The study was conducted to determine the efficacy of Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum ) leaves extract as a growth promoter in broiler. Thirty (30) day-old broiler chicks were purchased from Kazi hatchery and after seven days of acclimatization in the poultry shed of Pharmacology department randomly divided into two groups I0 and I1. No vaccination schedule was practiced and no antibiotics were added in rations. Group was supplemented with Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) leaves extract @ 2ml/litre in drinking water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain upto 5th weeks and blood test was performed at 17th and 35th day’s age of broiler to observe the hematological changes between control (Group) and treatment (Group) group. The treatment group (Group A) recorded statistically non- significant for live body weight at 1st and 2nd weeks than that of control group (Group B) but found statistically significant at 3rd (p<0.01), 4th (P<0.05) and 5th (P<0.01) weeks of age and the Hematological parameters (TEC, PCV, Hb and ESR) showed statistically significant (p<0.01) difference as compared to control group.Res. This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) leaves extract as a growth promoter in broilers from January to June 2013 under Dept. of Pharmacology, Bangladesh agricultural University, Mymensingh-2022, Bangladesh. Fourty number of day old broiler chicks were taken and after seven days divided into two groups A and B. The B group was supplemented with tulsi leaves extract @ 1ml/litre in drinking water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 5th weeks and blood test was performed at 17th and 35th days age of broiler to study hematological changes between control A and treatment B group. No significant difference in hematological changes was observed in both treatment and control group in 1st week of age but significant change in body weight gain was observed on 35th day. They are 1500 g (control) and 1650 g (treated). The cost of production and economic study was carried out and it was observed that net profit in control group was 5.33 T.K/Kg broiler and in treatment group was 13.33 T.K/Kg broiler. Bacterial sensitivity test was positive in case of Escherichia coli and produced zone of inhibition 0.5 cm and other was negative.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. June 2017, 3(2): 226-232

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of garlic (Allium sativum) extracts supplementation in drinking water as a growth promoter of broiler chicken. A total of 60 one-day-old male Lohman meat broiler chicks were distributed over two groups of 30 chicks with three replicates of 10 birds. Group B was supplemented with garlic extract from water and Group A kept as a control. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 4th weeks and hematological tests were performed at 30th days. Live weight and weight gain of the treatment group were significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of the control group. Significant (p<0.05) higher values also observed in terms of weight of heart, liver, spleen, and pancreas for the treatment group. The value of TEC and PVC of treatment group showed significant (p<0.05) differences. The results suggest that better growth performance could be achieved in broilers with feed supplemented with garlic extract.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. September 2017, 3(3): 317-322

The study was conducted to determine the efficacy of aqueous extract of Neem leaves against colibacillosis and as a growth promoter in broilers. A total of 40 commercial day-old broiler chicks were randomly divided into four equal groups; viz. A, B, C and D. Group A was kept as non-treated control, Group B  and C was treated with 1% Neem leaves in drinking water for six weeks,  and colibacillosis was induced at 2nd week in group C and  D. In group D, Neem leaves treatment continued from 2nd to 6th week after the colibacillosis induction to compare its antibacterial efficacy to prophylactic effect. Escherichia coli induction rate was 200µl per bird where 1 ml contains approximately 1X106 CFU (Colony Forming Unit). Data were recorded for live body weight, weekly gain in weight and hematological parameters of birds for six weeks. Clinical examination and antibacterial sensitivity studies  suggests administration of aqueous extract of Neem leaves significantly (p<0.001) improved body weight gain in the Neem treated groups but did not prevent E. coli induced colibacillosis in broilers.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjas.v43i2.20715 Bang. This experiment was conducted to investigate the efficacy of tulsi leaves (Ocimum sanctum) extract supplementation in drinking water as a growth promoter in broiler chickens. A total No. of 30 day old Cobb-500 broiler chicks was purchased from local hatchery and after seven days of acclimatization chicks were randomly divided into two groups A and B in equal number. The group A was kept as a control and not treated. The group B was supplemented with tulsi leaves extract with feed and water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 30 days and hematological tests were performed at 30th day’s age of broiler to evaluate the hematological changes between two groups. The initial body weight of groups A and B on 1st day of this experiment were 42.80±10.31 gm and 42.68±6.90 gm respectively and after 30th days of experiment final body weight were 1530± 33.07 gm and 1600± 44.80 gm respectively; the net body weight gain from 7th day were 1488±41.12 gm and 1551±39.29 gm respectively and economics of production was analyzed and found that net profit per broiler was Tk. 24.51 and Tk. 32.50 respectively. The treatment group B was reported statistically significant (at 1% level) increased 16.43% for live body weight than the control group A. The hematological parameters TEC, ESR and PCV value of treatment group showed significant difference, while Hemoglobin (Hb) estimation did not show significant difference from control group. Therefore, the findings of the study results suggest that supplemented with tulsi leaves extract with feed and water can improve the growth performance of broiler.

The efficacy of tulsi (Ocimum sactum) and neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves extract as a growth promoter were studied in broiler. A total of 40 day-old broiler chicks were purchased from Kazi hatchery and after three days of acclimatization the chicks were randomly divided into four groups (n=10). No vaccination schedule was practiced and no antibiotic was added in ration of group A, B, C, and D respectively. Group A served control without any supplements while group B, C and D were supplemented with combination of tulsi and neem extract @ 1 ml, 2ml and 3 ml/liter of drinking water. Live body weight gain was recorded weekly up to 6th weeks and hematological studies were performed at 21st and 42nd day of experiments. At the end of 42nd day of experiment final body weight of group A, B, C and D were 1561± 12.10 g, 1698± 12.87 g, 1608± 12.04 g and 1763± 13.28 g, respectively. The birds of group D utilized their feed more efficiently among the treatment groups (p<0.05). The net body weight gain were, 1533± 11.98 g, 1443± 11.32 g and 1588± 12.10 g in treated groups compared to control group (1393± 11.07 g ) and total net profit per broiler was 19.08, 40.10, 20.68 and 45.07 Taka , respectively. Hematological parameterss (TEC, PCV, Hb and ESR) were not significantly changed among the treated and control group suggesting no side effects of herbal extracts in broiler. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of papaya leaf (Carica papaya) and kalo jeera (Nigella sativa) seeds powdered supplementation in drinking water as a growth promoter in broiler chickens. A total of 20 Cobb-500 broiler chicks (day-old) were purchased from local hatchery (Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Ltd.) and after seven days of acclimatization chicks were randomly divided into two groups, A (n=10) and B (n=10). The group A was kept as a control and not treated. The group B was supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera powder with feed and water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 5th weeks and hematological tests were performed at 35th day’s age of broiler to search for hematological changes between control (A) and treatment (B) groups. The initial body weight of groups A and B on 1st were 41.00±0.56 gm and 41.50±0.35 gm, respectively and after 35th day of experiment final body weight were 1470±57.35 gm and 1720±58.56 gm, respectively and economics of production were analyzed and found that net profit per broiler was Tk. 8.91 and Tk. 20.69, respectively. The treatment group B was recorded statistically significant (at 1% level) increased (17.00%) for live body weight than that of control group A. The hematological parameters total erythrocyte count (TEC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hemoglobin (Hb) estimation value of treatment group shows significant difference, while hemoglobin estimation does not show significant difference from control group. The results suggest that better growth performance could be achieved in broilers supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera seeds.

The initial body weight of groups A and B on 1st day of this experiment were 41.00±1.78 gm and 41.50±2.35 gm, respectively and after 35th day of experiment final body weight were 1640± 74.83 gm and 1920± 33.91 gm, respectively and economics of production were analyzed and found that net profit per broiler was Tk. 21.46 and Tk. 32.29, respectively. The treatment group B was recorded statistically significant (at 1% level) increased (16.97%) for live body weight than that of control group A. The hematological parameters total erythrocyte count (TEC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), packed cell volume (PCV) and hemoglobin (Hb) estimation value of treatment group shows significant difference, while hemoglobin (Hb) estimation does not show significant difference from control group. The results suggest that better growth performance could be achieved in broilers supplemented with tulsi leaf extract.

This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of tulsi (Vitex negundo) leaves, black pepper (Piper nigrum) and cloves (Curcuma longa) extract (TBC extract) as a growth promoter in broilers. A total of 20 day-old broiler chicks were purchased from Nourish Hatchery and after seven days of acclimatization the chicks were randomly divided into two equal groups A and B. No vaccination schedule was practiced and no antibiotics were added in ration of either group A or group B. Group A served as control without any supplement while group B was supplemented with TBC extract @ 1ml/litre in drinking water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain upto 6th weeks and blood tests were performed at 21st and 42nd day to find out hematological changes between control A and treatment B group. The food conversion ratio (FCR) in group A was 1.94 while that in group B was 1.87.  The result suggests that TBC extract played a vital role in gaining body weight in the treatment group B which gained significantly (p <0.01) higher body weight (1660±32.80 gm) in comparison to control group A (1550±21.20 gm). For the hematological parameters (TEC, PCV, Hb and ESR) no significant change was observed between treatment A and control B group suggesting no side effects of herbal extracts in broiler. The objectives of the study were to investigate the effects of feeding probiotics supplemented diets with or without antibiotic growth promoter on growth performance, carcass characteristics and cost-effectiveness of commercial broilers. A gable type open sided house was used for experimental purpose. Three hundred twenty Cobb-500 one- day-old straight run chicks were randomly distributed into four dietary groups having five replications. The number of birds in each replication was 16. Four diets were considered: diet 1: control; diet 2: antibiotic growth promoter (AGP) at a dose of 15g/100kg; diet 3: probiotics (PB) at a dose of 250g/100kg and diet 4: AGP plus PB (15g/100kg+250g/100kg). Birds were vaccinated against common viral diseases as a part of disease prevention program. The records were kept of body weight, feed intake and mortality while weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and survivability were calculated. Both performance and carcass yield were statistically analyzed for interpretation. Broiler chicks that received PB showed significant improvement in performance (P<0.01) over control with respect to body weight gain, FCR, carcass yield and cost-effectiveness. Feeding AGP alone had comparatively less weight gain, net profit and almost similar feed efficiency compared with PB and AGP+PB groups but its performance was much better than that of control group. The PB fed group showed better meat yield traits. The PB alone group was also more cost effective over control. Feeding PB may be practiced in broiler diet as an alternative to AGP. Asian J. Med. This study was conducted under the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology to determine the effects of Neem and Nishyinda leaves supplementation on growth performance and GUT biosis in broilers. A total of 40 day old broiler chicks were divided into four groups A, B, C and D. Group A was considered as control, fed only with commercial broiler ration. Group B supplemented with formulation of 2 gm grinded Neem leaves, Group C with 2 gm grinded Nishyinda leaves and Group D with 1 gm grinded Neem leaves plus 1 gm grinded Nishyinda leaves per liter of water respectively. Observations were recorded for live body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency, hemato-biochemical parameters and GUT biosis specially the parasite of birds in six weeks. Body weights were increased significantly (p<0.05) in all treated groups in respect to the control and highest was recorded in combine Neem plus Nishyinda supplemented groups (Group D). No significant (p>0.05) differences were observed among the groups for PCV and TEC values. Hb content increased and ESR decreased significantly (p<0.05) with combine Neem plus Nishyinda supplemented group (Group D). The serum SGOT and SGPT levels were also decreased with the same kind of supplementation. In treatment group there was significantly decreased of parasitic eggs, but in case of control group no decrease of parasitic eggs. There was no significant pathological change in any internal organs of the broiler of treated groups. Best result was found in the group D. The present study reveals that combine supplementation of Neem plus Nishyinda gives better result over other groups in respect to body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, hemato-biochemical parameter and profitability without making any health hazard of the broilers.
