Landfill landslide is a man-made event that occurs when poorly managed garbage mounds at landfills collapse. It has become common in recent decades due to the rising waste volumes in cities. Normally, it is a complex process involving many disaster-causing factors and composed by many sequential sub-events. However, most current studies treat the landslide as a single and independent event and cannot give a full picture of the disaster. We propose a disaster chain analysis framework for landfill landslide in terms of scenario simulation and chain-cutting modeling. Each stage of the landfill landslide is modeled by taking advantage of various advanced techniques, e.g., remote sensing, 3DGIS, non-Newtonian fluid model, central finite difference scheme, and agent-base steering model. The 2015 Shenzhen “1220” landslide was firstly reviewed to summarize the general disaster chain model for landfill landslide. Guided by this model, we then proposed the specific steps for landfill landslide disaster chain analysis and applied them to another undergoing landfill, i.e., Xinwuwei landfill in Shenzhen, China. The scenario simulation in this landfill provides suggestions on potential hazardous risks and some applicable treatments. Through chain-cutting modeling, we further validated the effectiveness and feasibility of these treatments. The most optimized solution is subsequently deduced, which can provide support for disaster prevention and mitigation for this landfill.

Their discussion takes place in the context of a case study, that of Current TV, in order to illustrate in practice the opportunities and implications for the content producers, the broadcasters, and the viewers themselves.

This primary goal of this study is to facilitate robust strategic decision- making regarding current and future deployment of microalgae-based CO2 capture technology. Based on Porter’s value-chain theory, a chain of activities that are common to all businesses are divided into primary and support activities. This study then attempts designs a microalgae-based CO2 capture value-chain model. This model shows that value drivers of microalgae-based CO2 capture, benefit markedly economic development. According to this value-chain model, one can choose a suitable strategy that to increases economic value. The microalgae-based CO2 capture value chain is a practical task in the development of microalgae-based CO2 capture technologies for thermal power plants. This value- chain model will guide investments and inform deployment decisions for microalgae-based CO2 capture technologies.

As a “starting zone” and “amplifier” of global climate change, the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is very responsive to climate change. The global temperature rise has led directly to an acceleration of glacial melting in the plateau and various glacier avalanche disasters have frequently occurred. The landslide caused by glacier avalanches will damage the surrounding environment, causing secondary disasters and a disaster chain effect. Take the disaster chain of the Yarlung Zangbo River at Milin County in Tibet on 17 and 29 October 2018 as an example; a formation mechanical model was proposed. The evolution mechanism for the chain of events is as follows: glacial melt → loose moraine deposit → migration along the steep erosion groove resulting in glacier clastic deposition then debris flow → formation of the dam plug to block the river → the dammed lake. This sequence of events is of great significance for understanding the developmental trends for future avalanches, landslides, and river blocking dam disasters, and for disaster prevention planning and mitigation in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau.

Value chain analysis is an important tool to assess and enhance the performance of agribusiness. This paper analyzes the empirical application of a conceptual framework known as the Rural Web to evaluate the socioeconomic complexity of a specific agribusiness value chain. This can be used as a complementary approach to traditional value chain analysis. The proposed framework goes beyond linear descriptions of product flows and examines how supply chains are built, shaped and reproduced over time and space, while considering social, cultural, environmental and political aspects. The results demonstrate that the proposed framework is a suitable method for value chain analysis, principally for those whose early stages are based on small and medium-sized rural actors. The Rural Web analysis offers decision-makers a platform to identify key actors not traditionally considered in value chain analysis, as well as the social interrelationships that occur at different dimensions. It also enables the identification of corrective and preventive measures to enhance agribusiness value chains.

The paper offers argument-based provisions in the application of value chain analysis for making effective decisions on strategic cost management of light industry enterprises, revealing the essence of the value chain concept as well as its specifics in the light industry sector. The key steps in value chain creation for light industry enterprises are suggested along with identifying the methods to gain competitive advantages for enterprises of consumer goods industry. Corporate strategy implications to increase profits are provided. The value chain components for core activities of light industry enterprises are demonstrated. The study also presents a clear methodology to increase profits in the context of value chain model application. The case of the return on assets per unit of light industry output together with profit creation within the value chain is discussed. A matrix of the correlation of market size expansion and market share is displayed.
