The indoor application of wave propagation in the 5G network is essential to fulfill the increasing demands of network access in an indoor environment. This study investigated the wave propagation properties of line-of-sight (LOS) links at two long corridors of Chosun University (CU). We chose wave propagation measurements at 3.7 and 28 GHz, since 3.7 GHz is the closest to the roll-out frequency band of 3.5 GHz in South Korea and 28 GHz is next allocated frequency band for Korean telcos. In addition, 28 GHz is the promising millimeter band adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the 5G network. Thus, the 5G network can use 3.7 and 28 GHz frequencies to achieve the spectrum required for its roll-out frequency band. The results observed were applied to simulate the path loss of the LOS links at extended indoor corridor environments. The minimum mean square error (MMSE) approach was used to evaluate the distance and frequency-dependent optimized coefficients of the close-in (CI) model with a frequency-weighted path loss exponent (CIF), floating-intercept (FI), and alpha–beta–gamma (ABG) models. The outcome shows that the large-scale FI and CI models fitted the measured results at 3.7 and 28 GHz.

Wireless Sensor Networks have highly proved its contribution in precision agriculture. Communication channel modelling investigation is a highly demanded to achieve a successful communication system where a good wave propagation model is crucially needed. Precision agriculture degrades the traveling waves in various forms in addition to the effects of the large-scale path losses models. This paper reviews the most known theoretical large-scale path losses models such as free space (FSPL) and Plane earth (PE) models as well as the vegetation models represented by Weissberger, ITU-R, FITU-R and COS235 models. Indeed, this work illustrates the effects of many factors on the total path losses such as separation distance between transceivers, antenna heights and the depth of vegetation that presence in the path propagation. In conclusion, the total path loss is computed based on large-scale path losses and the vegetation losses in protected vegetation environment.

In this paper, we estimate the uplink performance of large-scale multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) networks. By applying minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) detection, a novel statistical distribution of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for any user is derived, for path loss, shadowing and Rayleigh fading. Suppose that the channel state information is perfectly known at the base station. Then, we derive the analytical expressions for the pairwise error probability (PEP) of the massive multiuser MMSE–MIMO systems, based on which we further obtain the upper bound of the bit error rate (BER). The analytical results are validated successfully through simulations for all cases.

AbstractTaking the mobile edge computing paradigm as an effective supplement to the vehicular networks can enable vehicles to obtain network resources and computing capability nearby, and meet the current large-scale increase in vehicular service requirements. However, the congestion of wireless networks and insufficient computing resources of edge servers caused by the strong mobility of vehicles and the offloading of a large number of tasks make it difficult to provide users with good quality of service. In existing work, the influence of network access point selection on task execution latency was often not considered. In this paper, a pre-allocation algorithm for vehicle tasks is proposed to solve the problem of service interruption caused by vehicle movement and the limited edge coverage. Then, a system model is utilized to comprehensively consider the vehicle movement characteristics, access point resource utilization, and edge server workloads, so as to characterize the overall latency of vehicle task offloading execution. Furthermore, an adaptive task offloading strategy for automatic and efficient network selection, task offloading decisions in vehicular edge computing is implemented. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves the overall task execution performance and reduces the time overhead of task offloading.

AbstractSparse-aware (SA) detectors have attracted a lot attention due to its significant performance and low-complexity, in particular for large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Similar to the conventional multiuser detectors, the nonlinear or compressive sensing based SA detectors provide the better performance but are not appropriate for the overdetermined multiuser MIMO systems in sense of power and time consumption. The linear SA detector provides a more elegant tradeoff between performance and complexity compared to the nonlinear ones. However, the major limitation of the linear SA detector is that, as the zero-forcing or minimum mean square error detector, it was derived by relaxing the finite-alphabet constraints, and therefore its performance is still sub-optimal. In this paper, we propose a novel SA detector, named single-dimensional search-based SA (SDSB-SA) detector, for overdetermined uplink MIMO systems. The proposed SDSB-SA detector adheres to the finite-alphabet constraints so that it outperforms the conventional linear SA detector, in particular, in high SNR regime. Meanwhile, the proposed detector follows a single-dimensional search manner, so it has a very low computational complexity which is feasible for light-ware Internet of Thing devices for ultra-reliable low-latency communication. Numerical results show that the the proposed SDSB-SA detector provides a relatively better tradeoff between the performance and complexity compared with several existing detectors.
