Flapper's phenomenon appeared in the 1920s in line with the feminist achievement on women's suffrage. Industrialism opened the possibility for vistas of young American generations at that time to undergo a good member of changes both in moral and manners. The characteristics of flappers are reflected in literary works by Fitzgerald, an American famous novelist. In achieving the objective of this research, a qualitative method is applied by the way of library research - collecting data from both primary and secondary sources. The former, This Side of Paradise (1919), a novel telling about the young generation, The Great Gatsby (1925) and Tender is The Night, both describing the maturity of the flappers. The outcome of the research proves that there is a similarity, in moral and manners, between the flappers in Fitzgerald's fictions and those in reality during the 1920s. The new values differed from the old ones which were maintained by the cult of true womanhood, especially in concern with those young generations performances, manners, and morals. The media encouraged the development of the new values. There is also a sense of paradox: on one hand Fitzgerald implicitly tended to spread out the moral and manners of flappers, but on the other hand, he criticizes them.

The second chapter, “Living Room,” examines Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night. It follows Woolf’s and Fitzgerald’s affectively confused protagonists through social settings in which a clarifying audience is sometimes present: another person’s word or gestures sometimes inadvertently assuages their confusions. The contingency of these moments of elucidation drives their protagonists to frustration and even despair. It also makes them over-idealize these random encounters as forms of deep connection and empathy that both novelists ironize. By contrasting these representations of affect against the work of Brian Massumi, the chapter shows why these anxieties over affective self-awareness are more philosophically significant than Massumi allows.

Abstrak:Penelitian ini adalah penelitian stilistika yang mengkaji tentang penggunaan archetype dan loose sentence structure dalam membangun kesan mental pembaca tentang American Nightmare. Melalui penelitian ini, peneliti menggali pola-pola penggunaan archetype, loose sentence structure, serta konsep mental pembaca dalam memahami bacaan.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas gaya penulisan Fizgerald dengan menggunakan ornamen berupa archetype, loose sentence structure guna membangun kesan mental pembaca tentang America Nightmare. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah deskriptive kualitatif sedangkan desainnya adalah library research. Data yang digunakan adalah data primer berupa kutipan-kutipan yang dicari dari novel, selain itu juga data sekunder berupa referensi-referensi pendukung. Peneliti juga menggunakan coding dalam proses koleksi data. Teknik ini digunakan untuk membantu peneliti dalam mengklasifikasikan data. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dokumentasi maka dalam analisis peneliti menggunakan pendekatan content analysis selain itu interactive analysis juga digunakan peneliti dalam tahap analisis data. Dalam penelitian ini diperoleh data sebagai berikut:[1] ditemukan data tentang penggunaan archetype sejumlah 851 data/70.79%; [2] ditemukan data tentang penggunaan loose sentence structure sejumlah 351 data/29.20 %; [3] ditemukan data tentang peng­gunaan archetype dan loose sentence structure secara bersamaan sejumlah 1202 data/100%. Sedangkan kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa penggunaan kedua ornamen, khususnya berupa archetype, didukung juga oleh penggunaan loose sentence structure membuat kontek dari sebuah teks mudah dipahami, Kedua ornamen tersebut meminimalis kesulitan pembaca dalam berinteraksi dengan teks.Kata kunci: American Nightmare, archetype, loose sentence structure

This study examines the implementation of moral education in QS. Al-Hujurat verses 11-13 in Sayyid Qutb's Tafsir Fi Zilalil Quran. The purpose of this research is to describe the messages and values ​​of moral education as contained in the letter Al-Hujurat verses 11-13. The benefits of this research are theoretically expected to provide a small contribution of thought or input that is useful for Islamic education, while practically this research is expected to provide a little contribution of thought, especially for researchers and readers in general in understanding the contents of the content or values ​​in the letter. Al-Hujurat verses 11-13. The data collection method in this thesis research is a qualitative method through searching data or library research, library data collection methods, reading and processing research materials. The source of the commentary book Fi Zhilalil Qur'an is supported by secondary sources which are related to the problem. Based on the results of research and data analysis, it can be concluded that: The values ​​of moral education contained in the Al-Hujurat verse 11-13 in the interpretation of Fi Zhilalil qur'an, namely the prohibition of making fun of, criticizing, calling badly, haram and prejudice , backbiting, finding fault with others and equality and ta'aruf. The study found that there are three types of interpretation used by sayyid qutub. The methods used are takhalli, tahalli and tajalli.

This chapter overviews how Fitzgerald’s war writing was refracted through his evolution as a writer, from The Side of Paradise—his chaotic and immature debut novel—through his experimentations with naturalism in The Beautiful and Damned, to the ambiguous portrayal he gives of World War I in The Great Gatsby. Tender Is the Night, while more stylistically mature than Fitzgerald’s first novel, I argue, revisits many of the representational strategies explored in his debut. Like Boyd, Fitzgerald’s World War I-related projects were caught up in his commercially necessitated magazine fiction and spells in Hollywood.

This study entitled “The Structure of Jay Gatsby’s Personality in The Great Gatsby Novel” is aimed to describe Jay Gatsby’s structure of personality and his behavioral representations. The data were taken from the novelThe Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Qualitative method was applied to analyze Jay Gatsby’s structure of personality and his behavioral representations. The theories used to analyzed are the theory of literature proposed by Kenney, theory of psychoanalysis and theory of anxiety proposed by Freud. The theory of literature showed that The Great Gatsby used mixed plot and in order to reveal the character of Jay Gatsby, mixing method was used.The psychoanalysis theory showed three structures of personality of human minds: the id, the ego, and the superego. The behavioral representations of the structure of personality showed in anxiety and defense mechanism of the ego: repression, fixation, and regression. The result of analysis showed that the desire of human beings must not be negative and must be realistic otherwise it will effect his/her behavior and how he/sheis treated in society.

Scott Fitzgerald’s <em>The Great Gatsby</em> and to find out<em> </em>the relatedness between setting and plot in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s <em>The Great Gatsby.  </em>This research used library research method and used stuctural approach. So this only focus on the intrinsic elements which build the story as a literary work, such as plot, character, and setting. The result of the research shows that structural elements of F. Fizgerald’s <em>The Great Gatsby </em>present a solid unity. Each element has close relation with other elements in forming the wholeness of the story. Most critics tackle Fitzgerald's works thematically, whereas what distinguishes his fictional narratives is his magnificent style, suggestive language and innovative narrative methods and techniques. This is quite evident in The Great Gatsby and other pieces like The Last Tycoon, "The Mountain as Big as the Ritz", the autobiographical piece The Crack Up, etc. Tender is the Night is among these masterpieces which is our major concern in this paper. Yet still, this novel witnessed some controversial issues in its narrative technique and method. The study of the narrative method and technique in Tender is the Night has no less significance in the literary world than it has in The Great Gatsby. In fact, Fitzgerald mounted his artistic maturity and craftsmanship in this novel despite all the controversial issues that surrounded the novel's first publication. The present study sheds light on the cons and pros of the narrative technique and method in both versions of Tender is the Night with necessary reference to the development of the events in the novel.

The Great Gatsby is a novel that was written in 1925 by Scott Fitzgerald. it represents The American Dream and the desire of achieving it through the protagonist attempts to achieve The American Dream. The protagonist is Jay Gatsby he is a self-made man who belongs to the working class of society, he gained his wealth through the organized crime and illegal business, Jay was charmed by the lifestyle of the rich people and the identity of being one of them. He used his fortune to make incredible parties in his mansion showing his wealth power and to attract Daisy’s attention, the women he loves most. Gatsby represents the American dreamers who belong to the repressed class of society, this young generation who believes in The American Dream and the possibility of achieving it. The American Dream was created by the dominant class of society in order to control the economic system. The falsie fact that this dream was built upon is the social justice, the social equality that gives equal chances to everyone to achieve their desires via hard work without concern about their social background. The American Dream is mainly about either wealth obtaining which was the aspiration of these young working-class people or social ascendency. Gatsby despite his recent gained fortune and new identity as he changed his name from James to Jay Gatsby was not able to be a member of the bourgeoisies; he was rejected due to his social background. Therefore, the social equality concept was denied alongside the hard work and equality of chances in achieving The American Dream was denied by the illegal career of Gatsby.

This paper explores the meaning of reality constructions coverage two online media, Tribunnews.com and Detik.com, about "Raja Jokowi" in the general election 2019. The study uses a qualitative method with Entman analysis framing to express means of the media coverage—data collected by taking primary and secondary sources. Primer data took from two online media news that is restricted to November 11-20, 2018. Furthermore, I collected second sources from journals, research reports, online news portals, and books. All online media have been limited by news numbers; Tribunnews.com is five news, and Detik.com is five news. Resulting studies that two online media have been featured a neutral information about "Raja Jokowi" poster. It can be proved with choosing diction word that does not contain controversial. This condition is essential as a social stabilization strut in other to does not occurs a vertical conflict in the political momentum. Meanwhile, the campaign team of Jokowi, know as Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN), has wisely explored in the media for all of the black campaigns; it will all be taken care by the authorities. The political elite’s consciousness to dampen the masses and fanatical society towards one of the spouses of presidential candidates is a maturity in democracy.Artikel ini mengeksplorasi makna konstruksi realitas pemberitaan dua media online, Tribunnews.com dan Detik.com, tentang “Raja Jokowi” pada momentum pemilihan presiden tahun 2019. Untuk mengungkapkan makna tersebut, studi ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis framing Entman. Data dikumpulkan dengan pengambilan sumber data primer dan sekunder. Data primer diperoleh dari berita online dua media dengan batasan waktu 11-20 Nopember 2018. Masing-masing media online di batasi jumlah beritanya; Tribunnews.com berjumlah 5 berita dan Detik.com berjumlah 5 berita. Sementara itu, sumber sekunder dikumpulkan melalui sumber dari jurnal, laporan penelitian, portal berita online, dan buku. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua media online tersebut memberitakan tentang poster “Raja Jokowi” bersifat netral. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dengan pilihan diksi kata yang tidak mengandung kontroversi. Kondisi ini penting sebagai penyangga stabilitas sosial agar tidak terjadi konflik vertikal di tengah politik nasional yang memanas. Sementara itu, kampanye yang mengarah kepada Tim Sukses pemenangan Jokowi, disebut juga Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN), dapat dihandel secara bijak. Pernyataan Ketua Tim Sukses Jokowi, Erick Tohir, secara bijak menyampaikan dalam media, segala sesuatu yang mengarah kepada kampanye hitam (black campign), semua akan diurus oleh pihak berwenang. Kesadaran elit politik untuk meredam masa dan masyarakat yang fanatik terhadap salah satu pasangan Calon Presiden adalah bentuk kedewasaan dalam berdemokrasi.
