Dial indicator is a comparison device usually used in industrial activities, especially in production. To make measurements at this time must be supported by technology that can facilitate operators when using it and when analyzing measurement results. Involving the programme and microcontroller are a solution to developing in roundness measurement, and then the results can be more accurate or thorough between the readable values read from the measuring instrument with the actual value of varying the amount of data. Roundness application is a program that can input measurement data automatically and can do calculations directly. Then, it can display a reference circle, a table that calculates the values of X, Y, R, X’, Y’, R’, Roundness Deviation, Run out Concentricity or a shift in the center point and also the center point shift or Theta. In measuring roundness, the test object is used the Standard Mandrel which has been certified by PT. Global Quality Indonesia, by determining three points or positions, namely in the first position the amount of data is 180, in the second position the amount of data is 90 and in the third position, the amount of data is 60 with a rotating speed of 15 mm/s. The results of the reference circle can be seen in each calculation in each position, in the second position the roundness deviation values are approaching of the Mandrel.

The article presents various methods for determining the strength and plastic properties of the wire to assess the quality characteristics of the products produced in the steel shops of JSC «BMW – the Management Company of the Holding «BMC».The methods of determining the propensity of a thin wire to laminations by reversing the twisting («Swedish» twist) and unilateral twisting, fixing the length change of the sample with a prefix with the dial indicator are considered. The article describes the procedure and results of research to determine the effect of the ratio of the conditional yield strength to the time resistance of the rupture on the plastic properties of the wire, the type of tensile diagram of the wire fragility.

Torsional stiffness is important parameter of chassis that affect the handling performance of chassis. Torsional stiffness can be determined using Finite Element Method (FEM) in early stage design of its. In order to validate the FEM result, experimental work needs to be done. The fixture has been design in simpler stucture, flexible for any kind of chassis and using a simple measurement’s equipment such as dial indicator and load cell. Twist fixture has been designed for measuring of torsional stiffness of TATA cab chassis indirectly. The fixture measured the deflection caused by torsion subjected to the chassis. The torsional stiffness was calculated based on measured displacement of chassis. The result of comparison shows that the experimental results in agreement with the simulation results. Therefore, the simulation results of TATA cab chassis model are valid.

Planarity is one of indispensable attribute of a ceramic tile quality. During the firing changes on curvature may be permanent causing damage on quality and productivity. The objective was to evaluate curvature evolution on porcelain tile during heating stage of firing. Effects of engobe and glaze coating were evaluated. The performance of two compositions of porcelain tile was studied on industrial (1000 mm x 500 mm x 10 mm) and laboratorial (100 mm x 50 mm x 6 mm) scale. Industrial test pieces were fired at 950 and 1200 °C. Final curvature was measured by conventional dial indicator. Curvature evolution of laboratorial test pieces was evaluated by thermal fleximetry from 25 to 1200 °C. This characterization was capable to identify very significant positive curvature deflection on temperature range from 930 to 1200 °C, directly associated to permanent planarity defects. Differences on composition affect significantly the curvature evolution.

Proper shaft-to-shaft alignment during normal machinery operation is essential for improved machinery reliability. Having the proper tools to perform an accurate coupling alignment are critical to maximized maintenance efficiency. Improvements in hardware and software technology have greatly simplified coupling alignment procedures. A comprehensive machine alignment consists of two elements: measurement of the shaft-to-shaft alignment and measurement of the thermal growth and dynamic movement of each bearing housing. Accurate measurement of these elements should be used to position the cold alignment condition in order to properly align the shaft under loaded conditions. Shaft-to-shaft alignment is typically measured using either laser or dial-indicator instrumentation. RoMaDyn used a laser based system utilizing bluetooth technology for shaft alignment readings. This system provides excellent accuracy, flexibility, and fast results. Often if unit casing temperatures change little immediately after a hot coast down, relative shaft to shaft thermal growth measurements can be acquired using laser coupling alignment readings. Hot and cold alignment data can then be incorporated into an alignment drawing to determine measured shaft relative thermal growth. The measured thermal growth readings or OEM calculated growth numbers are then incorporated into the cold unit alignment settings to provide the best hot alignment condition. This paper will discuss a recent case history involving chronic coupling failures at a customer’s facility. Acquired vibration and shaft alignment readings will be discussed. These measurements will illustrate the effects of alignment changes on machinery vibration levels and coupling reliability.

Based on the principle of digital speckle correlation method (DSCM), a distance measuring DSCM system has been developed and realized. With the application of the system, the inverted camber of a pre-stressed beam of beam-slab transfer cadre was traced and analyzed in this paper. Compared with other experimental technique such as dial indicator test method, it shows that DSCM is a powerful optical deformation measurement tool with the required precision and on-site inspection ability.
