Background: Readymade Garment (RMG) was the key source of earning foreign currencies and had been playing a vital role in creating employment opportunity for the rural marginal people since long. This study explored the work related quality of life of female garment workers. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted during July 2016 to June 2017 and data were collected from 400 female garment workers through face to face interview by using a semi-structured questionnaire. Results: The average age of the garment workers was 23.09 years. Most (86%) of the workers had some level of education and only 14% had no formal education. The workers’ minimum and maximum monthly income was BDT 8500 and BDT 33500 respectively. Most of them agreed that they had good infrastructure, sanitation and safety facilities in the work place. All the workers (100%) were satisfied with job facilities and majority (72%) had a clear understanding about goals and aims to do their job at workplace. The workers also had positive impression about the issues related to job satisfaction and working condition. The study also discussed about the sexual issues. 6%, 7% and 9% of the female workers agreed respectively that they were sexually abused in the job, by the co-workers and by the supervisors. Most of the workers agreed to the statement that this job helped them to maintain a good quality of life and they were more respected in the family and society. Educational status, monthly income, infrastructure, sanitation and health safety facilities were statistically significant with the work related quality of life (p = <0.05). Conclusion: The study recommended improving workplace health facilities, needing based health care services, effective safety measures, providing periodic training programs, long term work provision and incentives for good work and opportunity for promotion. Abstract Background: In Pakistan there is a dire need to explore the quality of life in infertile males and females and its undesirable psychological outcomes. Thus, the aim of this study was: 1. To compare the QoL of males and females presenting at an infertility centre for treatment, 2. To assess the association of QoL with resilience, depression, and other socio-demographic factors in males and females presenting at an infertility clinic for treatment. Methods: An Analytical Cross-Sectional study was conducted and the study participants were recruited from the Australian Concept Infertility Medical Centre (ACIMC), Karachi, Pakistan. The non-probability (purposive) sampling strategy was used to recruit the participants. The sample size was 668. Data was analysed using STATA version 12. Results: After adjusting for the covariates we observed that the males who were less resilient their QoL was 8.47 units significantly lower and those who were depressed their QoL was 17.849 units significantly lower as compared to those who were more resilient and less depressed. Moreover, formal education, low monthly income, and friends were significantly associated with QoL among males . On the other hand, females who were less resilient their QoL was 8.606 units lower and those who were depressed their QoL was 19.387 units significantly lower as compared to those who were more resilient and less depressed. Additionally, formal education and low monthly income had a significant association with QoL among females. Conclusion: Fertility related QoL of men and women has a significant association with no formal education, number of friends, income, depression and resilience. Therefore, health care professionals in the field of infertility must be adequately trained to respond to the needs of individuals going through these psychological problems.

Malaysia aims to be one of the developed nations by year 2020; therefore, it is crucial to gauge the quality of working life in a parallel manner using a well-established Work-Related Quality of Life (WRQoL) Scale. The goal of this study is to describe the validity and psychometric properties of the Malay WRQoL Scale in Malaysian population.<br />A total of 572 respondents took part in this cross-sectional study giving a 97% response rate. The reliability of the Malay WRQoL Scale was assessed using the test retest reliability analysis after a 2-week period. Both the interclass correlation (ICC) and Cronbach’s alpha were within acceptable levels. However in the validity analysis, the exploratory factor analysis only revealed 5 factors instead of 6 in the original scale.<br />The Malay WRQoL scale has demonstrated to have the appropriate psychometric properties and can therefore be used in Malaysia to assess the quality of working life.

Abstract Background In Pakistan there is a dire need to explore the quality of life in infertile males and females and its undesirable psychological outcomes. This, study aimed to compare the quality of life (QoL) of males and females visiting an infertility centre for treatment and to assess its association with resilience, depression, and other socio-demographic factors. Methods An Analytical Cross-Sectional study was conducted amongst infertile males and females at the Australian Concept Infertility Medical Centre (ACIMC), Karachi, Pakistan. The non-probability (purposive) sampling strategy was used to recruit the participants. The sample size was 668. Data was analysed using STATA version 12. FertiQoL tool, Beck II Depression Inventory Tool and Resilience Scale 14 (RS-14) were used for assessing the quality of life, depression and resilience respectively of infertile patients. Results Total 668 infertile patients, 334 males and 334 females participated in the study. The mean age was 35.53 ± 6.72, among males, and 30.87 ± 6.12 among females. The mean resilience scores were significantly higher among males, (77.64 ± 8.56), as compared to females (76.19 ± 8.69) (95% CI; − 2.757, − 0.1347). However, a significantly higher proportion of females were depressed (13.8%) as compared to males (6%). The mean QoL scores for the general health domain, emotional domain, mind and body domain, and relational domain, and the total QoL were significantly higher in males as compared to females (p value< 0.001); however, QoL for the social domain was not significantly different in both the groups. On multivariable linear regression resilience and depression among males had a significant association with QoL, after adjusting for the covariates educational status, monthly income, and number of friends. Similar association was observed among females after adjusting for the covariate monthly income only. Conclusion Fertility related QoL of men and women has a significant association with no formal education, number of friends, income, depression and resilience. Therefore, health care professionals in the field of infertility must be adequately trained to respond to the needs of individuals going through these psychological problems.

Objective. This study is aimed at exploring the relationship between the work-related quality of life and job satisfaction among Iranian occupational therapists. Methods. In an analytical-descriptive, cross-sectional study, 322 occupational therapists were recruited through a convenient sampling. Inclusion criteria consisted of age between 22 and 50 years, at least one-year work experience, 24 hours of working per week as an occupational therapist, and membership of Iranian Occupation Therapy Association. After signing the informed consent and completing demographic information, each participant completed the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire- Short Form (MSQ-SF) and work-related quality of life scale. Results. The highest quality of working life belonged to occupational therapists who were female, married, with an annual salary of more than 40000$ (compared to below 20000 $), and those with work experience between 5 and 12 years. There was a positive and significant relationship between work-related quality of life and job satisfaction. Work-related quality of life scores could significantly predict MSQ-SF scores ( β 1 = 0.54 , p < .001 ). Conclusions. The significantly positive relationship between work-related quality of life and job satisfaction suggests the importance of organizational programs for enhancing factors of work-related quality of life in order to improve job satisfaction and quality of life among Iranian occupational therapists.

Objectives: Self-reported vision-related quality of life (VRQOL) allows us to assess the effect of disease and treatments from the patient’s perspective, focusing on an individual’s subjective satisfaction and functional ability. The previous studies mostly focused on the impact of visual function deficits on VRQOL in patients with visual impairment. This study seeks to investigate the influence of sociodemographic characteristics on VRQOL in visually impaired patients. Material and Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study included consecutive adult patients with visual impairment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital eye clinic. All patients had presenting visual acuity worse than 6/18 in the better eye. VRQOL was assessed by the validated English version 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire. Sociodemographic characteristics and ocular parameters were recorded. Sociodemographic characteristics were evaluated based on age, sex, area of residence, marital status, religion, educational attainment, and monthly income. Each characteristic was stratified into groups or levels. Analysis of variance, including post hoc analysis was used to evaluate the association between sociodemographic characteristics and VRQOL. Results: A total of 270 patients were enrolled. After adjustments for category and causes of visual impairment, older age (P < 0.001), rural dwellers (P < 0.001), widowhood (P = 0.006), and no formal education (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with low mean visual function (VF) scores. Similarly, older age (P < 0.001), rural dwellers (P < 0.001), widowhood (P = 0.003), and no formal education (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with low mean QOL scores. The difference in the mean score of VF and QOL by religion, sex, and monthly income was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Besides the degree of visual impairment, the interplay of certain social and demographic factors plays a remarkable role in determining the QOL in visually impaired patients. Therefore, an individualized management plan, including psychosocial therapy is imperative in the care of visually impaired patients.

Abstract Background Nurses are at the forefront of providing health care services and their performance is largely determinant of the quality of health care. The purpose of this study was to investigate associations between professional self-concept and QWL among nurses from selected hospitals based in the cities of Bushehr and Shiraz (southern Iran), at the time of COVD-19 pandemic. Method: This study is designed as a cross-sectional study. A Web-based questionnaire assessing a demographic characteristic, the Work-Related Quality of life (WRQoL), and the Nurse Self-Concept (NSCQ) was distributed to a representative sample (n = 263) of nurses working in hospital wards for patients with COVID-19. Data were analyzed using multivariate linear regression at the significance level of 0.05. Results The mean scores of the NSCQ and the WRQoL Scale in nurses were respectively by 202.32 ± 38.19 and 68.81 ± 19.12. There was also a significantly direct relationship between PSC and QWL. PSC together with work location and working experience could thus explain 34.6% of the variance in QWL, which was 26.5% for PSC. Conclusion Considering the confirmation of the predictive role of nurses’ PSC in their QWL in terms of planning and designing interventions to boost their QWL, attention to internal factors such as PSC is of utmost importance.

Abstract This study assessed the influence of occupational stress on perceived quality of life among clinical nurses in selected hospitals in Nigeria. A cross sectional descriptive research design was adopted while multiple sampling was used to select the respondents from hospitals in Ogun state. Slovin’s formula (n=N/[1+N (e²)]) was used to determine the sample size of 425. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain information from respondents. The analysis was done with SPSS version 25 while descriptive such as tables and bar charts and inferential statistics were used to present the data. Findings revealed that the mean age of the respondents is 36.37±8.90 years and majority of the respondents were between 30-49 years. Almost half of the respondents (48.0%) reported high occupational stress while 44.2% and 7.8% reported low & fair occupational stress respectively. High workload (83.9%), long hours of night shift (71.1%), lack of resources and equipment (67.8%), frequency night shift (67.5%), emotional load of dealing with aggressive and demanding patients (62.6%), poor salary (61.6%), and prolong standing with no time for break (58.5%) are factors responsible for stress among nurses. The results further showed that 52.2% of the respondents reported good work-related quality of life while 38.8% rated their work-related quality of life as poor. The study also showed that there was significant relationship between occupational stress (Organizational issues (P= 0.035), Occupational hazards (P= 0.024), Interpersonal relationships (p= 0.003) and unmet basic physiological needs (P= 0.005)) and work-related quality of life. Conclusion: This study concluded that occupational stress affects nurses’ work-related quality of life negatively and influence patients’ outcomes. Hence, there is an urgent need for development of health promotion programmes on stress reduction and stress management. Keywords: Influence, Occupational Stress, Quality of life, Clinical Nurses.
