In order to utilize a numerical simulation on a product development for electronic equipment, not only the simulation techniques themselves, but the application technologies of the simulation in the product design, were examined. The design process of electronic equipment was categorized into four stages, which were a concept, a function, a layout and a parameter design. Each design stage consists of a specifying that a human decide the specification for the next stage and a verification whether the specification satisfy the previous stage requirements. The specifying and the verification are conducted over and over again. Numerical simulation is corresponded to the verification and is used to accelerate this iteration instead of experiments. The examples of numerical simulation corresponding to these four verifications were shown in the present paper. There are few examples in last two type of simulation. The progress of the numerical technology for function and concept verification is expected. The product development process requires not only numerical simulation based on physics but also statistical approach.

Lighting products are essential for our modern life nowadays, but they also produce high negative impacts on the environment. Although there are tools and methods available for reducing the environmental impact of lighting products, it is a challenging task to integrate them throughout the product development process. To overcome the challenge, this research developed an approach to integrate tools/methods relevant for the eco-design through product development process to reduce the environmental impact of lighting products. Six types of methods, such module design, and 30 tools, such as lifecycle assessment software packages, are considered in the integrated approach. The product specification with eco-constrains is established for implementation at each design stage to ensure the product eco-features. The approach was applied in the development of an LED table lamp which was then assessed in comparison with a benchmark LED lamp regarding environmental lifecycle impact and lighting performance. The comparative assessment results indicate that the LED lamp developed with this approach is much better than the benchmark lamp.

This study aims to describe the validity of E-FIST (Ebook Fisika STEM), namely the STEM physics ebook as e-learning teaching materials on temperature and heat material. The stages of development in this study were limited to the validity of the media, not up to practically and effectiveness trials in learning by students, this was due to the PSBB which was carried out in the prevention of the spread of Covid-19. The ebook was developed by integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This research was developed with the DDD-E model. The stages of the DDD-E model consist of the planning stage (decide), the design stage (design), the development stage (develop), and the assessment stage (evaluate). At the initial stage, namely planning, determining the learning objectives, material, knowledge analysis, and prerequisite skills was carried out so that a draft E-FIST was produced for further evaluation. The next stage is the development stage. After an assessment was carried out at the development stage, three expert lecturers were validated for E-FIST. The aspects that are validated are viewed from the aspects of learning, material, language, and media. The analytical method used is descriptive quantitative analysis. Based on the research results it can be concluded that E-FIST obtains a percentage of validity in terms of aspects of learning, material, language, media suitability with the principles of good learning media, media work processes, and media display respectively were categorized as very good, so that the E-FIST developed was declared very valid and suitable for use in learning. This research implies that it can provide further knowledge for educators regarding the use of ebook technology as the development of teaching materials. Also, further researchers, it can be carried out to test the effectiveness and practically to produce teaching materials that are suitable for use in supporting learning.

Abstract Producing environmentally benign products has now become one of the key challenges of companies across the globe. It can be achieved by utilizing the ecodesign tools in product development process for reducing the environmental impact of products during the design stage itself. Although, the ecodesign tools are available in abundance but there is a lack of studies that can help companies to identify suitable tools. A novel approach has been developed in this study which assists companies to identify and adopt effective ecodesign tools. In this study, three companies related to different product categories are included for testing the proposed approach. Results show that ‘Ecodesign Checklist,’ ‘Material, Energy, Toxicity (MET) Matrix’ and ‘Life Cycle Design Strategy (LiDS) Wheel’ are the three most effective ecodesign tools among the tested tools. Also, it is realized that if these three ecodesign tools are customized and integrated together in a specific sequence then it can be used by the designers, especially novice designers, as an ecodesign methodology. This methodology has the potential to guide designers in the form of a step by step approach during environmentally conscious product development.
