Introduction: Patients’ satisfaction is one of the established yard sticks to measure success of the hospitals. To improve the quality of services, health organizations use patient satisfaction survey to evaluate their processes delivered. A satisfied patient is more likely to develop a deeper and longer lasting relationship with their medical service providers, leading to improved compliance, continuity of care, and ultimately better outcomes. Objectives: To assess the patients satisfaction with services provided and the infrastructure facilities of Border Guard Hospital, Guimara (BGHG), of Khagrachari district Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among the patients who attended the outpatient department of BGHG from January to December 2017. Total 1340 patients aged more than 18 years, irrespective of sex, having no serious complications and willing to participate were selected by convenient sampling. Data were collected by semi-structured questionnaire by face to face interview and analyzed by SPSS 21.0. Results: Out of 1340 respondents 53.7% were serving BGB members, 18.3% were BGB families and 28.0% respondents were local residents. Majority of the patients stated that the general basic facilities at the hospital were adequate. Regarding cleanliness 94.7%, waiting room sitting facilities 91.9%, drinking water availability 88.4%, lighting arrangement 96.7%, ventilation arrangement 88.1% and toilet facilities 91.1% respondents reported that the hospital facilities were adequate. Most of the respondents were satisfied with the quality of professional services by all type of staffs of the hospital. Highest 84.9% of the respondents were satisfied with doctors’ attitude, behavior and cooperation. About other staffs; 72.9% respondents were satisfied with attitude, behavior and cooperation of nurses, 71.9% with pharmacists, 71.1% with registration clerk, 75.3%, with information desk, 70.2% with guards and 73.8% with supporting staffs. Conclusion: Patients attended at BGHG was highly satisfied about the infrastructure and the services provided the hospital. But few percentages of patients expressed their dissatisfaction. Background: To assess the competency of a student different tools are used. Since its introduction in 1975 by Dr. Harden and his team, OSCE has gained tremendous strides to assess the clinical competencies. Since 1975 onward OSCE has been very successfully used to assess the clinical competencies of medical student globally. OSCE is an assessment tool in which student is observed for performance of different tasks at specified stations. In the current study perception of medical students about OSCE examination was done which shall give room for positive criticism and further improvement of the system where ever required. Objective: To expedite view of final year MBBS students of Azra Naheed College about OSCE Material and Method Study design: Quantitative, cross sectional study. Settings: Azra Naheed College, Lahore. Duration: Six months i.e. 1st July2020 to 31st December 2020 Data Collection procedure: After an informed consent and appropriate briefing, the questionnaire was distributed among the final year medical students of Azra Naheed Medical College. Questionnaire developed by Russell et al was used. Results: Out of 148 students who participated in the study, 66(45%) students were females and 82(55%) were male. Majority of the students were satisfied with the quality of the exam. Consensus about the quality of exam was that, 29.7% were aware about the nature of the exam, 52.7% were satisfied that the syllabus taught was asked in the exam, 58.1% were satisfied about the time allocation for each station. Majority i.e. 60% considered OSCE an exam of practical nature which is not biased by gender or ethnicity. More than 50% of the students were satisfied with the standard of the exam. At the same time more than 50% students considered essay exam the easiest format of assessment. However, OSCE was considered to be fairest form of assessment 73%. 68.9% perceived that learning is enhanced by MCQs rather than other formats of assessment. Conclusion: To conclude this study, it is very much clear that the perception of students about OSCE as an assessment tool was very encouraging, as it not only provided them the opportunity to highlight their weaknesses but also helped them to perform well in the exam, manage time during exam and to overcome them stress which influenced their results. Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a multifaceted syndrome comprises a cluster of metabolic abnormalities including hypertension, central obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and is strongly associated with developing diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases. Prevalence of MetS differs in different ethnic population by using different definition. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of the MetS and its component risk factors among Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel working in Chattagram Hill Tract (CHT). Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2016 to February 2018 among 1455 male BGB personnel aged between 40 to 59 years and working in CHT of Bangladesh. Study subjects were selected at BGB hospital, Guimara, Khagrachari. The new International Diabetes Federation (IDF) guidelines were used to identify MetS. Detail history, clinical examination, anthropometry and blood pressure (BP) were measured and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and lipid profile were assessed. Results: Among the 1455 respondents’ BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic BP were found more than normal in 34.1, 37.7, 16.4% and 12.3% respectively. Biochemical parameters including FPG, TC, TG, and LDL-C was raised in 28.7%, 49.8%, 52.2% and 37.7% of respondents respectively. HDL-C was found decreased in 26.9% respondents. Age wise prevalence of MetS for age group 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 55- 59 years were found 21.3%, 21.7%, 24.1% and 26.1% of the respondents respectively. The overall prevalence of MetS was found 22.4%. Conclusion: The prevalence of the MetS in BGB personnel was found 22.4%. Appropriate measure should be taken to lower the MetS cases. Background: Urban health and nutrition day (UHND) serves as a common platform to deliver maternal, child health care, nutrition and WASH services to the urban poor population. This study was formulated with an objective to study the availability of resources at the UHND, to assess the services provided and to determine the satisfaction by the beneficiaries.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in urban slum of Berhampur from November 2016 to January 2017 and 10% of UHND sessions were observed. Data was collected regarding the presence of service providers at the session sites, availability of required equipments and supplies with the help of a semi-structured checklist. In-depth interviews of the service providers and exit interview from the beneficiaries from each session was taken after obtaining their informed consent and analyzed.Results: Out of 21 sessions, ANMs were present at all sessions but AWWs were present only at 61.9% sessions. Examination table, bed screen were not present at any session. Registration of pregnant women & BP measurement was done at 90.5% but abdominal examination of the woman were not performed. Weighing of children and plotting of weight on the card was done in 71.4% and 52.4% sessions respectively. 78.5% clients were satisfied with the quality of services they received.Conclusions: There was inadequate logistics identified in many UHND sessions. Hence strengthening of resources and infrastructure as well as regular supportive supervision is recommended to ensure provision of quality services.

Abstract Aim To evaluate patients' satisfaction with the quality of nursing care and examine factors which affect their decision. Design A retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive survey study. Methods Data were collected using a structured questionnaire in Georgian language was administered to the patients. The response rate was 93% and the final sample was composed of 173 patients who enrolled consequently after taking written informed consent. One hospital and one outpatient department in the capital city of Georgia were selected for the study setting. Data were collected during one month. Data on demography was collected. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied accordingly using STATA version 17. Eligible criteria: Adults, capable of independent communication and who talk Georgian language, did not have any severe process or complications, were in the recovery stage, with no referral and discharging to home. Results Majority of respondents were aged between 56-65 years (50%), males (52.5%), residents of the capital city (70%), having higher education (80%) and employed (75%). Overall, 89% of patients described provided nursing care as an excellent. The most important factors, which affect patients' satisfaction are the waiting time before admission, safety of services, comfortable environment along with the proper level of care and attentiveness. These results can be generalized and may be useful in comparative studies of patient satisfaction. Key messages Permanent evaluation of nursing care is important to evaluate patients satisfaction. Factors as waiting time, safety of services, comfortable and friendly environment, and attentiveness are key for high level of satisfaction.

Introduction: Infertility is an increasingly prevalent condition which causes considerable psychological problems among infertile couples. Objective: To assess the psychological state of infertility in terms of depression, anxiety and stress among the infertile couples of Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the fertility centre of Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka from January to July 2018 among purposively selected 112 infertile couple. Data were collected by face to face interview through a pretested semi-structured Bangla questionnaire of Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale and analyzed by computer software SPSS 19.0. Results: Among the 112 infertile couples, depression was found among 54.5%, anxiety among 53.6% and stress in 30.4% of females. Whereas among males depression was found in 38.4%, anxiety 26.8% and stress 21.4%. This study also revealed that couples with primary infertility had more depression, anxiety and stress than others. Conclusion: Females have been psychologically more affected than their husbands due to infertility. More than half of the females had depression and anxiety and about one third was affected by stress which was higher than their husbands. Introduction: The development of anti-RBC antibodies (alloantibodies and/or autoantibodies) can significantly complicate transfusion therapy, particularly in patients needed repeated transfusion. Objectives: To find out the prevalence of alloantibodies and autoantibodies in repeatedly transfused patients so that serious hazards due to immune reaction may be avoided. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in Department of Immunology, BIRDEM and Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) during the period of July 2015 to June 2016. Total 370 patients who had received at least five units of transfusions were enrolled in this study but known patients of auto immune haemolytic anaemia, patients in whom antibody was previously detected and pregnant women were excluded from the study. Blood grouping and Direct Anti-globulin Test (DAT) were performed with cell suspension using a poly-specific Coombs reagent. In cases of a positive DAT, further investigation using specific monoclonal reagents to detect IgG or a complement (C3d) was carried out. Serum was used to detect red cell alloantibodies using standard blood bank methods. Antibody identification was performed in antibody screening positive samples using red cell Identicells. Results: Maximum 132 (35.7%) patients were in the age group 1-10 years. The male-female ratio was 1.2:1. Among 370 total patients 290 were HHA and 80 were non-HHA. Antibody was detected in only 17(4.59%) patients. Among the Hereditary Haemolytic Anaemia (HHA) patients it was 11 (3.79%) but among the non-HHA patients it was 6(7.5%). Out of 8 auto-antibodies, 5 were anti IgG followed by 3 were anti C3d. Out of 14 alloantibodies, 4(28.6%) were anti E, 3(21.4%) were anti K and in 3(21.4%) cases specificity of alloantibody was not detected. Conclusion: Prevalence of anti-RBC antibodies was not so uncommon in multiple transfused patients. Journal of Armed Forces Medical College Bangladesh Vol.14(1) 2018: 73-77

Background: For accelerating its progress towards FP2020 goals, the Government of India has focused on improving the quality of intrauterine device (IUD) services. EngenderHealth has supported the Governments of Rajasthan and Gujarat since 2014 through its Expanding Access to IUD Services in India (EAISI) project by building the capacity of service providers, monitoring their compliance with standard practices, and strengthening health systems. This study sought to assess whether EAISI trained providers provide a better quality of IUD services as compared to non-EAISI trained providers, as indicated by a reduction in confirmed IUD complications? Methods: This study was an analytical cross-sectional study of secondary data collected from the follow-up registers of 176 intervention facilities (138 in Rajasthan and 38 in Gujarat) during Phase I of EAISI project. The analysis included clients who returned between April 2018 and March 2019 to the same facility for a follow-up visit. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to determine factors associated with IUD complications. Results: A total of 56,733 IUD insertions were conducted, and 10,747 (18.9%) client follow-ups were documented. Of these, 49.4% (N=5,305) clients received IUDs from EAISI-trained providers, while 50.6% (N=5,442) received IUDs from non-EAISI trained providers. A total of 4.0% (N=432) of clients experienced complications (Expulsion: 1.3%, Missing Strings: 1.7%, Infection: 1.1%). Clients who received IUDs from non-EAISI-trained providers were 55.5% more likely [95% CI (26.2%, 91.5%), p<0.0005] to have complications compared to clients who received insertions from EAISI-trained providers. Other significant factors include the type of IUD, timing of the follow-up visit and timing of the insertion. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that intensive, hands-on training of providers to improve clinical skills for IUD insertions can have a positive impact on the reduction of post-insertion complications.

Introduction: MRI investigation indicates sensitivity as well as specificity. The increasing clinical utility, coupled with the greater availability and capacity to per¬form, has resulted in a dramatic increase in their use over the past de¬cades. The expectation of the care seekers has also increased and it is a major concern whether this increase in MRI result has improved patient outcomes or not. Objective: The study was carried out with the aim to evaluate various aspects of satisfaction among the MRI performing patients at Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross sectional study was carried out on patient satisfaction of MRI services at CMH, Dhaka. A total of 186 patients performing investigation at MRI Department of CMH Dhaka since 01st May 2011 to 15th May 2011 were interviewed. Data were collected and analysed by face-to-face interview and reviewing medical record with the help of a questionnaire and checklist. Results: The waiting time of 8-12 weeks for MRI was maximum among 24.7% patients; followed by 17.7% for 2-4 weeks and 16.1% for 1-2 weeks. It also revealed that waiting time was higher (8-12 weeks) in Neurosurgery referred cases (33.3%), Orthopaedic (28.2%) followed by Neurology (14.3%) (p<0.05). The outdoor patients experienced more waiting time in comparison to indoor patients. Orthopaedic referred cases had the highest (53.8%) positive finding followed by Neurosurgery (15.1%) and Medicine (7.5%). A significant majority of the patients are satisfied (68.81%) or very satisfied (25.80%) with the MRI service. Conclusion: This study finding will help the hospital administrator not only in monitoring the investigation but also to take measures to improve the facilities of MRI department. Introduction: Writing or composing has been seen an issue to several of undergraduates students, composing has been the most difficult micro skill of all times. Feedback plays an essential part in composing process. Considering the issues in composing classes, the point of this study was to see at a planning procedure through which language learners can make self-confidence, be impelled, advance the quality of publication, secure communications through composing and taking after feedbacks. Objective: To investigate the purpose of students’ attitude towards peer-feedback and facilitator feedback. Materials and Methods: Study design: Quantitative cross sectional Settings: Azra Naheed Medical College Duration: Six months i.e. 1st January 2021 to 30th June 2021 Methodology: This is quantitative cross sectional study conducted in the medical undergraduate’s students at Azra Naheed medical college Lahore. Total participants were 200 selected after taking the informed consent. Students have an idea of giving and receiving feedback. A validated questionnaire was circulated to elicit students thought about the effectiveness regarding feedback in academics. The data was entered an analyzed using SPSS version 23. Results: Results revealed maximum students showed positive attitude. As collectively 3% students are strongly disagree, 14% are disagree, 17.5% are neutral, 38% are agree and 17.5% are strongly agree. Conclusion: The main issue in this study was to explore participants state of mind towards peer and teacher-feedback. This study showed that medical students showed positive attitude towards giving and receiving peer feedback. Most of the participants may consider that facilitators composed observations have fruitful technique to move forward the quality of their writing. Likely since they acknowledged that facilitators had more data. Consequently, this study help the participants to think fundamentally rather than living in anxiety and it has been only due to the facilitator’s feedback. The aim of the present study was to appraise prime dependent variables of ophthalmic patients’ satisfaction in a Nigerian public eye care facility with a view to boosting service uptake. It was a cross sectional study conducted between March and May 2012 in our centre. Consecutive clinic patients (n=251) that met study’s criteria were recruited. The patients filled interviewer-administered structured questionnaires. A total of 251 patients were analyzed comprising 139 males (55.4%) and 112 females (44.6%). Male:female ratio=1:0.8. The ages of the patients studied ranged from 17 to 92 years with a mean of 37.2 years±15.57. Bivariate analysis, validated by multiple logistic regression, showed P values of 0.021, 0.008, 0.036, 0.008 and 0.004 for privacy, comfort during eye exam, fairness (non-partiality), thoroughness of examination and expectation, respectively. Satisfaction with overall quality of services was 80.1%. The services of any eye facility should be patient-driven to attain desired goals; therefore the identified areas of patients’ dissatisfaction should be addressed for effective service uptake.
