Many studies have described the use of mobile assisted language learning in language teaching and learning; yet, the number of studies in listening skill remains unsatisfactory. Few researchers appear to have considered how to use mobile learning devices to support pedagogical approach to develop academic listening skills. Several studies in the past, required learners to read from mobile phones rather than listening to audios. There were attempts to use computer technology integration into instruction; however, few were in mobile technology. The interest in research related to the impact of mobile assisted language learning on developing students’ listening skills remains relatively low and consequently listening has been neglected. Thus, the current paper aims at exploring the effectiveness of mobile assisted language learning devices both as instructional tools and learning resources within and beyond classroom learning environments to develop language skills in particular listening sub-skills. The experimental design is pretest-experiment-post-test. To conduct the study two groups of experimental (30) and control (30) out of 60 second year students at Al Iraqia University/ college of education for women/ department of English were made. Both groups were taught the same material, but using different methods. The results of the post-test indicated that the use of mobile assisted language learning devices had impacts on developing experimental group’s listening skills and outperformed the control group.

The article is intended to introduce blended learning methods at Sukma Bangsa School, Aceh. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of blended learning method specifically in the study of Islamic history, which is one of the main topics in religion education lessons in the 8th grade at the three different locations of Sukma Bangsa School. The study uses quantitative methods and was carried out during the first semester of the school year 2015 -2016 in the three locations of Sukma Bangsa School. Research data was obtained through the pre-test and the post-test that were conducted at the beginning of the research and the end of the research. The total number of students in this study was 142 students: 57 students from Bireuen, 34 students from Pidie, and 51 students from Lhokseumawe. The results of the study at the three different locations of Sukma Bangsa School show that although there was an increase in the average value and standard deviation, the statistics do not show a significant difference between the achievement of students in the blended learning method and in the face-to-face method. Therefore, an understanding of context by the teachers in the use of blended learning is needed to improve students’ achievement results.[Artikel ini dimaksudkan untuk lebih mengenalkan metode pengajaraan blended learning di Sekolah Sukma Bangsa, Aceh. This paper examines the introduction of blended learning on a part-time higher education programme for mature students. The interpretive work draws on four action research cycles conducted over two years with two student cohorts. Discussion is based on observations, staff and student focus groups and interviews examining the students’ expectations and experiences. The initial focus of the action research was on the introduction of technology into the teaching and learning experience. However, the advantage of an interpretive approach is allowing the findings to determine the course of the research. During the first action research cycles, the focus of the research changed from the use of technology in blended learning to the role of the practitioners involved. The authors advocate the key role of reflective practitioners in facilitating blended learning and suggest that action research is a useful framework.
