Youth is the most valuable asset of any developing country. Drug abuse is becoming a major problem among youth and has been an increasing concern for the Malaysian government. Literature alludes that the reasons for drugs consumption among youth have changed. Social pressure and the desire to be accepted by peers are among the current emerging trends surpassing domestic reasons, with minimal outside intervention such as family and home atmosphere as well as economic constraints. Out of 30,844 registered drug cases in Malaysia 10,610 are youth below 29 years old which is alarming. As the government prepares for the National Transformation Plan 2050 (TN50), issues related to drug abuse among youth is not only a concern for the government but also the community. TN50 sets a vision for the nation with an eye on the aspirations of the youth. To realise this vision, the community members including local organisations and institutions should establish a partnership in this social responsibility initiative of nurturing brilliant future leaders amongst the youth.  The community should be given the mandate to tackle social problems and become the avenue to help the government and safeguard society members. This article illuminates how CSR initiatives can be used to cultivate and nurture values in facing issues related to drugs abuse among the youth in Malaysia. This article aligned the three core components of Triple Bottom Line (TBL) elements (Planet, People and Profit) for gauging the implementation of CSR in this partnership.

This chapter explores Chinatown as an ephemeral site of visual indeterminacy in the 1870s by looking at a number of Californian Chinatown accounts in Helen Hunt Jackson’s “The Chinese Empire” (1878) and Mark Twain’s Roughing It (1872). Late-nineteenth-century Chinatown as an exhibitory locus of authentic Chinese-ness for Western tourists is paradoxically characterized by its mutability rather than realism. By examining the accounts of Jackson and Twain about the Chinese in the 1870s, the decade before the passing of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, the paper rethinks the “virtual” existence of Chinatown, its contested nature as a “phantasmatic site” for Western projections and visual consumption, which manifests the potential realization of national transformation in the mythic Orient of the new West.

The present paper aimed to identify the impact of the national transformation programs on the life of the Saudi woman. The paper was applied to a sample of (381) Saudi women. The results showed that the programs have changed the life of woman and contributed to woman empowerment. The most influential programs allowed the woman to drive a car, changed the regulations of civil affairs; travel documents and work, participation in decision-making, holding leading positions, and enacting laws against harassment, violence and abuse.  Moreover, there was a positive correlation between national transformation programs, which reinforce woman self-reliance, and improving life quality. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between national transformation programs and the woman’s increasing sense of satisfaction with the community, quality of life and enjoyment, as well as security. In addition, these programs maximized woman responsibilities, so she could hardly manage her time. Moreover, full-time jobs negatively affected her life and weakened her social relations.  The paper recommends providing the Saudi woman with adequate support to best fulfill her roles, implementing programs and initiatives that help cascade legal awareness, and increasing the adoption of STEM system, which integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics, to prepare Saudi women for future jobs.   Received: 15 December 2020 / Accepted: 31 January 2021 / Published: 5 March 2021

The purpose of this paper is to make a case for school leaders in rural schools in Nigeria to build effective engagements with their communities in improving school attendance rate.  The state of rural education in Nigeria has been a concern going by the fact that rural communities have the highest number of school dropouts and illiterate people. No country can make headway with a large army of illiterates and school dropouts because education is regarded as an instrument for national transformation. A good number of rural students do not show commitment towards attendance. While the government is often looked upon to address this issue, there seems to be limited focus on rural schools, especially the role of leadership, in addressing the challenge. Therefore, the paper proposes that rural school leaders should adopt a multi-actor approach in engaging their communities to mobilise both human and material resources in addressing poor student attendance and other school challenges associated with the problem. The paper also proposes an approach or a model of engagement.
