Perceived Organizational Support and Career Satisfaction among Chinese Teachers: The Mediation Effects of Job Crafting and Work Engagement during COVID-19

Recently, scientific theories on career satisfaction (CS) have been promoted worldwide. Research on the subject has become more and more popular, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study adds to the existing literature by investigating the impact of organizational support on career satisfaction through the mediation role of job crafting and work engagement among Chinese teachers. A diverse sample of teachers (n = 3147) was drawn from various schools in Zhejiang province (P.R. China), from June to September 2021. SPSS 26 software with PROCESS macro and JASP was used to analyze the data. The findings demonstrate that perceived organizational support (POS), job crafting (JC), and work engagement (WE) have a significant and positive relation with teachers’ career satisfaction. POS was serially associated with JC (b = 0.34, p = 0.001), CS (b = 0.40, p = 0.001), and WE (b = 0.49, p0.001). The residual direct pathways for JC → CS (b = 0.55, p = 0.001, 95% CI = [0.51, 0.60]) and for WE → CS (b = 0.47, p = 0.001, 95% CI = [0.44, 0.50]) were significant. Sequentially, JC and WE mediated the relation between POS and CS. The multiple mediation model supported our general hypothesis that JC and WE mediate the relationship between POS and CS.

Purpose Drawing upon organizational support theory and family-like exchange perspective, this paper aims to investigate whether mentoring influences protégés’ work engagement, and the roles of perceived organizational support (POS) and family-like employee-organization relationship (FEOR) between mentoring and protégés’ work engagement. Design/methodology/approach Matched data were collected from 290 protégés and their mentors in two large state-owned enterprises in Northwest China. Multiple regression analyses and bootstrapping methods were used to test the hypotheses. Findings The results show that mentoring is positively related to protégés’ work engagement, and POS and FEOR play multiple mediation roles in the relationship between mentoring and protégés’ work engagement. Research limitations/implications The primary contribution of this study is exploring the impact of mentoring on protégés’ work engagement. Additionally, this study uses organizational support and family-like exchange perspective to understand how mentoring influences protégés’ work engagement. Originality/value Despite a few studies examining the effect of mentoring on protégés’ work engagement, but focusing excessively on organizational socialization and social exchange, as such, limited attention has been given to the role of emotions. This is, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, the first study to investigate the effect of emotional factors (including POS and FEOR) on the relationship between mentoring and protégés’ work engagement in Chinese organizational culture.

Bank Jatim or PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk , on august 17, 1961 Bank Jatiwas establised in Surabaya. as a BUMD, Bank Jatim is the largest bank in East Java. The goal of this research is to examine and analyze the impact of employee’s perceived organizational support on work engagement through job crafting at the General Division in Bank Jatim Surabaya. This study is a causal research of quantitative approach. A total of 56 respondent are used for the sampling technique. With the support of SmartPLS v.3.6.2 software, the statistical analysis used in this research is Partial Least Square (PLS). The analysis outcomes indicate that perceived organizational support has a significant positive effect on work engagement, perceived organizational support has a significant positive effect on job crafting, job crafting has a significant positive effect on work engagement, and job crafting has successfully mediated the effect of perceived organizational support on work engagement.

This research is aimed at figuring out the extent to which job characteristics, perceived organizational support and self-efficacy affect job satisfaction with work engagement serving as an intervening variable. The respondents of this research were 101 employees of the Centre for the Development and Empowerment of Educators and Educational Personnel (P4TK) of Art and Culture of Yogyakarta. The data were collected using questionnaires. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative analysis techniques used in this research were t-test, F-test, multiple regression analysis and path analysis. The research yielded some results. Firstly,  job characteristics and self-efficacy had a significant effect on work engagement and perceived organizational support did not have any significant effect on work engagement, but together it had a significant effect on work engagement. Secondly, job characteristics and perceived organizational support had a significant effect on job satisfaction, and self-efficacy did not have any significant effect on job satisfaction, but together it had a significant effect on job satisfaction. Thirdly, work engagement had a significant effect on job satisfaction. Fourthly, job characteristics and perceived organizational support had a greater effect on job satisfaction directly, and self-efficacy had a greater effect on job satisfaction indirectly through work engagement. The results of this research can be used as a reference for P4TK to improve employees' job satisfaction, and ultimately, support the achievement of organizational goals.

Abstract Purpose: This study aimed to determine the impact of digital quotient, authentic leadership, and perceived organizational support on work engagement of employees who work in the health industry during this COVID-19 in West Jakarta. Research methodology: The methods in this research were quantitative and survey. We obtained primary data through the questionnaire distribution with 391 respondents of health care workers who work in West Jakarta. This study used multiple regression techniques as the data analysis technique. Results: The study results indicate that digital quotient, authentic leadership, and perceived organizational support influence work engagement. Limitations: Only digital quotient, authentic leadership, perceived organizational support, work engagement variables, and health care workers in West Jakarta were assessed in this research. Contribution: This study shows the level of work engagement, digital quotient, authentic leadership, perceived organizational support and how digital quotient, authentic leadership, and perceived organizational support affect work engagement. Employers or organizations can use this research to improve their employees' work engagement by noticing their employee's level of digital quotient and implementing authentic leadership and perceived organizational support.

The feeling of job boredom can impede employees’ performances but it can be improved through engaging them in job crafting activities. It is important to understand the concept of job boredom because it can lead to many negative consequences at the work place. The study attempted to investigate the impact of perceived organizational support, servant leadership, creative self-efficacy, and conscientiousness on job boredom through the mediating effect of job crafting. Data has been collected from 450 employees of Punjab and Sindh working in banking sector of Pakistan through questionnaires. The data is analyzed with the help of SPSS 22 and Smart PLS 3. The findings reveal that there is significant and positive impact of perceived organizational support, servant leadership, creative self-efficacy, and conscientiousness on job crafting. Additionally, job crafting has significant and negative impact on job boredom. However, job crafting also significantly mediate between perceived organizational support, servant leadership, creative self-efficacy, conscientiousness, and job boredom. Moreover, the study also suggests that future researchers can explore other outcomes of job crafting through which job boredom can be mitigated.

Work performance, undoubtedly, is the key of organizational success. Therefore, it is very important to find out the antecedents which will significantly lead to work performance. Unlike other organizations, mental hospital is a unique institution delivering a different kind of service, both to the patients as well as the family of the patients. Adding to the fact, nurses play a very important role in determining the performance of the hospital. Current study aimed to investigate the contributions of work engagement, psychological capital, and perceived organizational support towards work performance. This was a quantitative non-experimental research employing four questionnaire distributed to 140 nurses from all positions, ranging from junior to senior,  and conducted in a mental hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. The questionnaires distributed to participants were 47-item Individual’s Work Performance, 3-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, 24-item Psychological Capital Questionnaire, and 8-item Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. The results of the study found that work engagement played a significant role towards work performance (F=42.402, p<0,05). Moreover, psychological capital and perceived organization support contributed a significant impact towards work engagement (F=3.678, p<0.05). Tidak diragukan lagi bahwa kinerja adalah kunci keberhasilan organisasi. Oleh karena itu, mengetahui anteseden yang secara signifikan akan mengarah pada kinerja sangat penting. Tidak seperti organisasi lain, rumah sakit jiwa adalah institusi unik yang memberikan layanan yang berbeda, baik untuk pasien maupun keluarga pasien. Ditambah juga perawat memainkan peran yang sangat penting dalam menentukan kinerja rumah sakit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki kontribusi keterlibatan kerja, modal psikologis, dan dukungan organisasi yang dirasakan terhadap kinerja kerja. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif non-eksperimental yang menggunakan empat kuesioner yang didistribusikan kepada 140 perawat dari berbagai posisi, mulai dari junior hingga senior, dan dilakukan di sebuah rumah sakit jiwa di Jakarta, Indonesia. Kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada peserta adalah Individual’s Work Performance yang terdiri dari 47 item, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale yang terdiri dari 3 item, Psychological Capital Questionnaire yang terdiri dari 24 item, dan Survey of Perceived Organizational  Support yang terdiri dari 8 item. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa keterlibatan kerja berperan penting terhadap kinerja kerja (F = 42,402, p <0,05). Selain itu, modal psikologis dan dukungan organisasi yang dirasakan berkontribusi secara signifikan pada keterlibatan kerja (F = 3,678, p <0,05).

Work engagement is a valuable organizational resource, and it has many positive outcomes. In today’s dynamic and competitive business environment, organizations can only be successful when they have an engaged workforce. The current study examines how supervisors support and fairness is important for employee’s work engagement and how the role of perceived organizational support is significant in an employee's workplace. In line with Organizational Support Theory (OST) and Conservation of Resource Theory (CRT), the current study is an empirical attempt to explain antecedents that could increase work engagement and resultantly fetch productivity and profit in the context of South Asia (the case of Pakistan) by considering the outcomes. This cross-sectional study draws data through structured questionnaires from 310 employees of eight mega retail stores by using simple random sampling. The outcomes of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis revealed a positive effect of supervisors’ support and organizational fairness on work engagement through the mediation of Perceived Organizational Support (POS) and explained the impact of work engagement on task performance and career satisfaction of employees. The current study tested the model for work engagement; future research might test the model using other employee factors (employee sustainability or motivation) in order to test continuous employee behaviors in their workplaces.
