Although the jumping characteristics of agility dogs have been examined in recent years, there is currently a lack of data related to the suspension phase. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the biomechanics of the suspension phase of the agility jump and to analyze the kinematic differences in dogs with different jumping abilities. Two groups of dogs of the same height category (large dogs) competing at different skill levels and assessed as excellent jumpers (n = 4) and less-skilled jumpers (n = 3), respectively, were analyzed and statistically compared. Excellent jumpers showed longer and faster jumps with flatter jump trajectories than less-skilled jumpers. In less-skilled jumpers, the distance in front of the hurdle was notably greater than the distance behind it, while the difference between these two distances was less in excellent jumpers. Length and duration of the jump, maximal height of the jumping trajectory, take-off and landing distances to the hurdle, time of occurrence of maximal jump height, and time of change in back orientation essentially defines the suspension phase of the agility jump. This study presents preliminary evidence that the kinematic characteristics of hurdle clearance are different in excellent jumper dogs and in less-skilled jumper dogs.

In the process of grinding precision balls, the motion state of balls has an important influence on the efficiency and quality. However, the normal movement of balls will be damaged because of slipping, so it must be avoided. Besides, to process different materials of balls, it should use different processing parameters. This paper studies a numerical analysis on the kinematic characteristics of the motion of balls, analyzes processing parameters which impact the motion of balls during grinding and the difference of the motion state of bearing balls and resin balls. Study shows grinding pressure and plate speed have a great influence to the motion of balls during grinding.

The role of the user interface (interaction mode) is of considerable importance, since the method of interaction can have an impact on both performance and satisfaction with regards to using a programming language. While markup languages are now widely used for Web page and site design and electronic publishing applications, they have not been studied adequately compared with other kinds of languages. The impact of interaction mode, in this case command-based coding, versus using a form-fill-in wizard, is examined, with respect to performance and satisfaction while performing a survey-oriented task. Skill level, which classified users as being either a novice or experienced, was another factor, which was taken into account in this study. The results showed the use of wizards brought about better performance than using the command language, and the difference between modes was far greater for novices rather than experienced users. In addition, using the wizard tended to equalize performance across skill levels. With regards to system satisfaction, there were significant differences between interaction modes, however no differences were reported between skill levels. These differences in performance and satisfaction should be noted and considered when designing interactive systems for programming-related applications.

The mold clamping mechanism is an important mechanism of injection machine, and the mold clamping mechanism with good kinematic characteristics is the goal pursued when designing injection machine. Traditionally, the mold clamping mechanism must have at least one toggle effect at clamped position; when the mold is at open position, the mold clamping mechanism does not need to have toggle effect. In this paper, 2 mechanisms of existing patents are used to illustrate the process of the dimensional synthesis and kinematic analysis of mold clamping mechanism with double toggle effects at clamped position. The kinematic characteristics of 2nd mechanism is better than 1st mechanism.

A novel computer aided geometry approach for type synthesis and analysis of new spatial 4-DOF parallel manipulators is put forward, and create the computer simulation mechanisms of parallel manipulators using the geometric constraints and dimension driving techniques in CAD software, Based on the computer simulation mechanisms of parallel manipulators, several new spatial 4-DOF parallel manipulators are synthesized, the kinematic characteristics of the moving platforms are analyzed by computer simulation. The results of computer simulation prove that the computer aided geometric approach for solving type synthesis and kinematic analysis is not only fairly quick and straightforward, but also has the advantages of accuracy.

When tree scars contribute to develop rockfall models Rockfall is an often occurring natural hazard in mountainous areas. Because rocks proceed very quickly with different types of motion, and because their run-out path is influenced by several factors, the implementation of rockfall processes in numerical models is complex. This article presents the methods of visual scar identification on trees and of measuring rock deposits, to validate the accuracy of the RAMMS::Rockfall model within the active rockfall area of Meretschibach (Canton of Valais, Switzerland). Scenarios with different rock shapes and modified terrain parameters were applied to test the sensitivity of the model to these parameters. Using scans of natural rocks from the field site, which are representative in shape and volume resulted in more realistic modelled median jump heights compared to rocks of the same size (small or large), but also to standard RAMMS rocks which were quite similar in shape and volume to the scanned rocks. The best simulations resulted when the terrain type was defined as two classes softer than registered in terrain. In this case, the difference between the simulated median jump height and the height of the scars on trees was just 23 cm. These results led to improvements in the model and handbook. This study highlights the importance of precise field data to better specify input parameters for rockfall modelling.

Aim: To examine whether neck strength and symmetry are associated with psychological function in athletes with exposure to repetitive head impacts. Methods: Collegiate soccer (n = 29) and limited/noncontact (n = 63) athletes without a history of concussion completed the Brief Symptom Inventory 18 and assessments of isometric neck strength. Neck strength symmetry was calculated as the difference in strength between opposing muscle groups. Results: The results demonstrated that lower neck strength was associated with more symptoms of anxiety, whereas asymmetry in neck strength was associated with more symptoms of somatization and depression in soccer athletes only. Conclusion: These preliminary results suggest that greater neck strength/symmetry is related to better psychological function in athletes who have higher exposure to repetitive head impacts.
