Although the concept of sustainable development has made certain achievements in many fields, airport sustainability (AS) has not yet formed a unified and comprehensive theory and evaluation method. According to the connotation of sustainable development, this paper proposes the definition of airport sustainability by considering China’s national conditions and airport characteristics. Secondly, this paper identifies four AS dimensions of economy, environment, society, and operation and selects and screens evaluation indicators for each dimension. Thirdly, a synthetic evaluation index model of AS is constructed based on the benefit of the doubt (BoD) model, and the process of evaluation method is planned according to a synthetic evaluation method. Finally, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is selected as a case study to evaluate the AS from 2008 to 2017, and the influencing factors of AS are discussed to predict AS in 2018. The evaluation and prediction results are consistent with the actual operational characteristics of CAN.

In order to clarify the comprehensive operational capabilities of the airport and better plan the sustainable development mode of the airport, this paper studies the evaluation method of airport environmental carrying capacity. First, this paper proposes the concept of airport environmental carrying capacity by taking into account the complex characteristics of airports affected by multiple factors and then selects 16 representative evaluation indicators to construct an indicator system based on the Driving Force-Pressure-State-Response (DPSR) framework. Finally, the accelerated genetic algorithm-projection pursuit model is established to model a comprehensive evaluation index, which is used to calculate the airport environmental carrying capacity (AECC). The results of the case study show that the AECC of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) decreased year by year from 2008 to 2017, which is in line with the coordinated development level of CAN. By analysing the changing mechanism of AECC and indicators, we get 6 key influencing indicators that led to the continuous decline of AECC and put forward some political suggestions to improve the AECC.

Historic districts represent an important characteristic of Beijing and are also a crucial carrier of Chinese historic culture. However, they are significantly affected by the rapid urban constructions. Thus, it is of great significance to maintain and promote the public space in historic districts. This paper uses a multisource data superposition method to select the evaluation index of public space. The AHP was also used to complete the single-level and total-level ranking and calculation of evaluation indexes. Finally, based on the DEA model, a vitality evaluation model of Beijing historic district public spaces was developed and its validity was verified through a case study of the Wanping historic district.

Following electrification of automotive transport, studies on the penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) are widespread, especially in defined contexts. As major transport hubs, airports fall within contexts worthy of interest. In this work, a forecast of the demand for electric mobility in an Italian international airport (Rome–Fiumicino) is presented. The main goal of the research is to build up a methodology that allows evaluating the penetration index of EVs that will access the airport parks in 2025 and 2030, to be able to have a preliminary assessment of the number of charging points necessary for serving them. In the paper, first, a wide review of proposed scenarios on the penetration of EVs at international and national level and available data on local automotive transport are presented, as a preliminary study for the definition of reference scenarios for the local context. Then, the proposed methodology is presented and applied to the specific case study. Finally, a preliminary sizing of the required charging infrastructure is reported. The results show that a significant impact on the airport electricity network can be foreseen, and it requires proper planning of adaptation/upgrading actions. The proposed approach can be considered as a reference for similar studies on electrical mobility in other airport areas around the world.

Commonly used GIS combination operators such as Boolean conjunction/disjunction and weighted linear combination can be generalized to the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) family of operators. This multicriteria evaluation method allows decision-makers to define a decision strategy on a continuum between pessimistic and optimistic strategies. Recently, OWA has been introduced to GIS-based decision support systems. We propose to extend a previous implementation of OWA with linguistic quantifiers to simplify the definition of decision strategies and to facilitate an exploratory analysis of multiple criteria. Abstract. Water resources are not only basic natural resources, but also strategic economic resources and ecological control factors. Water resources carrying capacity constrains the sustainable development of regional economy and society. Studies of water resources carrying capacity can provide helpful information about how the socioeconomic system is both supported and restrained by the water resources system. Based on the research of different scholars, major problems in the study of water resources carrying capacity were summarized as follows: the definition of water resources carrying capacity is not yet unified; the methods of carrying capacity quantification based on the definition of inconsistency are poor in operability; the current quantitative research methods of water resources carrying capacity did not fully reflect the principles of sustainable development; it is difficult to quantify the relationship among the water resources, economic society and ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a better quantitative evaluation method to determine the regional water resources carrying capacity. This paper proposes a new approach to quantifying water resources carrying capacity (that is, through the compilation of the water resources balance sheet) to get a grasp of the regional water resources depletion and water environmental degradation (as well as regional water resources stock assets and liabilities), figure out the squeeze of socioeconomic activities on the environment, and discuss the quantitative calculation methods and technical route of water resources carrying capacity which are able to embody the substance of sustainable development.

Sustainable development is a hot issue under the current background of resources and environmental crises. In this paper, Liaocheng City's sustainable development level is evaluated by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. It is concluded that Liaocheng City's sustainable development level turned out to be moderate. The constraints of Liaocheng City's sustainable development are sustainable development awareness isn't formed and some problems are serious. Trains of thought include: strengthen sustainable development concept's understanding, strengthen capacity-building of improving sustainable development level and solve sustainable development practices' current problems.

The recession 2008-2009 which influenced the World economy has set new challenges for the development of the European construction sector. In the years 2008–2009 a great number of countries faced serious production and employment breakdowns. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the construction sector from a macroeconomic point of view by comparing construction market variations appeared during the crisis in twenty European countries. Therefore statistical indicators of the construction sector were used and a multiobjective evaluation method under the name of MULTIMOORA was employed. However these traditional indicators of the construction sector deliver an incomplete definition of real situations within the sector as during the recession plenty of constructed buildings remained unsold. Therefore the authors of this article propose a rather complex comparison of construction indicators for different European countries. The case study provides the analysis and calculations performed with the help of the MULTIMOORA method. This method enables the evaluation of European countries in accordance with the investigated objectives and ranges them into different groups according to the objectives set for the construction sector.

The implemented performance of enterprise’s patent strategy is an important component to measure its comprehensive benefits. It is of strategic significance for an enterprise to evaluate objectively its implemented performance of patent strategy. From the perspective of sustainable development, according to the 4 aspects of creation, application, protection and management of patent, the essay constitutes preliminarily a comprehensive evaluation index system of the implemented performance of enterprise’s patent strategy which is composed of a set of 21 indexes on the basis of an amount of domestic and foreign literature survey, case study and expert consultation, and analyzes the evaluation model and method of implemented performance of enterprise’s patent strategy with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and through a real case. The essay thinks the constitution of evaluation index system should obey a series of basic principles of objectivity, systematization, science and conciseness and the evaluation in essence is multi-object, multi-factor and multi-layer. Therefore, it is effective and feasible to select the Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation method.

Higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly confronted with societal needs beyond research and teaching. These include sustainable development and technology transfer as well as the practical application of knowledge and ideas. Several HEIs already put sustainable development and transfer into practice. These practitioner–university partnerships comprise a broad range of actors, disciplines, topics, and formats. However, transfer activities that contribute to sustainable development in society still make up only a very small part of HEIs’ activities. In response to calls from society as a whole, HEIs could combine transfer and sustainable development more systematically. In this article, we suggest a concept of transfer for sustainable development. The focus is on sustainability transfer in teaching. We used mixed methods for this conceptual work: exploratory workshops, expert interviews, and a case study of transfer in teaching. One of the results presented in this article is a working definition of sustainability transfer at HEIs. In addition, six characteristics for describing sustainability transfer in its various forms are formulated. This conceptualization makes it possible to analyze the diversity of HEIs’ sustainability transfer activities, it helps to identify and encourage potential transfer actors at HEIs as well as practitioners, and, thus, tap the full potential of sustainability transfer.
