In this study, the filled natural rubber (NR) was prepared with organic montmorillonite (OMMT) and carbon black (CB). The effects of the amount of OMMT on the properties of CB/NR composites were investigated by measuring the physical and mechanical properties, compression set and compression heat properties, processing properties and damping properties. The formulation was optimized depending on the different conditions of end applications and the damping properties of rubber were maximized without affecting the other properties of the rubber. The results showed that the rubber composite system filled with 2 phr (parts per hundreds of rubber) OMMT had better mechanical properties and excellent damping performance.

The physical and mechanical properties of Portland cement (PC) - natural rubber latex (NRL) - fly ash (FA) composites have been investigated. The latex per cement ratios that use in this experiment are 0, 5, 7.5 and 10% by weight of cement. Portland cement (PC) was partially replaced with fly ash 0-40% by weight of binder. Water to cement ratio were used in range of 0.305-0.385 (by weight not include water in latex). Nonionic surfactant was added in cement before mixed with natural rubber latex. In addition, to provide latex from natural rubber latex, the ammonia solution is added into natural rubber. The specimens were packing into an iron mold which sample size of 4x4x16 cm3. Moreover, the PC-NRL-FA composites were cured in water for 7 and 28 days at room temperature before measurement. Then, mechanical properties (flexural strength) and microstructure were studied.

This article demonstrates the one-pot reaction, an efficient and environmentally friendly organic synthesis method, utilized to prepare the silanized silica-encapsulated calcium carbonate@natural rubber composites (SSC@NR), following first mixing the calcium carbonate (CaCO3) solution, silica (SiO2) sol solution and a small amount of Si-69 solution, to modify the surface of CaCO3 particles, and then wet mixing with natural rubber latex. The obtained silanized silica-encapsulated calcium carbonate (SSC) particles were tested by TGA, FTIR and XRD, to substantiate the effect of surface modification. Moreover, the effects of the amount of SSC on the Mooney viscosity, curing characteristics, physical and mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical properties of the SSC@NR were investigated. The results show that the surface of modified CaCO3 is effectively coated with SiO2 particles by means of physical and chemical combination, to achieve the effect of surface coating. When the optimum amount of SSC filler is 40 phr, the SSC can form better physical adsorption and chemical combination with the NR molecular chains and can be evenly dispersed in the rubber matrix, resulting in the conspicuous improvement of physical and mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength, tear strength, elongation at break and abrasion resistance. Meanwhile, the compound with SSC has preferable processability and dynamic mechanical properties.

This research investigated the effect of accelerator/sulfur (ACC/S) ratio on mechanical properties and thermal resistance of natural rubber composites containing hybrid fillers. Two hybrid systems of 10/60 carbon black/calcium carbonate (CB/CC) and silica/calcium carbonate (SC/CC) in NR composites were focused and the different ACC/S ratios were 0.40, 0.56, 0.64 and 0.88. The results indicated that the crosslink density, hardness and tear strength of NR vulcanizates increased with increasing ACC/S ratio, whereas compression set decreased. However, tensile strength increased with increasing ACC/S ratio up to 0.64 and then it decreased when the ACC/S ratio is further increased. In addition, the vulcanizates with high ACC/S ratio, which mainly contained monosulfidic and disulfidic linkages, exhibited a greater thermal ageing resistance than that with low ACC/S ratio which contained polysulfidic linkage. Comparing in two hybrid filler systems, the reinforcement performance of CB/CC hybrid-filled is significantly higher for all ACC/S ratios investigated.

Abstract Silica and carbon black (CB) co-filled rubber composite was widely used for tire tread and other rubber products because of combined advantages of binary fillers, such as low hysteresis, good abrasion resistance, and reinforcement. Numerous studies have been focused on the filler–rubber interaction with the aim of obtaining optimum performances. To investigate the effect of modification on properties of rubber composite, modified silica and CB co-filled rubber composite was prepared with a multi-functional silane coupling agent, 2-aminoethyl-2-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)aminoethyl disulfide (ATD). Such modification significantly enhanced the filler–rubber interaction and improved the filler dispersion. For the modified composites, the state of cure, hardness, tensile strength before and after aging, stress at 300% elongation, tear strength, abrasion resistance, rebound resilience, compression set, temperature rise, and the value of dynamic loss coefficient ranging from −20°C to 80°C were significantly improved, especially with low ATD dosage (3.0 phr). This modification provides an effective route to prepare silica and CB co-filled rubber composites with improved mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical properties.
