The two hypotheses formulated to address the research questions and objectives raised in this study were analysed with Categorical Regression, which is also known as CATREG analysis. This study applied survey research design and the data were spawned via designed questionnaire. An overall of 215 copies of the questionnaires were regained from the student of the private university in Ogun State. Multi-stage sampling methods were engaged in this study. The research findings of this study show that mechanic clues significantly influence students’ retention, while humanic clues significantly influence students’ disposition to endorse the institution of higher education to others. As part of the recommendations of the study, it was suggested that the university management should deliberately focus on mechanic clues in terms of providing a conducive environment, especially one that is clean for its students at all times.

The development of the personal potential of academic staff and higher education applicants as an integrated criterion for the effectiveness and efficiency of university management is substantiated in the article. To give ground to his position, the author proceeded from determination of the effectiveness and efficiency of university activities. The effectiveness of university activities is defined as the degree of compliance with the result secured by the goal it pursued. The efficiency of university activities is a qualitative indicator that determines the degree of use of resources (human, material, financial, etc.) in achieving a particular result. Methodological incorrectness of determination of efficiency of university activities by formal criteria is emphasized. In particular, the diploma of higher education regardless of the level of competence and development of the personal potential of its owner. The impossibility of correct differentiation in the value expression of the results of educational and scientific activities of the university is proved. The necessity of defining and substantiating alternative criteria that would orient the management to ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the higher education institution is kept current. In case of incorrect appeal to quantitative criteria, it is suggested for the management to focus on evaluation of criteria in determining the results of university activities. Assessment scales of such relevance are recommended. They should guide the management of a higher education institution to improve the activities. At the same time, the improvement of results should be achieved not at any cost of resources, but at the minimum permissible without deteriorating their quality. It is noted that only with the use of such methodological approach the efficiency of the university's activity as a guarantee of its competitiveness can increase. The competitiveness of the university is proposed to be considered as an integrated indicator of corporate competence of all participants of its activities, including managers, academic staff and applicants for higher education. It is emphasized that unlike other resources that are inevitably spent, human resources in the process of their use are self-renewing and developing. Self-renewal and the development of human resources or human capital are better the more developed the personal potential of university participants is. In addition, the level of development of the personal potential of higher education applicants is the current and final result of the university's educational activities. The more advanced personal potential the university graduates have, the more productive they will be in their careers, therefore, more expensive in terms of value and vice versa. After all, the more productive persons with higher education, the more productive the society in which they work is and the more prosperous life in such a society is. In its turn, the development of the personal potential of higher education applicants in the learning process depends directly on the level of personal capacity development of the academic staff with whom they interact. Not only the effectiveness of educational but also scientific activities depends on the personal potential of academic staff.

This paper presents a research on students’ attitudes towards the use of Wikipedia in teaching. The sample was comprised of students from the Pedagogical Faculty in Vranje, a higher education institution affiliated with the University of Niš, Serbia. Students were assigned to write articles on Wikipedia as an alternative to writing their standard term papers. That way the Wikipedia content became significantly enriched. They positively evaluated Wikipedia as a teaching tool. The results confirmed that students preferred creating articles on Wikipedia to writing standard term papers. Those results may contribute significantly to further improvement and modernization of university teaching.

This article reports on the findings of a study undertaken to establish practices and challenges to academic publishing at a higher education institution in Ethiopia. A descriptive survey design was employed and con- -venience and purposive sampling were used to select the sample. The data were gathered by means of a questionnaire with closed- and open-ended questions and were analysed using descriptive and thematic analysis. The results show that, despite the benefits of publishing, not all academics in the university are publishing in local and international journals due to a number of challenges. These include a lack of commitment and motivation, lack of experience and exposure to publishing, and inadequate information, knowledge and skills to access accredited journals. Academics also suffer from work overload, a lack of support from the university to publish, and challenges emanating from journals themselves. It is recommended thatthe university, the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education and other relevant stakeholders should collaborate to address this situation. Key words: academics, academic publishing, higher education institution, challenges, practices, university

The purpose and objectives of the innovation-active university are defined, the system-forming directions of its innovation activity are allocated and characterized. On the basis of the carried out researches, the framework for the creation and development of the IAU was formed, containing a list of components of the internal environment and the factors that ensure their support on the basis of development of entrepreneurship and innovation. Prospects for further research in this direction are the development of a mechanism for the functioning of an innovation-active university, which will ensure the effective transformation of higher education institution on the basis of innovation and entrepreneurship development and will contribute to maintaining a high level of its competitiveness in the educational space.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES. For student youth the process of entering the profession and harmonization of interactions with professional environment and future professional activity is the key moment of life activity. This process, according to the majority of modern researchers, is a certain complexity and contradiction both for students and for higher education institution, as well as social institutions and organizations acting as social customers.METHODS. The study of the process of adaptation of student youth to research and professional activity was carried out on the basis of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. Assessment of students' expectations regarding studies, the level of students' awareness of the future professional and scientific activity was carried out with the help of the University Hackathon Ecosystem toolkit. Processing of the obtained results of the survey was carried out on the basis of the "Methodology of research of students' adaptability to dual education in higher education". The methodology includes two scales: adaptability to professional activity and adaptability to research activity.FINDINGS. The following directions of training are distinguished: professional, social and research, as well as stages of adaptation to professional training: learning identification, learning-professional activation, professional-value reflection. Integration of these directions allows us to organize activities that ensure formation of necessary professionally important qualities (competences) in students (graduates), agreed with potential employers and demanded by the corresponding profession. The conducted experiment on the basis of Hackathon-ecosystem of the university was carried out taking into account the directions of training and their corresponding adaptation criteria: professional direction – activity-result and motivation-value criteria; humanitarian – communication-professional criterion; research – personal-creative criterion.CONCLUSION. Students' adaptation to future professional and research activities can be defined as one of the most urgent social problems at the pre-production stage. This is due to the fact that the student spends one of the main periods of his life in a higher education institution, since it is at this time he is formed as a professional and as a person, masters the necessary competencies in order to achieve a certain professional and research level. At this stage the professional intentions of the individual and the requirements of the profession come into alignment, i.e. there is an adaptation to professional and research activities.
