The purpose of this research is to examine whether eum-taek, a feng shui theory for the dead, can be applied to Korean modern architecture. In the first step, common environmental factors that are valued in both feng shui and ecological architecture were derived, and then this research reviewed how properly the traditional site assessment method evaluated them; for example, metaphorized basic concepts of the evaluation theory based on territorial settings can be applied to evaluate common environmental factors. For the second step, this paper reviewed whether the evaluation method for feng shui presented in the previous step was applied equally between yang-taek and eum-taek theories, investigated the differences between them in general, and derived environmental factors to be utilized for evaluation in the field of architecture. As a result, it was found that the major concepts presented in the previous step have been commonly used evaluation criteria, regardless of the categories from traditional theories. The third step was to simulate whether sites selected by each theory actually have similar environmental conditions. The simulation analysis found that all analysis sites were able to obtain a higher sun exposure time than the Korean average; therefore, it was considered that their locations could have environmental advantage, in terms of solar radiation and thermal environment. The simulation results confirm that the target sites have a living environment that would be easy for humans to live in. Finally, the simulation results confirm that the eum-taek site has a living environment that is comfortable for humans to live in. If studies of the site assessment method are carried out considering yang-taek and eum-taek with different evaluation categories, the modern applicability of feng shui may increase.

The purpose of this study is to verify whether the score on warmth corresponds to the actual rating of subjects with regard to thermal comfort and satisfaction. Experiments were carried out in an experimental house in a climate chamber under five different thermal conditions, in which different combinations of air and floor temperatures were controlled by floor heating or air-conditioning systems. Twenty-four subjects rated their thermal sens2ation and satisfaction in each condition, and evaluated the thermal environment on a 100-point scale. The results of this experiment are as follows. It was suggested that score on warmth based on operative temperature and floor temperature more appropriately evaluates the living environment in Japan than the Predicted Mean Vote model, which assumes uniformity of the thermal environment. The score on warmth is considered a useful thermal environment index, which evaluates the comfort and satisfaction of residential houses in Japan. The score on warmth was 2.8 points when the percentage of comfort rating was more than 80%, and was 3.0 points when the percentage was more than 90%. In conclusion, these results show that it is possible to predict the risk of catching a cold in winter using the score on warmth.

An intelligent evaluation method is presented to analyze the competitiveness of airlines. From the perspective of safety, service, and normality, we establish the competitiveness indexes of traffic rights and the standard sample base. The self-organizing mapping (SOM) neural network is utilized to self-organize and self-learn the samples in the state of no supervision and prior knowledge. The training steps of high convergence speed and high clustering accuracy are determined based on the multistep setting. The typical airlines index data are utilized to verify the effect of the self-organizing mapping neural network on the airline competitiveness analysis. The simulation results show that the self-organizing mapping neural network can accurately and effectively classify and evaluate the competitiveness of airlines, and the results have important reference value for the allocation of traffic rights resources.

Abstract Background From early life children are exposed to a multitude of environmental exposures, which may be of crucial importance for a healthy development. Here, the environmental microbiota may be of particular interest as it represents the interface between environmental factors and the child. As infants in modern societies spend a considerable amount of time indoors, we hypothesize that the indoor bed dust microbiota might be an important factor for the child and for the colonization of the early airway microbiome. To explore this hypothesis, we analysed the influence of environmental exposures on 577 dust samples from children’s beds (age 6 months) together with 542 airway samples (age 3 months) from the Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood 2010 cohort. Results The bed dust and airway microbiota were both profiled with bacterial amplicon sequencing while also fungal community was profiled from bed dust. Bacterial and fungal diversity in the dust was positively correlated. We observed that bacterial bed dust microbiota was influenced by multiple environmental factors, such as type of home (house or apartment), rural or urban living environment and pets (cat and/or dog), whereas fungal bed dust microbiota was majorly influenced by the sampling season. We further observed minor associations between bed dust and airway microbiota compositions among infants, but no evidence of transfer of individual taxa between the two departments. Conclusions Our finding demonstrate that bed dust microbiota is influenced by environmental exposures and could represent an interface between environment and child.

Pay attention to the home living environment of low-and middle-income groups, study the user-centered design evaluation method to guide the design of home chairs suitable for low-and middle-income groups. Introducing Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)into home chairs’ design evaluation, it establishes a different layer and different elements structure model based on sensory experience, behavioral experience, emotional experience and economic experience from the point of user experience. Scoring each element, it calculates and determines the weight value of every element, and forms an evaluation method of home chairs for low-and middle-income Groups. Using the method to evaluate the design schemes of 3 home chairs, it obtains the optimal scheme. Then, surveying the market sales data to verify the accuracy of the result. The evaluation method consists of four major elements: sensory experience(B1), 27%; behavior experience(B2), 41%; emotional experience(B3), 10%; economic experience(B4), 22%. The method can effectively solve the complex comparison of multiple elements in design evaluation and provide a comprehensive method combining qualitative and quantitative methods for product design, and provides reference for products design and evaluation of the same type

Recently the planning of green infrastructure (GI) has become a general practice around metropolis (Paris, München, Budapest, etc). A complex methodology is required that goes beyond the scope of traditional green surface systems. However, there are various policy implications in the EU, the smaller towns are lagging to apply them. The paper presents a potential evaluation method through the case study of Keszthely, HU. As Keszthely at Balaton Riviera, is a popular touristic target of CEE, the environmental planning is an essential part of sustainable development. After a literature analyses of assessment methods of GI and ecosystem services, the aspects of GI have been valued on grade scales, based on field surveys and indicators. The current status of the GI was surveyed which is a base for further development and monitoring activities. The paper introduces the methodology, which contributes to preservation of ecosystems.

Abstract Traditional civil aviation security check measures are focused on baggage rather than passengers. The goal of this study is to enhance the level and effectiveness of security measures. We propose an anomalous behavior detection technique for civil aviation passengers and a passenger risk-assessment method based on a neural network method. A large number of real cases were analyzed and summarized to extract indicators of anomalous behavior of civil aviation passengers, and an index system was developed to detect anomalous behavior of passengers at checkpoints. A neural network method was used to evaluate the passengers and classify the risk level to detect potentially dangerous personnel, monitor people, and create an emergency warning system. The synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE), the conjugate gradient method, and a multilayer perceptron neural network were used to classify the risk level of passengers at checkpoints. The results demonstrated that the proposed index system and evaluation method were well suited to deal with the ambiguity and uncertainty in the recognition process. The anomalous behavior of civil aviation passengers at checkpoints and the associated threat level were accurately identified.
