The Internet of Things (IoT) is a recent evolutionary technology that has been the primary focus of researchers for the last two decades. In the IoT, an enormous number of objects are connected together using diverse communications protocols. As a result of this massive object connectivity, a search for the exact service from an object is difficult, and hence the issue of scalability arises. In order to resolve this issue, the idea of integrating the social networking concept into the IoT, generally referred as the Social Internet of Things (SIoT) was introduced. The SIoT is gaining popularity and attracting the attention of the research community due to its flexible and spacious nature. In the SIoT, objects have the ability to find a desired service in a distributed manner by using their neighbors. Although the SIoT technique has been proven to be efficient, heterogeneous devices are growing so exponentially that problems can exist in the search for the right object or service from a huge number of devices. In order to better analyze the performance of services in an SIoT domain, there is a need to impose a certain set of rules on these objects. Our novel contribution in this study is to address the link selection problem in the SIoT by proposing an algorithm that follows the key properties of navigability in small-world networks, such as clustering coefficients, path lengths, and giant components. Our algorithm empowers object navigability in the SIoT by restricting the number of connections for objects, eliminating old links or having fewer connections. We performed an extensive series of experiments by using real network data sets from social networking sites like Brightkite and Facebook. The expected results demonstrate that our algorithm is efficient, especially in terms of reducing path length and increasing the average clustering coefficient. Finally, it reflects overall results in terms of achieving easier network navigation. Our algorithm can easily be applied to a single node or even an entire network.

Recently the fast-growing business of the Internet are Online Social networking services, Online Social networking sites also become the most popular sites. In order to establish future social network which is optimized, and to eventually exploit the user base for commercial purposes, in-depth understanding the social characteristic of these networks is important. In this paper, we present a large-scale measurement study and analysis on the social structure of YouKu. Our results validate the power-law, small-world and clustering coefficient properties, present the correlation and difference among four centrality properties. Finally we discuss the utilization of these structural properties for the commercial purposes.

Internet of Things (IoT) has been at the center of attention among researchers for the last two decades. Their aim was to convert each real-world object into a virtual object. Recently, a new idea of integrating the Social Networking concept into the Internet of Things has merged and is gaining popularity and attention in the research society due to its vast and flexible nature. It comprises of the potential to provide a platform for innovative applications and network services with efficient and effective manners. In this paper, we provide the sustenance for the Social Internet of Things (SIoT) paradigm to jump to the next level. Currently, the SIoT technique has been proven to be efficient, but heterogeneous smart devices are growing exponentially. This can develop a problematic scenario while searching for the right objects or services from billions of devices. Small world phenomena have revealed some interesting facts and motivated many researchers to find the hidden links between acquaintances in order to reach someone across the world. The contribution of this research is to integrate the SIoT paradigm with the small world concept. By integrating the small world properties in SIoT smart devices, we empower the Smart Social Agent (SSA). The Smart Social Agent ensures the finding of appropriate friends (i.e., the IoT devices used by our friend circle) and services that are required by the user, without human intervention. The Smart Social Agent can be any smart device in SIoTs, e.g., mobile phones.

This paper sought to investigate the social economic variables as determinants of preferred social networking sites by International Students of Eastern Mediterranean University in North Cyprus. Social Networking Sites (SNS) platforms are gradually replacing the known, traditional means of communication as a result of new improved communication systems.The application of Social Networking Sites in our present generation is inevitable due to its efficiency and capability of connecting the whole globe in a second.These Social Networking Sites have made great contribution towards socio-cultural and economic development thereby re-ordering the world and making it a global village. Two platforms are considered in this research; Facebook and Instagram to know the right prediction based on the demography of users.  The research design is survey, while questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. Uses and Gratifications Theory is adopted as theoretical framework. Using SPSS for the analysis, the CHAID method with the help of a tree diagram shows that some of the demographic factors are better predictors of social media platforms when it comes to communication with specific places.

With the increased use of Social Networking Sites and Apps (SNSAs) in Saudi Arabia, it is important to consider the impact of this on the social lives of tertiary students, who are heavy users of such technology. A mixed methods study exploring the effect of SNSAs use on the social capital of Saudi postgraduate students was conducted using a multidimensional construct of social capital, which included the components of life satisfaction, social trust, civic participation, and political engagement. Data were collected through surveys and interviews involving 313 male and 293 female postgraduate students from Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) in Makkah. Findings show that male and female participants perceived SNSAs use impacting all components of social capital at a moderate and mainly positive level. Correlational analysis demonstrated medium to large positive correlations among components of social capital. Gender differences were not evident in the life satisfaction and social trust components; however, females reported more involvement with SNSAs for the purposes of political engagement while males reported more use for civic participation, which is an interesting finding, in light of the norms and traditional culture of Saudi society.

This paper describes the usage of Instagram (the social networking platform) in sophomore English classes at a private Japanese university. Instagram was used to help students prepare for their study abroad semester. Students created private Instagram accounts and used this platform for group exercises with a mixed group of students and staff at potential study abroad sites in the United States of America. The participants posted images and video of their daily lives and routines at their schools, and created posts based on tasks set by the instructor. Group members were then encouraged to ask each other questions and communicate through Instagram. The study found that Instagram usage has the potential to help students prepare linguistically and culturally for study abroad semesters. The paper recommends follow-up studies that use Instagram and other social networking sites to help students prepare culturally and linguistically for study abroad semesters. This has implications for language teachers who are teaching prospective study abroad students or are interested in incorporating technology into their classes, as well as coordinators of study abroad programs interested in modernizing their study abroad orientation programs. この論文では、日本の私立大学の 2 年生の英語クラスでの Instagram(SNS)の使 用法について説明します。 Instagram は、学生が留学の準備をするのを助けるため に使用されました。学生はプライベート Instagram アカウントを作成し、このプラ ットフォームを使用して、米国の潜在的な留学サイトで学生とスタッフの混合グル ープとのグループ演習を行いました。参加者は、学校での日常生活の画像や動画を 投稿し、講師が設定したタスクに基づいて投稿を作成しました。その後、グループ のメンバーはお互いに質問し、Instagram を介してコミュニケーションすることが 奨励されました。調査では、Instagram の使用により、学生が留学学期に向けて言 語的および文化的に準備するのに役立つ可能性があることがわかりました。この論 文では、Instagram やその他の SNS を使用して、学生が留学に向けて文化的および 言語的に準備するのに役立つ追跡調査を推奨しています。これは、将来の留学学生 を教えている、またはクラスにテクノロジーを組み込むことに関心のある語学教 師、および留学オリエンテーションプログラムの近代化に関心のある留学プログラ ムのコーディネーターに影響を及ぼします。
