Titanium nanotubes were hydrothermally synthesized via a two-step method for ODS (oxidative desulfurization). The catalysts’ structures were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction), FT-IR, UV-Vis (UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra), NH3-TPD, etc. The effects of O/S molar ratio and catalyst dosage, etc., were systematically investigated. The catalyst exhibited remarkable performance, so that the removal of DBT (dibenzothiophene) was nearly 100% under the optimal conditions in 10 min. Also, the catalysts could be easily reused for six consecutive cycles. The hydrogen-assisted thermocatalytic mechanism over titanium nanotubes for ODS was also studied and an effective reactant concentration (ERC) number of 70.8 was calculated.

The reaction between 2-[2-(aminoethyl)amino]ethanol and pyridine-2-carbaldehyde in a 1:2 molar ratio affords a mixture containing 2-({2-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)amino]ethyl}amino)ethanol (PMAE) and 2-[2-(pyridin-2-yl)oxazolidin-3-yl]-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)ethanamine (POPME). Treatment of this mixture with copper(II) chloride or cadmium(II) chloride gave trichlorido[(2-hydroxyethyl)({2-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)amino]ethyl})azanium]copper(II) monohydrate, [Cu(C10H16N3O)Cl3]·H2O or [Cu(HPMAE)Cl3]·H2O, 1, and dichlorido{2-[2-(pyridin-2-yl)oxazolidin-3-yl]-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)ethanamine}cadmium(II), [CdCl2(C16H18N4O)] or [CdCl2(POPME)], 2, which were characterized by elemental analysis, FT–IR, Raman and 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. PMAE is potentially a tetradentate N3O-donor ligand but coordinates to copper here as an N2 donor. In the structure of 1, the geometry around the Cu atom is distorted square pyramidal. In 2, the Cd atom has a distorted octahedral geometry. In addition to the hydrogen bonds, there are π–π stacking interactions between the pyridine rings in the crystal packing of 1 and 2. The ability of PMAE, POPME and 1 to interact with ten selected biomolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS, Top II and B-DNA) was investigated by docking studies and compared with doxorubicin.

AbstractPosnjakite nanoparticles, Cu4SO4(OH)6 · H2O, were synthesized by utilizing a new thio-Schiff base ligand as new capping agent via a microwave approach. The effects of molar ratio, surfactants, heating time and microwave power on morphology of the product were investigated. The as-synthesized posnjakite nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). The effects of different parameters such as the molar ratio, surfactants, microwave power and irradiation time on the morphology of the products were investigated. Moreover, adsorption of methylene orange dye on posnjakite nanoparticles was considered and the uptake percent was determined to be >65% in 200 min.

Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is synthesized quickly at room temperature in methanol with the support of ultrasound. Porous ZnO is also prepared via the thermal treatment of ZIF-8. The photocatalytic activities of the obtained materials are demonstrated via methylene blue (MB) decomposition under UV radiation. The obtained materials are characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DR-UV-Vis), and photoluminescence spectra. The results indicate that ZIF-8 and the materials obtained from ZIF-8 by heating in the air have photocatalytic activity under UV irradiation. The ZnO sample obtained by ZIF-8 calcination at 660°C for 5 h has the highest photocatalytic activity. However, the MB degradation photocatalytic efficiency of the ZnO samples is even lower than that of the ZIF-8 samples, indicating that ZIF-8 is an effective photocatalyst in the treatment of environmental pollution.

This study aims to determine the effect of the Si/Al molar ratio and the number of Na2EDTA additions on the purity and crystallinity levels of the synthesized zeolite X. zeolite X was synthesized by hydrothermal method at 70°C and 120°C for 3 and 6 hours, respectively. In the synthesis of zeolite X used boiler ash and aluminum foil waste. The results of characterization using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FT-IR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that the level of purity and crystallinity of the synthesized zeolite X was influenced by the variation of Si/Al molar rasio and amount of Na2EDTA addition. The zeolite with the best quality was obtained from the synthesis with a Si/Al molar ratio of 1.6 and the amount of Na2EDTA added as much as 3.0 g. The synthesized zeolite X has a purity level of 75% and a degree of crystallinity with a total intensity of 845.

Pyrimidine-2-thione (HSpym) reacts with lead(II) thiocyanate and lead(II) bromide in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) to form poly[(μ-isothiocyanato-κ2 N:S)(μ4-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ6 N 1,S:S:S:S,N 3)lead(II)], [Pb(C4H3N2S)(NCS)] n or [Pb(Spym)(NCS)] n , (I), and the polymeric one-dimensional (1D) compound catena-poly[[μ4-bromido-di-μ-bromido-(μ-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ3 N 1,S:S)(μ-pyrimidine-2-thione-κ3 N 1,S:S)dilead(II)] N,N-dimethylformamide monosolvate], {[Pb2Br3(C4H3N2S)(C4H4N2S)]·C3H7NO} n or {[Pb2Br3(Spym)(HSpym)]·DMF} n , (IIa), respectively. Poly[μ4-bromido-di-μ3-bromido-(μ-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ3 N 1,S:S)(μ-pyrimidine-2-thione-κ3 N 1,S:S)dilead(II)], [Pb2Br3(C4H3N2S)(C4H4N2S)] n or [Pb2Br3(Spym)(HSpym)] n , (IIb), could be obtained as a mixture with (IIa) when using a lesser amount of solvent. In the crystal structures of the pseudohalide/halide PbII stable compounds, coordination of anionic and neutral HSpym has been observed. Both Spym− (in the thiolate tautomeric form) and NCS− ligands were responsible for the two-dimensional (2D) arrangement in (I). The Br− ligands establish the 1D polymeric arrangement in (IIa). Eight-coordinated metal centres have been observed in both compounds, when considering the Pb...S and Pb...Br interactions. Both compounds were characterized by FT–IR and diffuse reflectance spectroscopies, as well as by powder X-ray diffraction. Compound (IIa) and its desolvated version (IIb) represent the first structurally characterized PbII compounds containing neutral HSpym and anionic Spym− ligands. After a prolonged time in solution, (IIa) is converted to another compound due to complete deprotonation of HSpym. The structural characterization of (I) and (II) suggests HSpym as a good candidate for the removal of PbII ions from solutions containing thiocyanate or bromide ions.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was synthesized at 520°C by the pyrolysis of cyanamide, dicyandiamide, and melamine. The samples were characterized by X–ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and elemental analyzer. The photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4was evaluated by the photodegrading experiments of methylene blue (MB). The results indicated that g-C3N4. A photocatalytic mechanism presumed the MB photodegradation over the C3N4photocatalyst is attributed to photogenerated electron impelled multistep reduction of O2.

Phosphor-doped titania nanoparticles were synthesized by a one step method, which were prepared by conventional calcination method. These samples have much higher photocatalytic activity for methylene blue degradation. The resulting materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), etc. Moreover, we use high P/TiO2 molar ratio to get the most suitable proportion for the synthesis of P-doped titania photocatalyst.

Polyoxometalate-based ionic liquid hybrid materials with a pyridinium cation, containing Brönsted acid sites, were synthesized and used as catalysts for the oxidation of model and real diesel fuels. Keggin-type polyoxometalates with the formulae [PMo12O40]3−, [PVMo11O40]4−, [PV2Mo10O40]4−, [PW12O40]3− were used as anions. It was shown that increasing the acid site strength leads to an increase of dibenzothiophene conversion to the corresponding sulfone. The best results were obtained in the presence of a catalyst, containing a nicotinic acid derivative as cation and phosphomolybdate as anion. The main factors affecting the process consisting of catalyst dosage, temperature, reaction time, oxidant dosage were investigated in detail. Under optimal conditions full oxidation of dibenzothiophene and more than a 90% desulfurization degree of real diesel fuel (initial sulfur content of 2050 ppm) were obtained (the oxidation conditions: NK-1 catalyst, molar ratio H2O2:S 10:1, molar ratio S:Mo 8:1, 1 mL MeCN, 70 °C, 1 h). The synthesized catalysts could be used five times with a slight decrease in activity.
