The origin of hydrocarbon deposits in Jurassic and pre-Jurassic complexes of the Khanty-Mansiysk area, located within the Frolov depression, in the local compression zone of the West Siberian plate — the suture zone, is established. The core and crude oil of Jurassic and pre-Jurassic complexes from prospecting wells of the Khanty-Mansiyskoe field is studied. The content and molecular mass distribution of hydrocarbons, including n-alkanes, n-alkylbenzenes, naphthalene’s and phenanthrenes, is determined in bitumen of rocks and oils by chromatography-mass spectrometry. Lithological and petrographic characteristics of rocks is determined by optical microscopy. For oil deposits of the pre-Jurassic complex “source of hydrocarbons” is not reliably established, the parent rocks were not clearly identified in this research. In the lower horizons of the Jurassic section, there is a layer of highly permeable gritstone of the Gorely formation, in which organic matter is localized, presumably making the main contribution to the hydrocarbon deposits of the lower Jurassic and pre-Jurassic complexes. As a possible “source of Paleozoic oil”, it is proposed to collect hydrocarbons from scattered organic matter of Paleozoic rocks at a significant depth (not covered by core drilling) in the areas of tectonic block crushing of foundation.

The paper presents the results of studying rocks of the domanic horizon of the Pervomayskoe oil field represented by core material of the well 467D. In tectonic terms, this well, like the entire Pervomayskoe field, is confined to the axial part of the Kama-Kinel deflection system on the territory of the North-Tatar arch. Administratively, the Pervomayskoe deposit is located on the territories of the Elabuga, Mendeleevsky and Tukaevsky districts of the Republic of Tatarstan. To study the core material presented, different studies were conducted, including a macroscopic description of the core; comparison of the studied rocks with well logging data; optical microscopic analysis; X-ray analysis; determination of reservoir properties of rocks; study of organic matter by the Rock-Eval pyrolysis method. Based on the analysis, it was found that the domanic horizon is composed of rocks containing carbonate and siliceous minerals to varying degrees, occasionally including minor mixtures of other minerals. The section of rocks is characterized by a sharp change in the lithological composition with a thickness of interlayers of several centimeters. According to Rock-Eval data, carbonate-siliceous interlayers have a high content of organic matter. Organic matter in Domanic deposits is characterized as immature and is found in rocks in the form of kerogen.

Chemical analysis of 12 soil profiles on granite showed that all except two had lost phosphate by leaching. The loss of phosphorus from each profile is calculated in grams per sq centimetre of profile surface, and as a percentage of the amount originally present. Three methods of calculation are used, each being based on one of the following assumptions as to the changes which take place on rock weathering: that there is (a) no change in weight, (b) no change in volume, (c) no loss of zirconium. The three methods are generally consistent in showing which soils are the most leached and which are the least leached. The estimated loss of phosphorus from each profile depends on which assumption is made. There is no simple correlation between the loss of phosphorus and the present rainfall. Reasons which are suggested are that the soils differ in age, in level of organic matter, and possibly in the rates of weathering of the parent rocks. Up to two-thirds of the phosphorus retained in the soil is chemically bound by the free oxides of iron and aluminium.

AbstractTransmitted light and scanning electron imaging of sectioned specimens ofConulariaandParaconularia, prepared using HCl etching and critical point drying, revealed that their periderm is composed of extremely thin (approximately 0.5–3 µm), variably distinct microlamellae that are alternately organic poor and organic rich. Organic-rich microlamellae are cross-connected by slender strands of organic matter originally embedded in calcium phosphate, which in etched specimens has been dissolved. Microlamellae may be organized in thicker (approximately 5–75 µm) layers, or macrolamellae, that vary in color and organic matter content, possibly owing to changes in the ambient paleoenvironment. Thickening of the periderm to form transverse ribs and internal carinae was achieved through gradual thickening of individual microlamellae. In the core of the transverse ribs and internal carinae the distinction between organic-rich and organic-poor microlamellae may be reduced, owing to organic material becoming dominant over (former) mineral matter or vice versa. Combined with observations of plicated aperture closure in thin-walled conulariids, includingArchaeoconularia slateri(Reed, 1933) (Upper Ordovician, Scotland) showing smooth folding of midline carinae through angles greater than 90°, these results suggest a structure and original flexibility in the organic-rich biocomposite forming the conulariid periderm that supports its homology to the chitinous lamellar periderm of coronate scyphozoans.

The features of the oil-bearing capacity of the productive strata of Permian deposits in the interval of 117.5-188.6 m along the section of individual wells of the Ashal’cha field of heavy superviscous oil (Tatarstan) were revealed depending on the content, composition, and thermal effects of organic matter (OM) oxidation in the rocks. It is shown that the rocks are very heterogeneous in their mineral composition and in the content of both free hydrocarbons by extraction with organic solvents and insoluble OM closely associated with the rock. The total content of OM in rocks varies from 1.72 to 9.12%. The features of group and hydrocarbon composition of extracts from rocks are revealed depending on their mineral composition and the content of organic matter in them. According to the molecular mass distribution of alkanes of normal and isoprenoid structure, extracts from rocks are differentiated according to three chemical types of oil: type A1, in which n-alkanes of composition C14 and above are present, and types A2 and B2, in which n-alkanes are destroyed to varying degrees by processes microbial destruction, which indicates a different intensity of biochemical processes in productive strata of Permian sediments. These processes lead to a decrease in the amount of OM in the rocks and an increase in the content of resins and asphaltenes in the oil extracted from them, as well as an increase in the viscosity of the oil. Using the method of differential scanning calorimetry of high pressure, it was found that the studied rock samples differ from each other in quantitative characteristics of exothermic effects in both low-temperature (LTO) 200-350°С and high-temperature (HTO) 350-600°С zones of OM oxidation. The total thermal effect of destruction processes of OM depends on the content of OM in the rocks and its composition. The research results show that when heavy oil is extracted using thermal technologies, the Permian productive strata with both low and high OM contents will be involved in the development, and the general thermal effect of the oxidation of which will contribute to increased oil recovery.

Based on the Putaohua groups in Yushulin oil field, and through the statiscics and analyses, weve found that the reservoir property of this area is in the range of specially low permeability level. So due to the low porosity and permeability, its necessary to do some reaearch on the parameters calculation method.This papers analysed the relationships between the physical property parameters such as porosity, permeability, shale content and the well logging responses such as AC, SP, GR, then we built the distribution rules histograms of each physical property parameter. And we got the distribution situations of the parameters of the oil groups. Through the multiple regression, we built the relationship formulas between the reservoir property parameters and the well logging responses by using the core analysis data of 53 test wells. Afetr comparing the parameters of calculation and the core analysis data, we found that the deviation is small, which meets the production requires of oil field.

Results from paleoenvironmental investigations of Lake Wabamun, Alta. (longitudes 114°26′ and 114°44′ W; latitudes 50°30′ and 53°35′ N), show that the sedimentary record spans the Holocene period in the case of the core taken from the deepest portion of the lake (the Seba core), while the record from the shallow Moonlight Bay spans a somewhat shorter interval. Basically, the lake has changed little during the last 4000 years except for increases in submersed hydrophytes in Moonlight Bay and undoubtedly other shallow regions of the lake. Production, too, has changed little during this interval except in Moonlight Bay, where hydrophytes and benthic algae contributed more to the sedimentary organic matter and fossil pigments. The deposition of the Mt. Mazama tephra in the catchment area and lake at 6600 years BP may have had a profound effect upon the lake. Increased turbidity occurred. This together with climatic changes including increased precipitation and catchment-area instability caused rapid infilling of the lake and low production. Moreover, prior to deposition of the tephra layer, water levels were lower and the water was more saline with Ruppia present, a feature found in other lakes in Alberta during the Hypsithermal period. Finally, prior to this period the lake was similar to its present day condition except during its very beginning when more turbid conditions prevailed.

Abstract This paper presents the most recent and detailed Holocene palynological research carried out on the Congolese Atlantic littoral, in the region of Pointe-Noire, as part of the ECOFIT program (CNRS-IRD). The results are obtained on two continental sedimentary sequences (core S2 from Songolo site: 4 degrees 45'51"S, 11 degrees 51'55"E, alt. 5 m and core 2 from Coraf site: 4 degrees 45'S, 11 degrees 51'E, alt. 1 m). Pollen data and interpretation are completed on the Songolo sequence by mineralogical (quartz, kaolinite, TOM) and isotopic (delta 13 C on organic matter) analysis allowing a continuous reconstruction of the Congolese littoral palaeoenvironments from 7000 yr. cal B.P. onwards. The Congolese coastal plain is today a mosaic of forest-grassland. Sandy open short savanna largely occurs with as dominant grass Loudetia arundinacea. Locally, Symphonia globulifera swamp forests are present along rivers and in flooded areas. Mangrove with Rhizophora is not well developed except along the Kouilou estuarine. The climate is characterized by mean annual precipitation not exceeding 1300 mm and temperature ranging between 22 and 25 degrees C. The core S2 from Songolo site was extracted using a piston corer. The coring site is today a peat building swamp with abundant Cyperus papyrus. The local dominant trees are Raphia and Alstonia. The presence of Elaeis guineensis (oil palm) and Mangifera indica (mango) testifies of a recent human occupation of this area. The core Coraf 2 was collected on the beach by manual penetration of PVC tube. On the two studied cores, dating control is provided by thirteen 14 C conventional and AMS dates performed on total organic matter. The ages are reported with equivalent ranges in calendar years. The present pollen, mineralogical and isotopic records, completed by previous other data (mainly macroflora remains), give new informations on vegetation and hydrological changes at local and regional scale since 7000 yr. cal B.P. on the Congolese littoral, in relation to climatic and sea level changes. The main conclusions can be summarized as follows. During the middle Holocene (7000-3000 yr. cal B.P.), expansion of swamp dense forests with Pandanus, Anthostema, Hallea, Symphonia globulifera, Syzygium, and also of mangrove (Rhizophora), as testified by pollen analysis, gives evidence of high rainfall which is also supported at Songolo by the abundance of kaolinite and quartz, an increase in the amorphous silica and delta 13 C low values typical of C 3 biomasse until 3000 yr. cal. B.P. At the same time, the occurrence in macroflora remains of trees such as Saccoglottis gabonensis, Ongokea gore and several species of Monopetalanthus that are found today in the Mont de Cristal forest in Gabon, under 2000-2500 mm of annual rainfall, confirms this climatic interpretation. A major change is registered ca. 3000 yr. cal B.P., characterized by the regression of the swamp forests which are replaced by herbaceous formations dominated by Cyperaceae and ferns, the disappearance of mangrove near the Songolo site, an important decrease in mineral influx (quartz and kaolinite) and increase in organic matter content. Increase in delta 13 C values during this period shows that most of the organic fraction derives from C 4 plants, probably linked to local expansion of Cyperus papyrus. This change, well known at this time on several sites from Central Atlantic Africa, is mainly linked to a progressive regional deterioration of climate towards aridity. On the Songolo site, the presence of fresh water taxa such as Nymphaea lotus supports an absence of marine water influence, indicating a sea level regressive episode well known, at the same time, along the West African coast. During the most recent period, despite more favourable climatic conditions (rainfall), no re-extension of littoral swamp forests is detected. These results are mainly related to the location of the studied sites, in an area of particularly intense human impact as shown by the occurrence of Elaeis guineensis (oil palm) in macroflora remains recovered from numerous archeological sites. The multidisciplinary data presented here correlate well with previous records from Central Atlantic Africa (Congo and Cameroon). The general similarity of the registered changes during the last 7000 yr cal B.P. strongly supports a regional climatic interpretation.
