The study was carried out to examine the situation of university students from one month after the beginning of a very strict confinement process in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students responded to a survey which included the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) together with other questions relating to their general well-being from the European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS). A total of 198 university students answered the web-based survey. The questionnaire was generated using Microsoft Forms and was explained and distributed online. The results indicated that around 18.7% of students were suffering from severe anxiety and 70.2% were suffering either mild or moderate anxiety at this point of the strict confinement process. The findings show that when emotional well-being (quality of sleep, the perception of feeling fear, death of a relative) is reduced and material well-being is negatively affected (income level) anxiety levels are increased. On the other hand, the results show that having good interpersonal relationships with family members and taking care of personal development (routines and habits that make them feel good) help reduce anxiety levels. The female students in the sample also suffered higher levels of anxiety than males during strict confinement.

University students were confronted with abrupt changes to their daily lives by the COVID-19 lock-down. We investigated Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7) and anxiety levels, and the association between perceived impact on well-being, studies, and daily lives and anxiety levels, adjusted for gender, age, social class and affiliation. Early in the lock-down all students of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (N = 12,429) were invited to a voluntary longitudinal health survey. Participation rate was 20% (n = 2437): 70% females, median age 25 yrs. (IQR 23–28). A total of 10% reported a deterioration of well-being compared to pre-Corona. LCA yielded three classes varying in perceived COVID-19 impact: 1 (low, n = 675), 2 (moderate, n = 1098), and 3 (strong, n = 656). Adjusted proportion of moderate to severe anxiety by class were 45% (95% CI: 28.0–62.0), 15.5% (95% CI: 13.1–17.9), and 5.1% (95% CI: 4.7–5.6), respectively. Multivariate regression analyses yielded an OR for moderate to severe anxiety of 3.88 (95% CI: 2.5–6.0, class 2) and 22.43 (95% CI: 14.5–34.6, class 3) compared to class-1. The investigated association implies that containment measures have a selective effect on anxiety in students. The diversity of students’ perception and associated anxiety should be monitored and considered in future response to pandemics.

The objective of this work was to know the Quality of Life of young people of four states of Mexico with very marked cultural and geographical characteristics. To achieve the objective, the GENCAT Scale was used, proposed by Verdugo, Arias and others (2009) in which it is based on 8 sub scales: Emotional well-being, Interpersonal relationships, Material well-being, Personal development, Physical well-being, Self-determination, Social inclusion and Human rights. The sample was selected from a non-probabilistic sample of 620 young people. The instrument was validated with an item analysis in which it was obtained in Cronbach's alpha of 0.92. A comparative gender study was carried out and significant differences were found with the T test in four of the sub scales. It is concluded that young people perceive two spheres in their quality of life: the first from the personal factors is perceived very low, while the second, from the social or external factors is perceived with very high values. That is, when assessing the quality of life, young people are depersonalized, but with a high level of support from their context.

The hypothesis posed was whether participation in LaLiga Genuine Santander (competitive football) influenced the quality of life (QL) of the people who participated in it, since their perception of themselves is enhanced by all the aformentioned factors (self-determination, social inclusion, emotional well-being, physical well-being, material well-being, rights, personal development, interpersonal relationships). The objective was to evaluate the QL of people with Down's Syndrome (DS) using their self-perception (n=39) and the perception of the informants (family members, teachers) (n=39). The KidsLife-Down Scale, with a few modifications was used. In general, differences of opinion between the subgroups of participants with DS and informants showed that results were higher in terms of perception for participants in the DS subgroup. Scores for all variables were higher for those participants with DS who said they did engage in practicing competitive football. Despite the perception of informants provides a great deal of information regarding the QL of participants with DS, the latter should be involved in the evaluation process and their self perceptions taken into account. Our research shows that participation in the league modifies the perceptions of the participants with Down's Syndrome regarding their quality of life. However, these perceptions are not shared by the informants.

This article in a paper concept that discusses the roles and challenges faced by special education teachers in educating and enhancing hearing impaired students quality of life. This is consistent with the aspiration of the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) also focuses on student personal development to the future nation’s progress. In terms of student development, academic excellence in not the only main aims, but students must be educated holisticly to produce Malaysian citizens who are responsible; knowledgeable; have honourable manners, and be able to achieve personal well-being. Therefore, students with hearing impairments require special education system to suit their different necessities. Special education teachers should prepare themselves with various knowledge, expertise and skills to accomplish the national aspiration. In addition, cooperation, collaboration and support from parent, school management, medical expert and community are significantly required. Abstrak Artikel  ini  merupakan kertas konsep  yang akan  membincangkan  mengenai peranan dan cabaran guru-guru Pendidikan Khas  dalam  membentuk  kemenjadian  murid-murid  masalah  pendengaran.  Ia  selaras  dengan  kehendak  Tranformasi Nasional  2050  (TN50)  yang  memberi  fokus  untuk  melahirkan  kemenjadian  murid  sebagai  salah  satu  aspirasi  untuk memacu negara  di  masa  akan  datang.    Dalam  membentuk  kemenjadian  murid,  pencapaian  akademik  yang  cemerlang bukanlah  merupakan  fokus  utama  tetapi  murid  perlu  dididik  secara  holistik  untuk  melahirkan  warga  negara  Malaysia yang  bertanggungjawab,  berpengetahuan,  berakhlak  dan  mampu  mencapai  kesejahteraan  diri.  Dalam  aspek  ini  murid-murid  masalah pendengaran  memerlukan pendidikan  yang sesuai    mengikut tahap kemampuan  mereka.  Justeru guru-guru  Pendidikan  Khas  perlu  mempersiapkan  diri  dengan  pelbagai  pengetahuan,  kepakaran  dan  kemahiran  untuk mencapai  aspirasi  negara.  Selain  itu,  kerjasama,  kolaborasi  dan  sokongan  daripada  ibu  bapa,  pentadbir  sekolah,  pakar perubatan dan masyarakat amat diperlukan.

The objective was to evaluate the QL of people with Down Syndrome (DS) using their self-perception (n = 39) and the perception of the informants (family members, teachers) (n = 39). The KidsLife-Down Scale, with a few modifications, was used. In general, differences of opinion between the subgroups of participants with DS and informants showed that results were higher in terms of perception for participants in the DS subgroup. Scores for all variables were higher for those participants with DS who said they did engage in practicing competitive football/soccer. Although the perception of informants provides a great deal of information regarding the QL of participants with DS, participants with DS should also be involved in the evaluation process and their self-perceptions taken into account. It is not participating in a football team that causes the conclusions of the study, but training (which includes the friendly matches that are played), the cause correlated with the improvements detected in the athlete’s DS.

Electric light in buildings may provide some health benefits; however, for most people these benefits are likely to be small. It is possible for electric lighting to cause health problems, if there is too little light or there is glare, but for the most part there is good guidance available and these problems can be avoided. The quality of the lit environment can have a psychological impact and this may in turn impact well-being. A starting point for this is perceived adequacy of illumination. Related lighting metrics are examined and a hypothetical explanation is suggested.

The purpose of this scoping review was to identify the family and child quality of life variables that have been studied in relation to one another in children with Down syndrome, the frequency with which different relationships have been studied, and the extent to which family variables were the focus of the research aims. A literature search was conducted to find studies published between January 2007 and June 2018. The initial search yielded 2314 studies; of these, 43 were selected for a final review. Researchers most often addressed family resources and family problem-solving and coping concerning child personal development and physical well-being. Little attention to child emotional well-being was observed, with none considering family appraisal of child emotional well-being. The relationship between family variables and child QoL rarely was the primary focus of the study. Methodologically, most reviewed studies used cross-sectional designs, were conducted in North America and based on maternal report. From future research considering the issues found in this review, healthcare providers can obtain an in-depth understanding of relationships between children and family variables.

Adolescence is a time of change and transition, specifically in the context of interpersonal relationships with significant adults in their lives. Adolescence is also a period in which vastly reflects growing psychological and emotional independence from adults and proximity and dependence to peers. Therefore, adolescents often must negotiate and establish relationships with adults under less than optimal conditions. Thus, nature and quality of relationship interactions between teachers and adolescents are fundamental to understanding adolescent psychosocial wellbeing. A particular concern lies with the adolescents who do not enjoy positive, supportive relationships with their teachers. Such adolescents are often at risk for academic and psychosocial problems. The present study explores Sri Lankan adolescents’ perceived relationship interactions with their teachers and its impact on their psychosocial wellbeing, using in depth interviews. The findings provide specific components pertaining to strong positive relationships such as empathy, warmth, sense of comfort, guidance, provision of financial assistance when in need and confidentiality. However, adolescents also mentioned teachers as figures detrimental to their wellbeing.

Depression cases have been reported among workers in the financial industries. Occupations in this industry are considered among the most stressful ones. This study aimed to examine the impact of depressive symptoms of financial workers in China on their productivity and well-being. A survey was conducted using a convenient sample of 1024 financial workers recruited from three large-scale financial organizations located in the north and south of China. The result of Hierarchical Regression Analyses shows that depressive symptoms of workers significantly impaired their work-life quality. Severity of depressive symptoms had significant positive relationships with three behavioral manifestations at works. These are, in order of decreasing effect size, turnover intention, presenteeism, and absenteeism. Specifically, depressive symptoms had a larger effect on presenteeism compared to absenteeism, which implies the unawareness or insufficient recognition of Chinese workers towards depression as an illness in comparison with other physical illnesses. Moreover, a Univariate Analysis was conducted to study the moderating effect of emotional labor on the relationship between the severity of depressive symptoms and presenteeism. An aggravating effect was found, displaying a greater damage of depressive symptoms to psychosocial functions of workers. Besides, depressive symptoms of workers also impaired their quality of life in aspects such as interpersonal relationships, life situation, and so on. This study provides evidence of impairments of depression in the workplace, urging the management to pay more attention to its employees' mental health no matter whether it is for the sake of the company's benefit or the employees' well-being.
