated thrice . The study revealed that combined application of 30 kg S and 2 kg B ha-1 recorded significantly higher values for number of seeded pods per plant (7.00), number of seeds per pod (5.95), seed yield per plant (7.20 g), seed yield per ha (24.0 q), 100- seed weight (17.32 g) , Stover yield per ha (25.54 q) and maximum net returns of RS. 141243.0 with returns per Re invested of 2.43.

A field experiment was carried out to study the effects of inorganic nitrogenous fertilizer and organic cowdung manure on growth and yield of carrot. Three different levels of urea along with three different levels of cowdung were employed in the investigation following randomized complete block design. The result revealed that the application of 150 kg N ha-1 as urea was found suitable for maximum gross and marketable yield (47.35 t ha-1 and 39.0 t ha-1, respectively), while 15 t cowdung ha-1 showed better gross and marketable yield (38.13 t ha-1 and 30.42 t ha-1 , respectively). Regarding the combined effect, the combination of 150 kg N ha-1 and 15 t cowdung ha-1 resulted in the best performance in gross and marketable yields (51.22 t ha-1 and 43.41 t ha-1, respectively). The net return (TK. 211142 ha-1) and benefit cost ratio (4.61) were maximum in the treatment combination of 150 kg N ha-1 in the form of urea and 15 t cowdung ha-1.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v10i1.12012J. An experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Farm of the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during  the period from November 2010 to January 2011 to study the effects of cowdung and potassium on growth and yield  of Kohlrabi. The experiment consisted of three levels of cowdung (0, 20 and 40 t/ha) and four levels of potassium (0,  20, 50, 80 kg /ha). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. All the  parameters were significantly influenced by application of cowdung and potassium. The highest plant height (44.65  cm), number of leaves per plant (12.11), length of largest leaf (37.54 cm), and breadth of largest leaf (18.66 cm) were  obtained from the highest dose of cowdung and potassium applied (40 t cowdung + 80 kg K/ha) while the lowest  plant height (33.64 cm), number of leaves (9.01), length of largest leaf (27.94 cm), and breadth of largest leaf (11.00  cm) were obtained from control treatment combination. The highest fresh weight of leaves (49.33 g), fresh weight of  knob (328.66 g) and fresh weight of roots (66.55 g) per plant were also recorded under the treatment combination of  40 t cowdung + 80 kg K/ha, while the lowest fresh weight of leaves (22.11 g), fresh weight of knob (136.00 g) and  fresh weight of roots (23.33 g) were obtained from control treatment combination. Similarly, the dry weight of leaves  (19.34%), knob (15.19%) and roots (32.75%) were highest under the same treatment combination of 40 t cowdung +  80 kg K/ha and the lowest dry weight of leaves (11.71%), dry weight of knob (7.38%) and dry weight of roots  (15.29%) were obtained from control treatment combination C0K0. The marketable yields of knob per plot (7.86 kg)  and per hectare (39.58 tons) were also the highest under the treatment combination 40 t cowdung/ha and 80 kg  potassium per hectare.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v10i1.12035   J. The study aimed to determine the effects of different levels of phosphorous and zinc fertilizers on the yield and nutrient uptake of maize (Zea mays L.) The experiments were  conducted in a factorial experiment under Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) to determine the effect of P and Zn applications on TZL white composite improved variety            of maize. Four levels of phosphorus (0, 10, 20 and 30 kg P ha-1) and three levels of zinc (0, 5 and 10kg Zn ha-1) were applied on experimental plots of 4.5m x 5m replicated thrice.  The results shows no significant differences in both the  years however, highest mean values of 2327.5 kg ha-1  and 2191.5 kg ha-1 was recorded at 20 kg P ha-1 and 10 kg Zn ha-1 Application of P and Zn at different rates increases their uptake in the stover with highest values of 22.57 mg -1 kg  and 7.8 mg -1 kg  in 2018  at 30 kg Pha-1 and 18.40 mg -1 kg  and 5.21 mg -1 kg  at 20 kg Pha-1  in 2019. While 26.54 mg -1 kg and 21.85 mg -1 kg in 2018 at 10 kg Znha-1 and 6.76 mg -1 kg and 5.27 mg -1 kg in 2019 with 0 kg Znha-1 respectively. It is therefore recommended the best results of the application of 30kg P ha-1 and 10 kg Zn ha -1 should be adopted for optimum yield of maize.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from November 2013 to February 2014 to find out the appropriate fertilizer dose and best variety on the yield and oil content of mustard (Brassica spp). The experiment consisted of four fertilizer treatments viz., 0 fertilizer dose (control), 50% of recommended fertilizer dose, 100% recommended fertilizer dose and 150% of recommended fertilizer dose and three varieties viz. BINA Sarisha-5, BINA Sarisha-8 and Tori-7. The experiment was laid out in a two factor randomized complete block design with three replications. Both fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on plant height (cm), number of branches plant-1, number of siliqua plant-1, siliqua length (cm), number of seeds siliqua-1, 1000 seed weight (g) and oil content (%). The interaction of fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on all the plant characters except oil content of mustard (Brassica spp). The best result of the above characters was recorded in 100% recommended fertilizer dose in combination with BINA Sarisha-8. The next best result was obtained from 100% recommended fertilizer dose in combination with BINA Sarisha-5.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. March 2016, 2(1): 143-147

A field experimental was conducted at Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar during rabi 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 in randomized complete block design with sixteen treatment combinations consisting four levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg S ha-1) and boron (0, 1, 2 and 3 kg B ha-1) replicated three times. Application of 30 kg S ha-1 showed marked improvement in growth and nodulation parameters in pea. Increasing dose of boron in the absence of sulphur up to 3kg ha-1 resulted marked improvement in growth and nodulation in garden pea. Higher values of plant height, number of branches plant-1, fresh weight plant-1 , dry weight plant-1, number of nodules plant-1, fresh weight of nodules plant-1ha- and dry weight of nodules plant -1 were noticed with combined application of 30 kg S + 2 kg B ha-1.

To evaluate the effect of head pruning and different nutritional systems (chemical, biological and integrated) on yield and seed oil content in medicinal pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.), an experiment was conducted in Kermanshah/Iran during the 2013 growing season. The experimental treatments consisted of two levels - no head pruning, control (Co) and head pruning (C1) allocated to the main plots. Four levels of different fertilizing systems - control (without fertilizer) (T0), chemical (T1), biological (a combination of nitrogen fixing bacteria, Azospirillum brasilense and Glomus mosseae) (T2), and integrated fertilizing system (biological fertilizer + 50% chemical fertilizer) (T3) were assigned to the sub-plots. The experimental treatments were arranged as a split plot based on a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results showed that the highest percentage of seed oil was obtained (37%) in the integrated nutritional system along with the head pruning treatment. The highest grain yields of 53 and 50 g per square meter were obtained in integrated and chemical fertilizing systems, respectively while no pruning was applied. The highest fruit yields of 3,710 and 3,668 kg per hectare were produced by chemical and integrated fertilizing systems, respectively. The biological nutrition system required more time to demonstrate its positive effect on the growth and yield of medicinal pumpkin.

The experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of rhizobium inoculum and phosphorus fertilization on nodulation, growth, and yield of soyabean cv. Binasoybean-2 at the area of Chamberkella, East Subarnachar Upazila, Noakhali, Bangladesh, from mid-January to first week of May 2018. Four levels of Rhizobium inoculation viz: 0, 25, 50 and 75 g kg-1 and four levels of phosphorus viz: 0, 18, 36 and 54 kg P ha-1 were applied. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The effect of interaction of different combinations of Rhizobium inoculation and phosphorus rates showed regular trend, although their effects on some of studied growth, and yield parameters were insignificant but most of the growth and yield parameters were significant. Among sixteen treatment combinations the highest grain yield (2.217 t ha-1) was obtained from the treatment combination of 50 g kg-1 Rhizobium inoculation and 36 kg ha-1 phosphorus which was statistically identical with 50 g kg-1 Rhizobium inoculation with 18 kg ha-1, the lowest yield (1.367 t ha-1) was recorded with control treatment.
