The effect of stocking density on growth performance and survival rate of endangered Labeo bata, was conducted in nursery ponds from 14th June to 13th August, 2013. Three different stocking densities viz. 500, 600 and 700 piece-1 decimal were assigned as treatment T1, T2 and T3, respectively. The initial average weight of L. bata was 0.15±008 g. Hatchlings in all the nursery ponds were fed indigenous feed (26.95% crude protein) for 8 weeks. Temperature, ammonia nitrogen, pH had no significant differences (P<0.05). Final weight (g) was found to be the highest (4.06±0.06) in T1 and the lowest (3.20±0.03) in T3. The mean values of weight gain (g) was the highest (3.91±0.06) in T1 and the lowest (3.05±0.03) in T3. SGR was highest (5.49±0.02) in T1 and lowest (5.09±0.02) in T3. Yet again, survival rate was highest (70.33±0.88) in T1 where stocking density was the lowest among those aforementioned three treatments and lowest (61.00±0.58) in T3 where the stocking density was the highest among the treatments. And finally production (kg-1ha) was found highest (352.66±4.42) in T1 and lowest (337.50±3.19) in T3. Rearing of the Labeo bata fry in those three different stocking densities showed significant (p<0.05) variation both in highest survival and growth performance. Overall production of L. bata in treatment T1 was significantly higher than that of the other two treatments T2 and T3. The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of seasonal variation on growth performance of Cyprinus carpio fry in six earthen ponds during December 2011 to June 2012 covering winter (WS) and summer season (SS). Stocking density was 6250 per decimal with a mean weight of 0.192±0.002 (g). This study was done with three replications for each season. During the WS, the mean values of water parameters were temperature 16.78±2.17, transparency 32.67±1.9 cm, dissolved oxygen 5.88±2.18 mg/l, pH 8.24±0.49, total alkalinity 184.72±22.72, and ammonia nitrogen 0.21±0.05 whereas the mean value of water parameters in SS were temperature 30.56±1.51, transparency 30.61±1.71cm, dissolved oxygen 4.3±1.37 mg/l, pH 8.33±0.24, total alkalinity 274.95±6.73 mg/l, and ammonia nitrogen 0.16±0.05 mg/l. Mean values of survival and specific growth rates were 58.94±0.95 and 2.45±0.03 in WS and 67.85±4.27 and 4.00±1.03, in SS  respectively. Mean gross and net productions in WS were 1581.94±71.55 kg ha-1 60 d-1 and 1285.03±69.84 kg ha-1 60 d-1 and, 4262.74±147.81 kg ha-1 60 d-1 and 3964.74±145.74 kg ha-1 60 d-1, in SS respectively. As a result of climate change, aquaculturists are seeking adaptive culture techniques for sustainable aquaculture. In this case, cage culture is a suitable technique that can mitigate the challenge of climate change, but due to the lack of knowledge of proper stocking density, often productions are not satisfactory. Therefore, the experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of stocking density on growth and production of an endangered minor carp bata (Labeo bata) in cages for a period of 120 days in Padma River, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. On an average initial weight of bata fingerling of 5 g was stoked in cages under three treatments each with containing three replications using three different stocking densities (106, 71 and 35 fingerling/m3 for T1, T2 and T3, respectively). Supplementary feed (3% per body weight) was given to the cultured species twice in a day. The mean values of water temperature, transparency, pH and dissolved oxygen were in suitable range throughout the experimental period. Significantly (p<0.05) highest mean gross weight (85.82±0.70 g), specific growth rate (2.37± 0.02%), survival rate (83± 3.00%) and food conversion ratio (2.27± 0.03) was found in T3 rather than T2 and T1. The net production in terms of biomass (18.23±2.43 kg/cage) was significantly (p<0.05) higher in T2.The study suggests that, treatment T2 (71 fingerling /m3) as the optimum stocking density to produce maximum production by cage culture of Labeo bata.

The present study was conducted on seasonal abundance of phytoplankton of prawn based carp polyculture system fishponds for a period of six months from September 2006 to February in the village Meherchandi of Boalia thana under Rajshahi district of Bangladesh. During the study period, it was found that water temperature varied from 16.59°C (T2) to 29.82 (T1), transparency 26.72 (T1) to 40.13cm (T2), pH 7.21 (T1) to 8.0 (T2) DO 2.13 (T2) to 3.6mg/l (T2), CO2 4.63 (T1) to 10.63mg/l (T2), NH3N 0.001 (T1) to 0.0197mg/l (T2) and total alkalinity fluctuated from 85.38 (T1) to 147.75mgl (T2). A total four groups of zooplankton were identified where 5 rotifera (38.41%) was dominant followed by 3 cladocera (31.49%), 2 copepoda (21.84%) and crustacean larvae (8.26%). It was also found that zooplankton showed abundance in February. The highest total average zooplankton (18390.79±2144.63 cells/l) was recorded in T1 than T2 which might be due to the effective uses by high stocking density of fishes. Zooplankton showed positive correlation with pH, DO, CO2 and alkalinity in T1. In case of T2, positive co-relationship was found with pH, DO, CO2 and NH3-N. The mean values of highest final weight of M. rosenbergii, H. molitrix and C. catla were 89.20±8.62g (T1), 682.70±44.20g (T2) and 428.00±4.50g (T1) respectively, highest survival rate was found 76.25±6.25% (T1) of prawn and highest total average yield was obtained 940.65±259.43 kg/ha in T2 due to high stocking densities of prawn. This study was aim to determine the different pellet feed source on the growth and survival rate of Nile tilapia. The purpose of this research was to provide information of the best feed for the growth and survival rate of Nile tilapia.Completely Randomized Design, with 3 treatments ( treatment A: community-made pellet, treatment B: commercial pellet PF500; treatment C: commercial pellet 885) and 3 replicate was used for the research. Nile tilapia with 3-4 cm length placed in nine aquariums with stocking density 6 fishes/L. Feeding treatment given twice a day at level 3 %/ body weight.  The parameters observed include growth rates, survival, and feed conversion. Supporting data was observed for water quality. Observation was carried out for 30 days.The results showed that the average weight, in treatment A was 101,66 g, treatment B was 118.33 g, and treatment C was 128.33 g. The average yield of relative growth in treatment A was 111.44%, treatment B was 134.23%, and treatment C was 135.76%. Treatment C shows the highest value, then treatment B and treatment A. The average yield of feed conversion, treatment A was 1.11; treatment B 3.21; and treatment C was 3.37. Survival rate of all treatments was 100%.

Abstract: This research aims to determine the optimum density in closed system transportation of milkfish juvenile. Milkfish juveniles used in the research had an average weight 1.48±0.12 g. The study consisted of several stages, namelydetermining the ability to fast fish, determining the level of oxygen consumption, determining the rate of excretion of total ammonia nitrogen and determining the optimum density in transportation for 48 hours.The treatments were performed differences in the density of 100, 150, 200, and 250 fish/L using polyethylene plastic size 35x50 cm and styrofoam size of 75 × 43 × 40 cm.The results showed the seed fish can survive and swim actively for 7 days without feeding with oxygen consumption rate as much as 2640 mgO2 and TAN excretion rate 0.1200 mg/L. The different treatment of density had an effect on the survival rate of milkfish juvenile. The optimal density for transportation of milkfish juvenile size 1.48 ± 0.12 g in a closed transportation system with a time of 48 hours is 150 juvenile/L with a 100% survival rate. At the density 250 juvenile/L, the can be done with a long time of 30 hours and resulted in a survival rate above 99%.  Keyword: Chanos chanos, Density, Transportation closed system, Survival rate, Water Quality Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kepadatan optimal dan lama waktu dalam transportasi sistem tertutup benih ikan bandeng.Benih ikan bandeng yang digunakan memiliki bobot rata-rata 1,48±0,12g. Penelitian terdiri dari beberapa tahap, yaitu penentuan ketahanan ikan tanpa diberi makan, tingkat konsumsi oksigen, laju ekskresi total amoniak nitrogen dan kepadatan optimal benih ikan bandeng dalam transportasi selama 48 jam. Perlakuan yang dilakukan perbedaan kepadatan yaitu 100, 150, 200, dan 250 ekor/L dengan menggunakan plastik polyetylen (PE) ukuran 35x50 cm dan styrofoam ukuran 75×43×40 cm.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan benih ikan bandeng mampu bertahan hidup dan berenang aktif selama 7 hari pemuasaan ikan dengan tingkat konsumsi oksigen sebanyak 2640 mgO2 dan laju ekskresi TAN 0,1200 mg/L.Perlakuan perbedaan kepadataan berpengaruh terhadap kelangsungan hidup benih ikan bandeng.Kepadatan optimal untuk transportasi benih ikan bandeng ukuran 1,48±0,12 g/ekor pada sistem transportasi tertutup selama 48 jam adalah 150 ekor/L dengan tingkat kelangsungan hidup 100%. The aim of this study was to determine reference values of carcinoembryonic antigen and cancer antigen in 32 clinically healthy bitches. The average age of the bitches in each group was as follows: small breeds 3.50 &plusmn; 2.30, medium breeds 3.83 &plusmn; 3.21, large breeds 6.00 &plusmn; 3.22 and giant breeds 2.40 &plusmn; 2.43. The average weight in each group was as follows: 1<sup>st</sup> group 7.94 kg &plusmn; 1.84, 2<sup>nd</sup> group 22.38 kg &plusmn; 2.77, 3<sup>rd</sup> group 35.94 kg &plusmn; 7.16, and 4<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;group 52.75 kg &plusmn; 5.04. The cancer markers were determined using human kits. The mean values of the carcinoembryotic antigen markers &plusmn; SD were as follows: 1<sup>st</sup> group 0.18 &plusmn; 0.03, 2<sup>nd</sup> group 0.20 &plusmn; 0.03, 3<sup>rd</sup> group 0.22 &plusmn; 0.01, 4<sup>th</sup> group 0.18 &plusmn; 0.04. The statistical significance for the carcinoembryonic antigen markers was P = 0.0042**. The values of cancer antigen markers &plusmn; SD were: 4.90 &plusmn; 1.04, 4.80 &plusmn; 1.13, 5.90 &plusmn; 1.22, and 4.72 &plusmn; 0.97, respectively. The cancer antigen values were statistically insignificant (P = 0.1762). Based on obtained values of the mean 95%, we expect a standard for carcinoembryonic antigen of 0.00&ndash;0.23 ng/ml and for cancer antigen 0.0&ndash;7.00 IU/ml. The results of the present study show that it is possible to use human kits for the determination of carcinoembryonic antigen and cancer antigen in clinically healthy bitches using the radioimmunoassay method. &nbsp;

Fulfill needs of Siamese gourami still rely on the catch from nature, so the population in nature has become decreased. The increase of Siamese gourami fish production from culture is still constrained by the survival rate and slow growth rate in the seed phase. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Siamese gourami stocking density on the application of optimum temperature and salinity to growth performance for optimization of production capacity. Application of optimum temperature and salinity refers to the results of previous research, i.e., temperature of 28 °C and salinity 3 ‰. Siamese gourami seed with length of 2.96 ± 0.42 cm and weight of 5.27 ± 0.10 g used in the research. The experimental design used completely randomized design with four treatments, i.e. 1 fish L-1, 2 fish L-1, 3 fish L-1 and 4 fish L-1. The results showed that there were an effect of different stocking density on absolute growth weight and length, survival rate, specific growth rate and productivity. This is shown in the C treatment which growth was 4.95 ± 0.037 g, length 3.51 ± 0.01 cm, survival rate 93.47%, specific growth rate 1.22% and fish productivity of 625.76 g.

120 selected layers (Bovans Goldline hybrid) aged 19 weeks with an average weight of 1 735 g were divided into two balanced groups: control group (Group C) and experimental (Group E). Layers were reared in three-tier cages with automatic watering, manual feeding, and at controlled light and temperature regimens. One cage accommodated two layers, the floor surface area was 0.1125 m<sup>2</sup> per layer. The experiment started after a 20-day adaptation period with layers aged 22 weeks (Week 22) and ended when layers were 68 weeks old (Week 68). In a period of initiation (i.e. Weeks 19–38), layers were fed the complete feeding mixture N1. Then they received the feeding mixture N2 until the end of the experiment. Feeding mixtures in both groups (C and E) had the same composition; the only difference between mixtures was that the feeding mixture in the experimental group was enriched with 1% clinoptilolite (i.e. the commercially available additive ZeoFeed). Layers received feeding mixtures and drinking water <I>ad libitum.</I> In the course of the experimental period, control layers laid 16 289 eggs while experimental layers laid 16 474 eggs. It follows from the results that the laying intensity in experimental layers was 1.7% higher as compared to control layers, i.e. the number of laid eggs in experimental layers increased by 5.6 eggs per layer. The mean weight of all laid eggs was 66.3 ± 6.25 g in the control group and 65.6 ± 5.44 g in the experimental group (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.01). Such performance was achieved at the consumption of feeding mixture being 141.7 g per laid egg in the control group and 137.6 g per laid egg in the experimental group. The consumption of feeding mixture in the experimental group was 4.1 g lower than that in the control group. The mean values of parameters monitored in blood plasma such as uric acid, cholesterol, glucose, lactose, calcium, phosphorus, ALP, and LDH in both groups of layers ranged within reference intervals, with no significant differences being detected between both groups.However, statistically significant differences between both groups were found in total plasma protein (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.01), triacylglycerol levels (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.05), and magnesium (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.01), which were elevated in the control group, and in AST (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.05) whose level in the control group was significantly lower than that in the experimental group. The results of haematological tests performed with layers’ blood revealed statistically significant changes in parameters such as the erythrocyte count (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.01), haemoglobin level (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.01), and MCHC (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.05), which were elevated in the experimental group, and in the leukocyte count (<I>P</I> ≤ 0.05), which was lower in the experimental group, as compared with the control. However, the values found varied within physiological ranges.

Background. Lowland Bamboo (O. abyssinica) is an indigenous multipurpose species in Ethiopia and endemic to Africa.Aims. The present study was aimed at investigating provenance variation on early survival rate and growth performance ofO. abyssinicaseedlings so as to obtain suitable provenance for production of high quality seedlings.Methods. Seeds were collected from Pawe and Sherkole districts. Following raise of seedlings data on survival count, culm height, root collar diameter (RCD), number of leaves, and biomass were recorded.Results. Pawe provenance had slightly higher survival rate (91%). Except seedlings RCD, rhizomes length, and roots fresh and dry weights, higher mean values of other morphological parameters were recorded in Sherkole provenance. Biomass of leaves and culms was higher in Shekole provenance, while root biomass was exceeded by the Pawe provenance. However, significant variations (P<0.05) between provenances were observed in RCD, rhizomes length, weight of fresh culms, and fresh and dry root system. Seedlings growth parameters (height and RCD) were positively and significantly correlated with Biomass variables and hence could be considered as better evaluation criteria for seedling quality at green house.Conclusion. Sherkole provenance should be considered for raisingO. abyssinicaseedlings at green house.
