Torsion springs, which transfer power through the twisting of their coil, provide advantages such as module simplification and efficient use of space. The design of a torsion spring has been formulated, but it is difficult to determine the local behaviors of torsion springs according to actual load conditions. This study proposes a torsion-spring design method through finite element analysis (FEA) using nonuniform-rational-basis-spline (NURBS) curves. Through experimentation, the angle and displacement values for the actual spring load were converted into useable data. Torsion-spring displacement values were obtained via experimentation and converted into coordinates that may be expressed using NURBS curves. The results of these experiments were then compared to those obtained via FEA, and the validity of this method was thereby verified.

The use of finite element theory and modal analysis theory, the structure of the machine static and dynamic performance analysis and prediction using optimal design method for optimization, the new machine to improve job performance, improve processing accuracy, shorten the development cycle and enhance the competitiveness of products is very important. Selected for three-dimensional CAD modeling software-UG NX4.0 and finite element analysis software-ANSYS to set up the structure of the beam finite element model, and then post on the overall structure of the static and dynamic characteristic analysis, on the basis of optimized static and dynamic performance is more superior double wall structure of the beam. And by changing the wall thickness and the thickness of the inner wall, as well as the reinforcement plate thickness overall sensitivity analysis shows that changes in these three parameters on the dynamic characteristics of post impact. Application of topology optimization methods, determine the optimal structure of the beam ultimately.

A new steel special-shaped lattice column (SSLC) was proposed, which can be used in prefabricated steel structure residence. The finite element models of four SSLC with different cross-section (L-shaped, T1-shaped, T2-shaped and X-shaped) were established under cyclic loading by using ABAQUS, in which the strength, lateral resist capacity and hysteretic behavior were analyzed. The results indicate that SSLC has adequate strength, stiffness and safety redundancy. Among the four SSLC, the SSLC with X-shaped has the best structural performance and seismic behavior.

Because of environmental issues, the regulations on gas emission from fossil fuels become stricter. Some investigations are being carried out actively to change the fossil fuel power into electrical power. Researches on the reduction of weight in the transportation machine is also executed. Weight reduction is one of the methods of reducing the gas emission and increasing the range of electrically powered machines. The method of weight reduction includes the development of light weight material and light weight structure design method. FRP is the most representative light weight material. Among various FRP materials, (CFRP) has the highest specific strength. Light weight structure design method includes the method of designing the structure by converting the bonding method with bolts and rivets to adhesion method with the use of adhesives. In order to pursue the research on the adhesive structure design method, the research on adhesion exfoliation by using CZM needs to be carried out. There are the researches with various methods in accordance with the style of adhesion exfoliation load and material designs. In this study, the adhesion exfoliation on the tearing fracture of tapered double cantilever beam configuration was applied to the research. Research model was composed by applying the gradient angles of 6° and 8° to TDCB. The model with the gradient angle of 8° has less fracture due to adhesion than that of 8°. The basic data on structural design of adhesion structure were provided by comparatively analyzing the research models. This research was carried out by using finite element analysis method in this study. Finite element analysis method has the advantage of reducing the cost and time taken for experiments in researches. Therefore, the finite element analysis program, ANSYS, was used in this study.

In this paper, the procedure for the strength evaluation of the piping system installed on liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers is discussed. A procedure that accounts for the ship’s wave load and hull motion acceleration (as well as the deformation due to the thermal expansion and contraction experienced by the hull during seafaring operations) is presented. The load due to the temperature and self-weight of the piping installed on the deck is also considered. Various operating and load conditions of the LNG piping system are analyzed. Stress analysis is performed by combining various conditions of sustained, occasional, and expansion loads. Stress is assessed using finite element analysis based on beam elements that represent the behavior of the piping. The attributes of the piping system components (such as valves, expansion joints, and supports) are represented in the finite element model while CAESAR-II, a commercial software is used for finite element analysis. Component modeling, load assignment, and load combinations are presented to evaluate pipe stresses under various load conditions. An evaluation model is selected for the piping arrangement of LNG and the evaluated stress is compared with the allowable stress defined by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

The classical preload design method of prestressed frame of hydraulic presses is based on the assumption that the beams of the frame are rigid, which is not agree with practice. In order to eliminate the unbalance load of the frame of a 100MN hydraulic press due to improper prestressing, tie rod preload distribution in prestressing of the frame is researched with respectively mechanics of materials and the finite element methods. According to mechanics of materials and finite element analysis results, reasonable tie rod preloads and sequence of preloading are obtained and the unbalance load of the frame of the hydraulic press is solved. It also provides references for the preload design of prestressed frame of hydraulic presses.

This paper presents an investigation into the losses and thermal characteristics of induction motors operated from pulse width-modulated (PWM) voltage supply in comparison to that operated from sinusoidal voltage supply. It was concluded that due to the abundant harmonics in the PWM waveforms, significant losses are induced in the motor by the inverter supply. The temperature ascends correspondingly. Experiments were conducted with no load and with load conditions. The losses and thermal characteristics were calculated using finite element analysis (FEA) and validated by the experiments.
