In order to realize rapid THz detecting and imaging, a line beam scanning-based ultra-fast THz imaging platform is designed combining simple optical components and lightweight mechanical system. The designed THz imaging platform has the resolution of 12 mm, the scanning angle range of ±10.5°, the scanning speed of 0.17 s/frame, and the scanning range of 2 m × 0.8 m; moreover, it can realize rapid human body THz imaging and distinguish metallic objects. Considering its high-quality performance in THz imaging and detecting, it is believed the proposed line beam scanning-based ultra-fast THz imaging platform can be used in the future in various safe screening applications.

AbstractThe Japanese National Large Telescope is an 8-metre class optical-infrared reflector with a monolithic thin meniscus mirror, to be constructed at the Mauna Kea summit, Hawaii. The JNLT will be characterised by high quality performance in the optical and infrared regions, achieved by adopting new technologies such as active mirror support, fast optics and a thermally controlled dome. In particular, high infrared qualities are regarded as the most important characteristics among various design goals. The JNLT project is now close to the final study phase before construction. This paper reviews the scientific motivations and the special technical features of the JNLT. Finally, the promotion of international collaboration around the JNLT is emphasised.

The research objective is to improve the quality of soil loosening using combined working bodies for surface moisture-retaining soil cultivation. The efficiency of accumulation and conservation of precipitation in the autumn-winter period depends on the method of post-harvest soil cultivation. One of them is the autumn surface water-retaining treatment, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the processes of accumulation and conservation of moisture due to the deeper loosening of the cultivated soil layer. During loosening and mulching, the top layer of the soil contributes to the accumulation and preservation of moisture not only in the upper but also in deeper soil horizons. However, the used tillage tools do not fully solve the problem of the high-quality performance of surface moisture-retaining soil cultivation. The article presents the results of studies of the degree of influence of geometric and technological parameters of the additional active cultivator on the quality of surface tillage. Based on the results of the research carried out, the technological process of performing the surface tillage operation has been improved and combined working bodies have been developed for its implementation.

In this paper Enhanced Spider (ES) algorithm is proposed to solve reactive power Problem. Enthused by the spiders, a new Enhanced Spider (ES) algorithm is utilized to solve reactive power problem. The composition is primarily based on the foraging approach of social spiders, which make use of of the vibrations spread over the spider web to choose the position of prey. The simulation results demonstrate high-quality performance of Enhanced Spider (ES) algorithm in solving reactive power problem.  The projected Enhanced Spider (ES) algorithm has been tested in standard IEEE 57,118 bus systems and compared to other reported standard algorithms. Results show that Enhanced Spider (ES) algorithm is more efficient than other algorithms in reducing the real power loss.

Anodic spark deposition (ASD) is a novel technique to deposit bioceramic films on the surface of titanium (Ti) and its alloys, and the films prepared with nano/micro scale pores are characterized by high-quality performance for dental implant. Among the process parameters, electrolyte provides a leading role owing to its vital influence not only on the films chemistry but also on the electrical conductivity of the circuit, which affects the film properties. In this study, titania porous films were synthesized by ASD and the effect of electrolytic temperature on microstructure and chemical composition of the films was studied. The results show that the electrolytic temperature could significantly influence the surface topography, thickness and chemical composition of the oxidation films produced by ASD and, therefore, determined the layered hydroapatite (HA) deposition as the other process parameters were fixed.

This article explores the meaning of lifelong learning for professional musicians. It identifies three interrelated incentives that serve as anchors for musicians' self-identity throughout their lives: informal music-making; improvisation; and high-quality performance. It discusses how institutions and teachers can facilitate attitudes and capacities for lifelong learning. It concludes with recommendations for implementing lifelong learning in the education of professional musicians.

Abstract Based on a substrate integrated lens (SIL), a compact line source generator (LSG) for feeding continuous transverse stub (CTS) arrays with linear-polarized (LP) beam scanning and dual-polarized (DP) operations is presented in this paper. The SIL consists of metamaterial cells with different sizes being arranged as concentric annulus and is printed on the center surface of two substrate layers. The SIL can convert the cylindrical wave generated by the feed probe of SIW-horn to the planar wave for feeding the CTS array. This rotationally symmetric SIL can be used conveniently to design LSG for feeding CTS arrays with the continuous beam scanning and DP operations, which has been verified by the fabrications and measurements. By simply rotating the SIW-horn along the edge of SIL, the 10-element LP-CTS array obtains a measured beam scanning range of ±35° with the highest gain of 20.6 dBi. By setting two orthogonal SIW-horns at the edge of the proposed SIL, the nine-element DP-CTS array with orthogonal radiation stubs is excited. The DP array obtains the gain of 20.3 dBi at the center frequency with the isolation of 28 dB and the cross-polarization level <−25 dB.

Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) endoscopy contributes a major clinical service with consistently growing demand around the world. Its utility corresponds to varying epidemiological issues throughout the globe, with cancer screening and surveillance being of the utmost priority. Despite high accuracy in neoplasia detection, UGI endoscopy remains a highly operator-dependent procedure, characterized by a substantial rate of missed pathology. Despite an overall lack of high-quality performance measures, there is an increased level of awareness about the need for quality control of this procedure, which is reflected in several guidelines and position statements published in recent years. It is widely recognized that quality assessment should go beyond mere technical aspects of the examination, and include both pre- and post-procedural factors. By this means, quality control encompasses the entire patient experience with the health care provider, from appropriate indication and physical assessment, through high-quality endoscopy service, to appropriate follow up and patient satisfaction. This article aims to review the available and emerging quality metrics for UGI endoscopy, taken mostly from Western endoscopy societies, with references to Asian recommendations where appropriate. The paper is limited solely to diagnostic UGI endoscopy and does not include performance measures for therapeutic procedures.
