The aim of this work was to investigate the corrosion inhibition effect of natural seaweeds in seawater on carbon steel. The corrosion efficiency of carbon steel in the absence and the presence of natural seaweeds in seawater was evaluated by the gravimetric method at room temperature and calculating the corrosion rate and protection degree. The experimental results showed that the corrosion rate on carbon steel decreased when the seaweeds were used. In addition, the value of protection degree (P) was greater than 60% when seaweeds were used. Natural seaweeds reduce the corrosion rate and can be considered an ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel.

The primary method used for boiler water treatment is the addition of chemicals to industrial boilers to prevent corrosion and scaling. The static scale inhibition method was used to evaluate the scale inhibition performance of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP). Autoclave static experiments were used to study the corrosion inhibition properties of the main material for industrial boilers (20# carbon steel) with an HEDP additive in the industrial boiler water medium. The electrochemical behavior of HEDP on carbon steel corrosion control was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization techniques. Experimental results indicate that HEDP can have a good scale inhibition effect when added at a quantity of 5 to 7 mg/L at a test temperature of not more than 100 °C. To achieve a high scale inhibition rate, the HEDP dosage must be increased when the test temperature exceeds 100 °C. Electrochemical and autoclave static experimental results suggest that HEDP has a good corrosion inhibition effect on 20# carbon steel at a concentration of 25 mg/L. HEDP is an excellent water treatment agent.

<p>This study aimed to analyze the effect of adding to the rate of steel corrosion inhibitor and comparing the rate of corrosion on steel pipes with and without inhibitors. The testing conducted in Puspitek shown that the most optimum inhibitor contained in the addition of 1% due to changes in the price of the original acidity (pH) from 7.30 to 11.80. This shows the increasing of pH occurred sizable value and followed by the declines of potential value (Ecorr) -700.53 mV to -512.39 mV. Thus, the  decreasing accured to the current corrosion value (Icorr) from 2.71 μA/cm2 to 0.31 μA/cm2, while the corrosion rate of carbon steel St 41 decreased most effective after adding 1% Na2CO3 as inhibitor, the corrosion rate is changed from 1.2437 mpy to 0.1427 mpy.</p>

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of two medicinal molecules phenylalanine and rutin on mild steel in 1.0M Hydrochloric acid were evaluated using gravimetric method. Corrosion inhibition efficiency of 83.78 and 90.40 % was obtained respectively after seven days. However, phenylalanine showed weak accumulative higher corrosion inhibition efficiency. The presence of both molecules in the corrosive environment reduced the corrosion rate constant and increased the material half-life. Thermodynamic data calculated suggests a spontaneous adsorption of the molecules on the mild steel’s surface.

In this paper, a corrosion inhibitor containing nitrogen atoms and a conjugated π bond was synthesised, and its final product synthesised by the optimal conditions of the orthogonal test results is named multi-mannich base (MBT). The corrosion inhibition effect on the N80 steel sheet of the corrosion inhibitor was evaluated in a CO2 saturated solution containing 3 wt % NaCl; the corrosion rate was 0.0446 mm/a and the corrosion inhibition rate was 90.4%. Through electrochemical and adsorption theory study, MBT is a mixed corrosion inhibitor that mainly shows cathode suppression capacity. The adsorption of MBT on the surface of the steel sheet follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm; it can be spontaneously adsorbed on the surface of the N80 steel sheet, which has a good corrosion inhibition effect. The surface of the N80 steel sheet was microscopically characterised by atomic force microscope (AFM). It can be seen from the results that the N80 steel sheet with MBT added is significantly different from the blank control group; the surface of the steel sheet is relatively smooth, indicating that MBT forms an effective protective film on the surface of N80 steel, which inhibits the steel sheet.

A new corrosion inhibior N,N-diethylammonium O,O-di (p-chlorophenyl) dithiophosphate (EDPDP) has been synthesized and its inhibition effect towards the corrosion of carbon steel in 1.0 molL-1 HCl solution at 25 °C has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. The obtained results show that EDPDP is a excellent inhibitor and the inhibition efficiencies exceed 90 %. The polarization measurements reveal that EDPDP is a mixed type inhibitor and the equivalent circuit model of the corrosion inhibition process is obtained by the analysis of EIS data.

Inhibition effect of Costusafer on mild steel in 0.5 M HCl was studied using gravimetric method at room temperature. It was found out that Costusafer inhibited the corrosion of mild steel in the acidic environment and that the efficiency of inhibition increased as the concentration of the inhibitor in the environment increased. The data was used to test different isotherms and it suited the Langmuir isotherm. A value of -15.995 kJmol-1 was gotten for the ∆Goads. This value showed that the extracts of Costusafer inhibited the corrosion process through physiosorption mechanism. The high value of inhibition efficiency of the extract as the concentration increased in rationalized in terms of the increase in herteroatoms, saponnins and tannins which are present in the extract.

The effect of hydrazine, N2H4 in the presence of fatty amide as corrosion inhibitor on corrosion of carbon steel in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was studied by linear polarization resistance method (LPRM) at room temperature and static condition. The specimens’ surface analysis was done using atomic force microscope (AFM). The inhibition efficiency improved to more than 80% when 500, 100 and 2000 ppm of hydrazine were added to the inhibited solution containing 20 ppm fatty amide. The results obtained show that the inhibition effect is increased with increase of hydrazine concentration in inhibited solution. It indicates that hydrazine retards the reduction of oxygen in the corrosion process by reacting with dissolved oxygen in the solution and thus, further it reduces the corrosion rate of carbon steel.

The effect of aqueous extract of UAE Neem (Azadirachta Indica) on the corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution was investigated electrochemically, and by weight-loss experiments at temperatures ranging from 303 to 343 K. The percentage inhibition increased with the increase of the concentration of the inhibitor. At a concentration of 2.0 g/L, the percentage inhibition reached about 87% at room temperature and 80% at 303 K. The percentage inhibition decreased with the increase of temperature. The thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption of this inhibitor on the metal surface were calculated using the Temkin adsorption isotherm. The aqueous Neem leaves extract was found to be an excellent potential corrosion inhibitor because of the high content of tannin content as well as the presence of a series of complex triterpene glycosides.
