Measurement of Islamic Banking Performance using the Malmquist Index has been widely discussed by researchers from various countries. The Malmquist index is part of the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method which is used to process non-parametric data to measure the increase in Decision Making Unit (DMU) productivity. This article aims to conduct a literature study of scientific articles that research the Malmquist Index. The research method used is Literature Study, starting with determining the research topic, then conducting theoretical studies and references related to the research carried out. 12 articles have been reviewed with the criteria of literature that has relevance to the research objectives, in the form of Scientific Journals, both National Scientific Journals, Accredited National Scientific Journals, International Scientific Journals, and Reputable International Scientific Journals. The results of the study reveal that Islamic banking has positive productivity growth, based on the area of Islamic Banking outside the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has better performance. Sharia Banking in the Southeast Asia Region, represented by Malaysia and Indonesia, alternately, received the best ranking based on the ranking by the Islamic Finance Country Index (IFCI).

Islamic banking in their activity base on Islamic principles that is agreement regulation on Islamic Law between Bank and others to saving and or financing an activity or business which suit Islamic role. There are several forms of financing, such as financing on sharing profit principle (mudharabah), financing on participation principle (musyarakah), transaction goods principle which get profit (murabaha), financing capital goods on rent principle without choice (ijarah), or with transfer authority over the rent goods from bank to others (ijarah wa iqtina). Furthermore, development of Islamic banking either in Indonesia or Malaysia must be followed with new law and regulation from their government, especially for rules on taxation over transaction on Islamic banking. This is critical because there are different interpretation and argumentation between practitioners of Islamic banking and the government about the subject of Value Added Tax on murabaha transaction. This research used a qualitative approach, using literature study, which emphasizes books as an object and field study with collecting data by interviewing and also using secondary data. As a result, both Indonesia and Malaysia has undergone essential steps to provide Islamic finance with appropriate banking and tax regulations that have succeeded in supporting the Islamic financial system.

Data envelopment analysis is a nonparametric method for measuring of the performance of decision-making units—which do not need to have or compute a firm’s production function, which is often difficult to calculate. For any manager, the progress or setback of the thing they manage is important because it makes planning and adoption of future policies for the organization or decision-making unit more rational and scientific. Different methods have been used to calculate the improvements and regressions using Malmquist Index. In this article, we evaluate the units under review in terms of economic efficiency, and the units in terms of spending, production, revenue and profit over several periods, and the rate of improvement or regression of each of these units. Considering the minimal use of resources and consuming less money, generating more revenue, and maximizing profits, the improvement or retreat of the recipient’s decision unit in terms of cost, revenue, and profit was examined by presenting a method based on solving linear programming models using the productivity index is Malmquist and Malmquist Global. Finally, by designing and solving a numerical example, we emphasize and test the applicability of the material presented in this article.

The Primary Health Care in Morocco plays a very strategic role in the prevention against various diseases, in particular the current pandemic COVID 19. The efficiency of these centers has a direct impact on the reduction of this pandemic. First, this is why will try to research the literature review about the technical efficiency of primary health care. In the second step, the non-parametric: Data Envelopment Analysis method will be used to apply the empiric phase during the period 2012-2015, to estimate the relative technical efficiency, this method will be calculated by using two models: the theory of the return to scale constant with a middle equal to 0.437 and the theory of the variable return to scale with an average of 0.537. It’s necessary to combine the DEA approach with the Malmquist index to evaluate the factors of production. Finally, to compare the results of the proposed method which are generally very poor, and discuss his policy implications for health care.

This paper discusses the application of Sharia compliance to industry and Islamic finance business. Sharia compliance is a possible means of preventing risk and fraud in the real sector. This also applies to the innovation of Islamic financial products. Shariah rules are expected to be a guide in the operationalization of Islamic banking in Indonesia. With literature study, this paper found that Shariah compliance serves as an ex-ante (preventive) action and measure, to ensure policies, rules, systems and procedures, and business activities undertaken by Islamic banks. Innovation of Islamic banking products refers to sharia standards and shariah governance sourced from Qur'an and Hadith, guided by international standards, fulfillment of integrity and quality of Islamic banking human resources, suitability of contracts, and not dozens of people as consumers.

Islamic banking dominates the largest market share of global Islamic finance assets. Thus, the performance of Islamic banks is crucial in shaping the future development of Islamic finance. This study aims to examine the performance of Islamic banks in the perspective of technological and productivity change based on the country level assessment. By adopting the Malmquist Index analysis, this study selected 44 Islamic banks from the top ten countries that had the largest Islamic banking asset for the period from 2015 to 2018. The findings reveal that the average productivity of Islamic banks has increased during the study period. Productivity improvements were supported by technological innovation, which significantly increased the level of productivity. Nevertheless, the high-tech expansion was not followed by an improvement in the efficiency level. This finding explains that the development of banking technology is not able to fully support the development of products and services.

Abstract Nowadays, when marketing and branding change, companies are trying to find new ways to evaluate the effectiveness of their marketing activities as they impact on current and future business results. The main objective of the contribution is to evaluate the effectiveness of decision making unit (DMU) production units in the form of selected Slovak brands through the non-parametric data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. The sample size consists of 10 Slovak brands (Slovenská sporiteľňa, VÚB banka, Tatra banka, ESET, Slovnaft, Matador, Rajec, Sygic, Sedita and Zlatý bažant). Through DEA, we have gained a portfolio of effective and portfolio of ineffective brands operating in Slovakia. Depending on the choice of the DEA model, effective brands included Slovenská sporiteľňa, Sygic, Zlatý Bažant, Rajec and Sedita. Other brands were classified as ineffective. The result for ineffective brands is the creation of archetypal characters that we propose in Results section. The part of Results section is the focus of the businesses of the brands in question on the use of social media, to a larger extent, create a social media voice so that the personality of the brand is reflected in contributions in social media communicating on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. In contribution, deduction, induction, analysis and marketing research methods were used.

The concept of cost efficiency has become tremendously popular in data envelopment analysis (DEA) as it serves to assess a decision-making unit (DMU) in terms of producing minimum-cost outputs. A large variety of precise and imprecise models have been put forward to measure cost efficiency for the DMUs which have a role in constructing the production possibility set; yet, there’s not an extensive literature on the cost efficiency (CE) measurement for sample DMUs (SDMUs). In an effort to remedy the shortcomings of current models, herein is introduced a generalized cost efficiency model that is capable of operating in a fuzzy environment-involving different types of fuzzy numbers-while preserving the Farrell’s decomposition of cost efficiency. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, the present paper is the first to measure cost efficiency by using vectors. Ultimately, a useful example is provided to confirm the applicability of the proposed methods.

The present paper aims to assess the Islamic products potential demand for entrepreneurs in the Tunisian Northwest region. In order to do so, we developed a questionnaire which was sent to these entrepreneurs. The survey results show that the latter perceive Islamic Finance as a seductive phenomenon. However, its development appears to be difficult. Indeed, according to the survey results, the lack of knowledge may impede the expansion of Islamic banking in Tunisia. Moreover, the following factors: cost, religious conviction, proximity, flexibility and satisfaction of the needs, may affect the entrepreneurs' choice to deal with Islamic financial institution. In addition, the lack of entrepreneurs' confidence with regard to the compliance of Islamic banking with the Shariah principles has a negative effect on Islamic finance development in the Tunisian Northwest region. For this reason, Tunisian Islamic banks should put more effort to reinforce their competitiveness.

This paper aims at measuring the relative efficiency of the most polluting industry in terms of water pollution in Pakistan. The textile processing is country‘s leading sub sector in textile manufacturing with regard to value added production, export, employment, and foreign exchange earnings. The data envelopment analysis technique is employed to estimate the relative efficiency of decision making units that uses several inputs to produce desirable and undesirable outputs. The efficiency scores of all manufacturing units exhibit the environmental consciousness of few producers is which may be due to state regulations to control pollution but overall the situation is far from satisfactory. Effective measures and instruments are still needed to check the rising pollution levels in water resources discharged by textile processing industry of the country. JEL classification: L67, Q53 Keywords: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Decision Making Unit (DMU), Relative Efficiency, Undesirable Output
