Germanium/germanium oxide nanoparticles with theoretically high discharge capacities of 1624 and 2152 mAh/g have attracted significant research interest for their potential application as anode materials in Li-ion batteries. However, these materials exhibit poor long-term performance due to the large volume change of 370% during charge/discharge cycles. In the present study, to overcome this shortcoming, a Ge/GeO2/graphene composite material was synthesized. Ge/GeO2 nanoparticles were trapped between matrices of graphene nanosheets to offset the volume expansion effect. Transmission electron microscopy images revealed that the Ge/GeO2 nanoparticles were distributed on the graphene nanosheets. Discharge/charge experiments were performed to evaluate the Li storage properties of the samples. The discharge capacity of the bare Ge/GeO2 nanoparticles in the first discharge cycle was considerably large; however, the value decreased rapidly with successive cycles. Conversely, the present Ge/GeO2/graphene composite exhibited superior cycling stability.

Graphene-based nanocomposites attract many attentions because of holding promise for many applications. In this work, multishelled NiO hollow spheres decorated by graphene nanosheets nanocomposite are successfully fabricated. The multishelled NiO microspheres are uniformly distributed on the surface of graphene, which is helpful for preventing aggregation of as-reduced graphene sheets. Furthermore, the NiO/graphene nanocomposite shows much higher electrochemical performance with a reversible capacity of 261.5 mAh g−1at a current density of 200 mA g−1after 100 cycles tripled compared with that of pristine multishelled NiO hollow spheres, implying the potential application in modern science and technology.

In this work, TiO2(B) nanotubes with uniform diameter were prepared by the simple route of hydrothermal synthesis, and graphene nanosheets were added to form TiO2(B)/graphene nanocomposites, the two kinds of materials were comparatively studied as anode materials. The morphology and crystal structure were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrochemical performance was evaluated by galvanostatic chargedischarge tests. The results show that the nanocomposite electrode material has good electrochemical performance due to the contributions of graphene. At the current density of 50mA/g, the capacity of TiO2(B)/graphene is 135.8 mAh/g, and the coulombic efficiency is 61.8%, after 10 charge-discharge cycles it still retains 113.2mAh/g . However, TiO2(B) anode reduces rapidly to 65.6 mAh/g.

The single crystalline V2O5nanowire/graphene nanosheets (GNS) composite has been successfully prepared via an easy and facile one-step hydrothermal synthesis method. The morphology, structure and electrochemical performance of V2O5nanowire/GNS composite as cathode material for lithium-ion batteries were systematically investigated by transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and a variety of electrochemical testing techniques. The V2O5single crystalline nanowires were supported on the GNS substrate and exhibited excellent electrochemical properties. When used as a cathode material of lithium-ion batteries, the composite material revealed high initial discharge capacities and exceptional rate capacities. It was found that V2O5nanowire/GNS composite exhibited a relatively high reversible capacity of 357 mA h g-1and fine cycle performance.
