Brassica seed crops are grown throughout New Zealand and worldwide and intercrop and cropweed contamination through gene flow is a major concern For Brassica large arthropods (body length > 3 mm) particularly honey bees are the most important pollinators and are considered key vectors of pollen Small arthropods (body length < 3 mm) are also abundant in Brassica crops but their role as pollinators is rarely assessed Numerous small arthropods (particularly Diptera and Thysanoptera) were recorded within cages surrounding pak choi inflorescences that excluded large arthropods Inflorescences inside these cages set seed but seed set was significantly reduced compared with inflorescences in cages that were hand pollinated and uncaged inflorescences Although the presence of large arthropods significantly increased seed set the role of small arthropods and wind cannot be excluded in pak choi pollination Further studies are required to fully determine the role of small arthropods in long distance pollen flow

The article investigates the role of communicative-functional approach in the translation of scientific and technical literature, when the translation itself is seen as a tool to accomplish purposeful activity of communicators, representatives of different interlingual groups. In practical terms, the difficulties of translating scientific and technical texts are due to the peculiarities of scientific style, insufficient understanding of the terminology of a particular field of knowledge, which complicates the choice of adequate translation solutions. In this context, an important role is played by the translation strategy, where the communicativefunctional approach dominates. The translation is implicitly included in the communication structure between the author and the recipient. The relevance of the article is determined by the necessity of studying the problems of scientific and technical literature translation, taking into account the current realities of interlanguage information exchange. Key words: communicative-functional approach, interlingual communication, translation, structure

This paper reports part of an ongoing study exploring the information behaviour of New Zealand men during periods of diminished health and wellbeing. Focus groups were used for this iteration of the study. Results indicate that New Zealand men face both personal and structural constraints to their information-seeking during periods when their health and wellbeing may be compromised. This study highlights that service providers need to develop more effective information delivery mechanisms and support services for men. These services need to be appealing to men and reflect men’s information seeking preferences. The role of LIS professionals in supporting this endeavour is discussed.
