This research aims to reveal to what extent the textbooks developed for senior high school students all around Indonesia have provided or developed the materials for vocabulary learning purpose to promote students’ competence in using English for their daily communication. This qualitative content analysis research was conducted with the content analysis research method and was carried out in Yogyakarta Special Territory from 2018 to 2019. The research data were collected and managed with the help of NVivo 11 Plus and NVivo 12 Plus Software. The data were gathered from three English textbooks for Senior High School Students: Bahasa Inggris X, Bahasa Ingris XI, and Bahasa Inggris XII, all of which were specifically developed by the Indonesian Government to be used by all SMA (Senior High School) students all over Indonesia. To achieve reliability agreement level of data, the Kappa Statistics reliability test was used; the result of which was > 0.75 (excellent). The research result shows that the contents of the three textbooks selected for this research in terms of vocabulary-related materials are not consistent; Not all textbooks and not all chapters presented the materials for the students to learn and improve their vocabulary. It is advisable that the English textbooks prepared all SMA students all over Indonesia develop materials or topics particularly the vocabulary consistently.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to reveal the moral values in the narrative texts of English textbooks for senior high school students published by the Ministry of Education and Culture and also the English teachers’ and students’ responses at SMK Triguna Utama, South Tangerang City, related to the topic under investigation. This research used content analysis design. The data sources were the narrative texts in the English textbooks and teachers’ and students’ responses. The data were collected through documentation, interview, and questionnaire. Data analysis procedures consisted of perusing, eliciting, coding, tabulating, interpreting, drawing conclusions and validating. The research found that the English textbooks lacked fables and gave a smaller portion to Indonesian local stories. Moreover, the narrative texts were dominated by the value of kindness, while, fairness was included least explicitly in the stories. These findings were supported by the views and preferences of the teachers and students. Lastly, the teachers and students compactly argued that vocabulary is the greatest barrier to teaching and learning narrative text, and the effectiveness of the school’s atmosphere in instilling moral values still needed further research.   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai moral dalam teks naratif buku teks bahasa Inggris untuk siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas yang diterbitkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan dan juga tanggapan guru dan siswa bahasa Inggris di SMK Triguna Utama, Kota Tangerang Selatan, terkait dengan topik yang diselidiki. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain analisis isi. Sumber datanya adalah teks naratif dalam buku teks bahasa Inggris dan tanggapan guru dan siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi, wawancara dan angket. Sedangkan, prosedur analisis data meliputi pembacaan teks secara cermat, pemilahan data, penyandian, tabulasi, interpretasi, penarikan simpulan dan validasi. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa buku teks bahasa Inggris tersebut masih kekurangan fabel dan cerita lokal Indonesia. Selain itu, teks naratif didominasi oleh nilai kebaikan, sementara nilai keadilan kurang tergambarkan dalam cerita. Temuan ini didukung oleh pandangan dan preferensi para guru dan siswa. Terakhir, para guru dan siswa secara sepakat berpendapat bahwa kosa kata merupakan penghalang terbesar dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran teks naratif, dan efektivitas atmosfer sekolah dalam menanamkan nilai moral masih memerlukan penelitian lebih lanjut.   How to Cite: Setiawan, I., Fahriany. Abstract: This study examined what character education values presented in the English textbook published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic Indonesia for grade 12. This type of this research is a content analysis. The data source of this research is the English textbook for grade 12 SMA/SMK. Fourteen speaking scripts of this textbook were analysed by using content analysis to find what values inserted in it. The finding showed that there were 17 character education values presented in the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris SMA/SMK. It means this textbook is suitable as the materials and guidance for English teachers to teach English and to develop the character education values suggested by the 2013 Curriculum to the students.Keywords: character education values, content analysis, the english texbook, the 2013 curriculumANALISIS NILAI-NILAI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM BUKU TEKS BAHASA INGGRIS UNTUK SISWA KELAS DUA BELAS SMA: BAHASA INGGRIS SMA/SMK Abstrak: Penelitian ini menguji nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter apa yang disajikan dalam buku teks bahasa Inggris yang diterbitkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia untuk kelas 12. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian analisis isi. Sumber data penelitian ini yaitu buku teks bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/SMK kelas 12. Empat belas potongan pembicaraan dari buku teks ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis konten untuk menemukan nilai-nilai apa yang ada di dalamnya. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 17 nilai pendidikan karakter yang disajikan dalam buku teks bahasa Inggris berjudul Bahasa Inggris SMA/SMK. Ini berarti buku teks ini cocok sebagai bahan dan pedoman bagi guru Bahasa Inggris untuk mengajar Bahasa Inggris dan untuk mengembangkan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang disarankan oleh Kurikulum 2013 kepada para siswa.Kata Kunci: nilai pendidikan karakter, analisis konten, buku teks bahasa inggris, kurikulum 2013

This research was aimed at describing students’ ability in writing Sundanese script i.e. consonant, conjunction, vocal, or numbers. This research employed a descriptive method, by using tests and documentation as its technique. The source of this research was 68 Sundanese script texts taken from the result of writing Sundanese script competition for vocational and senior high school students of west java. The result of this research revealed that: first, 99.31%. of the students are able to write consonants. Though, there are 165 mistakes done by students in writing Ja consonant letters. Second, 98.36% of the students are able to write ‘rarangken’, but still, there are 246 mistakes done by students in writing pamaéh ‘rarangken’ letters. Third, 98.08% of the students are able to write vocal. However, there are 39 mistakes done by students in writing “é” vocal letters. Fourth, 91.1%. of the students are able to write numbers, while 127 mistakes of writing the absolute symbol (| |) were still found. The research result revealed that the students of west java vocational and senior high school who are able in writing Sundanese script in Riksa Budaya Sunda 2018 were 63.22% or  43 students out of  68 contestant students.AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan menulis aksara Sunda siswa baik dalam huruf konsonan, ‘rarangken’, vokal, atau angka. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif, dengan menggunakan tekhnik tes dan dokumentasi. Sumber data penelitian ini yaitu teks hasil lomba menulis aksara Sunda siswa SMA/SMK setara se-Jawa Barat, dengan jumlah 68 teks aksara Sunda. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu pertama, kemampuan siswa dalam menulis huruf konsonan dapat dikatakan mampu, dengan persentase 99.31%. Terdapat 165 kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Dengan kesalahan konsonan terdapat dalam huruf ja. Kedua, kemampuan siswa dalam menulis ‘rarangken’ dapat dikatakan mampu, dengan persentase 98.36%. Terdapat 246 kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa. Dengan kesalahan terdapat dalam pamaéh. Ketiga, kemampuan siswa dalam menulis vokal dapat dikatakan mampu, dengan persentase 98.08%, dengan jumlah kesalahan 39. Dengan kesalahan vokal terdapat dalam vokal “é”. Keempat, kemampuan siswa dalam menulis angka dapat dikatakan mampu, dengan persentase 91.1%. Jumlah kesalahan 127. Dengan kesalahan angka dalam tanda mutlak (| |). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan menulis aksara Sunda siswa dapat dikatakan mampu menulis aksara Sunda dengan benar, dengan persentase 63.22%, atau 43 siswa dari 68 siswa yang mengikuti lomba.

This research is motivated by the existence of a national identity crisis in Indonesian society, especially in young people or students. This research aims to analyze the discourse on relations between Indonesia and Papua found in a history textbook for senior high school of 2013 curriculum. Through this research, an understanding of how the state reconstructs national identity (Indonesian-ness) and local identity (Papuan-ness) in a history textbook for senior high school used by senior high school students in Jayapura City. The research method used is the qualitative method, which focuses on the content analysis of the history textbook. This analysis will focus on the relations between Indonesia and Papua. The meaning process was conducted using two concepts, namely Indonesian-ness and Papuan-ness. Then, those two concepts were represented in three themes: ethnic nationalism, nationalism, and national integration. The results of the research showed that the discourse on national identity (Indonesian-ness) and local identity (Papuan-ness) was a product of the government’s political policies in education, namely ideology and state identity. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya krisis identitas nasional di masyarakat Indonesia, terutama pada kaum muda atau pelajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis wacana tentang hubungan Indonesia dan Papua yang ditemukan dalam buku teks sejarah untuk kurikulum SMA 2013. Melalui penelitian ini, pemahaman tentang bagaimana negara merekonstruksi identitas nasional dan identitas lokal dalam buku teks sejarah untuk SMA yang digunakan oleh siswa SMA di Kota Jayapura. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif, yang berfokus pada analisis isi buku teks sejarah. Analisis ini akan fokus pada hubungan antara Indonesia dan Papua. Proses pemaknaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan dua konsep, yaitu keindonesiaan dan ke-Papua-an. Kemudian, kedua konsep tersebut diwakili dalam tiga tema: nasionalisme etnis, nasionalisme, dan integrasi nasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wacana tentang identitas nasional dan identitas lokal adalah produk kebijakan politik pemerintah dalam pendidikan, yaitu ideologi dan identitas negara.

The study deals with the developing interactive media for senior high school students. The objective of this study is to find out how to develop interactive media for better speaking skill of senior high school students. The research was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D). The subject of this research was 2016/2017 students of the eleventh grade of Class XI IPA4 in SMAN 1 Batang Kuis. The number of the students was 30 students. The data of this study was collected by using need analysis questionnaire and experts’ judgment. Need analysis questionnaire was calculated by using percentage to get the information of students’ need before developing interactive media. Experts’ judgment was calculated by using likert data, mean and criteria interval of expert judgment to know the validity of interactive media which has been developed. After the data analyzed, it was found that the experts’ judgment result was 4.80 which had a very good criteria interval. The result of the research find that interactive media is a very good to be used in teaching speaking skill.

The objectives of this study were to find out the types of lexical ambiguity and the most dominant type of lexical ambiguity used in analytical exposition texts in English Today 2 and Advanced Learning English 2 textbooks. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The research was mainly focused on the four types of lexical ambiguity proposed by Saeed, such as homonymy, polysemy, synonymy and antonymy. In carrying out this study, the data were taken from analytical exposition texts in reading materials and exercise material from the two English textbooks which contained of ambiguous words. The result of the study indicated the numbers of lexical ambiguity were 46 words within homonymy (34,8%), polysemy (28,2%), synonymy (19,6%), and antonymy (17,4%).
