The article reveals specific features of contemporary European social theory within its turn to the nature of creative practices. Different socio-philosophical methods of their cognition are demonstrated. The explication of the character of European social theory as a whole outlines the increasing interest in the formation of a theory of creative society which critically grounds the set of political programmes «Creative Europe». The author defines the concept of the creative turn within a comparative analysis of those theories of contemporary society which explore the peculiarity of social reality constituting on the basis of creative economy. Its practices become a special subject matter of social theory revealing societal limitations of their fulfillment.

The present article concerns with the modern state of things of the conflict resolution specialists’ training in the US universities. The analysis is based on the informational and promotional materials which were picked up from the 11 American universities’ websites. The aim of the analysis was the examination of the four sections, which are: the orientation of the academic program, the content of the program or the scope of the skills, the main methodology of the academic program and the educational technologies. Together with the analysis of the US universities’ academic programs the article provides the comparative analysis of these programs with the Russian academic programs. On the back of this comparative analysis the authors come to the comprehensive conclusion according to which the specialists’ training in the field of the conflict resolution and peacebuilding in the US does not have significant differences from Russian ones and is carried out within one international academic trend in regard to its main features which are: the orientation, content, educational methodology and technologies. The key distinction of the Russian training from the American one is that the Russian academic tradition does have the core subject matter around which the whole academic program is being developed and which is the conflict. This subject matter is being taken in its entirety and the conflict resolution is considered as the closing stage of the conflict studies specialists’ training whereas the academic programs of the US universities embrace the conflict resolution as the subject matter of the academic training and therefores leaves beyond the scope of the training both the theory of the conflict and the forms practice of its manifestation in a number of the programs. The letter is peculiar to both short-term academic programs and the full-time two-year academic programs as it is accepted in the educational space of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, the authors of the article make up the conclusion of the coinciding major educational methodology which guides the academic programs of the American and Russian universities and which is developed on the principles of the interdisciplinarity.

The organization of expert activism is a problem of increasing importance for social movement organizers and scholars alike. Yet the relative invisibility of expert activists within social movements makes them difficult to systematically identify and study. This article offers two related ways forward. First, we advance a theory of “shadow mobilization” to explain the organization of expert activism in the broader context of proliferating risk and intensifying knowledge-based conflict. Second, we introduce a new methodological approach for collecting systematic data on members of this difficult-to-reach population. Findings from comparative analysis of expert activists in the environmental justice movement in Louisiana and the alternative agriculture movement in Washington reveal both important commonalities and fine-grained differences, suggesting that shadow mobilizations are strategic collective responses to cumulative risk in contemporary society.

The purpose of the article is to provide scientific rationale of the place and role of financial leasing in financial and credit support for investment activities of enterprises. The subject matter of the research includes various aspects of the current state of financial leasing and ways of its advancement in Ukraine. The article provides an analysis of investment activities based on the volume of investments in Ukraine and determines the role of financial leasing as a funding for investment resources of enterprises. The paper also examines the legal and regulatory framework for financial leasing operations and highlights different interpretations of this form of financing as well as its formal indicators. An analysis of statistical data on the financial and credit market provides important insights into trends of financial leasing contracts and the volume of loans issued to corporate borrowers, and thus makes it possible to conclude that there is a lack of leasing operations in business activities of entities. The point is mainly supported by the fact that financial leasing contracts which have been made lately are not widespread enough after the crisis in 2014. The dynamics of changes in the volume of leasing contracts by dates of signing is considered, and it is found that there is a tendency to shortening the duration of financial leasing services. An industry factor of providing financial leasing services is taken into consideration and the main industries where these services are widespread are described. The existing approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of leasing contracts are systematized. The key challenges that hinder the growth of leasing in Ukraine are identified. The research methods used in the article include: analysis, synthesis and abstraction (for forming the rationale and developing the terminological and conceptual framework of the study); comparison, systematization and logical generalization (for examining the concept of financial leasing, its legal regulation and specific features of using in Ukraine); statistical, structural and comparative analysis (for exploring ways of advancement of financial leasing in Ukraine).

This article examines a fundamental theoretical aspect of the discourse on ‘intersectionality’ in feminist and anti-racist social theory, namely, the question whether intersecting social divisions including those of sex, gender, race, class and sexuality are interacting but independent entities with autonomous ontological bases or whether they are different dimensions of the same social system that lack separate social ontologies and constitute each other. Based on a historical reconstruction of its genesis, the article frames this as a dispute between system-theoretical and dialectical, ‘Critical Theory’-related approaches and argues that the latter better capture the dynamics of contemporary society, including the perspective of its transcendence.

The resources of sociology do not appear to have been extensively or systematically utilized in the study of social policy and administration. One source of evidence for this statement is the absence of explicit references to sociological theories in some of the most well known general texts on British social policy and administration. Pinker's recent analysis of social theory and social policy also lends support to the view that there has been, and still remains, something of a division between sociologists and students of social policy and administration. He concludes that the ‘founding fathers’ of sociology (Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Spencer) had a tendency to be ‘not greatly interested…(in)…remedies for social problems’, and makes the general observation that ‘sociologists have been oddly diffident about the subject-matter of social administration’, possibly because of the latter's atheoretical nature.

This article is a review of the books by the famous Czech sociologist, head of the Historical Sociology Chair of the Faculty for Humanities at the Charles University (Prague), Jiří Šubrt Historical Processes, Social Changes, and Modernization in the Sociological Perspective (Moscow: RUDN; 2017. 248 p.), Antinomies, Dilemmas, and Discussions in the Contemporary Sociological Thought: Essays on Social Theory (Moscow: RUDN; 2018. 280 p.), and Individualism, Holism and the Central Dilemma of Sociological Theory (Bingley: Emerald Publishig; 2019. 184 p.). All three works focus on the key sociological dilemma - individualism versus holism, which has been the main scientific interest of J. Šubrt in recent years. The relevance of this dilemma is obvious: individualism declares the subjectivity of the person, while holism insists on the objectivity of the supra-individual social reality, and this contradiction hinders the development of theoretical knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary to try to resolve this contradiction, which Šubrt does by critically analyzing the previous attempts to resolve this dilemma and by considering it in the ‘duplex’ perspective that reflects both voluntarist and social principles.

In this study, the ethnic problems which are one of the most significant and perhaps the primary structural difficulties and problems of the nation-state and possible solutions will be suggested. Even if it starts with the general information, the focus of this study would be the subject matter which is known as the Southeastern problem in Turkey, yet it has started to be mentioned as the Kurdish problem in the recent years. This study has the purpose of analyzing the mentioned problem in comparison with the Chinese Problem in Malaysia and determining the advantageous and disadvantageous circumstances in each subsection. Based on those determinations, recommendations will be included regarding which dynamics need to be prioritized in realizing a holistic solution process. The comparison will be conducted in thirteen subsections.

Cultural identity appears to be one of the highest values of contemporary society, accepted as the priority of contemporary and sustainable education. As a result of general globalization the school changes into the multicultural institution. Inasmuch as the topic of textbooks could support the formation of children's socio-cultural identity, the focus of the study would be the analysis of texts in primary school textbooks. The authors of the article studied the textbooks in Estonia and textbooks of neighbourhood countries Finland, Latvia and Czech Republic. The material of textbooks is analyzed on the axis 'your own – another' (supporting the belonging to your own culture vs opened to the international influences). There the analysis is carried out, how much the folklore of one's own nation and other nations is presented in language and music textbooks. The methodology of the study includes content analysis and source analysis. Remarkable differences in the choice of texts in textbooks of different countries will be pointed out as a result. There are countries which textbooks include the texts tending to support the formation of national identity only. Besides with these are the countries which textbooks from the early school years pay attention on the values of cultural diversity and formation of empathy towards other cultures. Comparative analysis of the text choice in textbooks of different countries and publishers leads to unexpected paradoxes of logic of formation of socio-cultural identity in primary school age.
