Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between knowledge sharing and project portfolio success in Chinese construction firms. It also examines how and under what conditions knowledge sharing contributes to project portfolio success. Design/methodology/approach The authors collected questionnaire survey from 178 construction enterprises in China that manage project portfolio as a main form of their business. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to test the proposed framework. Findings The empirical results indicate that all three types of knowledge sharing (knowledge sharing within the project, knowledge sharing among projects and knowledge sharing within the organization) are positively related to project portfolio success. Portfolio management quality (PMQ) conduits the impact of knowledge sharing on project portfolio success. Furthermore, portfolio interdependency moderates the main effect. Originality/value This research is among the first to explicitly differentiate three types of knowledge sharing existing in project portfolios. Also, this research contributes to the literature on the antecedents of project portfolio success by showing the effect of knowledge sharing. Furthermore, this study empirically contributes to portfolio management research by clarifying the critical role of PMQ and portfolio interdependency in the mechanism of knowledge sharing and project portfolio success.

In knowledge economy era, enterprise needs to innovate to maintain its advantages and competitiveness. Construction enterprises, being pillars of China’s economy and confronting the challenge brought by the strategy of “going out”, the call for their technology or management innovation was broadly pronounced across practical and academic fields. Social capital (SC), as a resource in a social network, is the basis for creating sustainable competitiveness and advantage for enterprises. The innovative achievements and innovation performance (IP) of enterprises are largely determined by their SC. To achieve competitiveness in the market, enterprises must carry out knowledge transfer (KT) with the other members of their networks. However, few scholars have examined weather SC has any effect on IP in construction enterprises. Using a KT perspective, this paper explored how SC affects the IP of construction enterprises. Based on the literature review and analysis, a conceptual model was constructed and validated using structural equation modeling (SEM). Through empirical analysis, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) SC has a positive impact on the IP of construction enterprises. Among them, the structural dimension (SD) and cognitive dimension (CD) have a significant positive impact on the IP of construction enterprises, while the relational dimension (RD) does not. (2) The SD, CD, and RD of construction enterprises’ SC have a positive influence on KT. (3) There are mediating effects of KT between SC and IP of construction firms, and they are partial. KT plays a partial mediating effect between SD, CD, and IP of construction firms. The research results can not only improve an understanding of effects of SC on IP of construction enterprises, but also validate the importance of KT in stimulating IP.

Current trends of globalization, digitalization of the economy, the introduction of information technology objectively gradually weaken the material component (traditional factors of labor - land, capital, labor) and, conversely, highlight the importance of the intangible component of competitive positions of economic entities. The study of the evolutionary development of competition theory and establishing the impact of modern technological changes on the content and nature of competition was the basis for substantiating the key provisions of modern theory of network intellectual information information, the content of which is to form hyperconnected intellectual information business systems. introduction of digital technologies, resources, competencies and business platforms provide intensification of intersectoral innovation and production cooperation, increase the speed and volume of information and knowledge, reduce the life cycle of innovation and generally contribute to the generation of dynamic competitiveness. Achieving strategic priorities for development and ensuring the competitiveness of enterprises, taking into account the digitalization of the market of construction works and services requires taking into account the specifics of innovation. The essential and substantive characteristics of the concept of "innovative convergence" are revealed, innovative incentives, motives, interests and tools of its implementation are established, which will create conditions for production at the enterprises of the branch with the use of BIM-technologies. Theoretical and methodological approaches to modeling the information technology architecture of the organization are proposed. Theoretical and methodological approaches to determining the formal features of an innovative organization in the context of the digital economy have been developed. The influence of intellectual potential and innovation culture on the innovative development of the organization in the digital economy is determined. The factors that generate in management information and identify the conditions that promote (hinder) the implementation of innovations are systematized.

Various indicators of profitability are widely used in many industries to assess the companies’ financial and economic performance. For example, production profitability and sales profitability indicators are used for comparative assessing the performance of individual economic entities and industries that produce different volumes and types of products. To compare the amount of profit and the amount of funds used to achieve it in the sectoral economy, production profitability indicator is used. Basically, production profitability is one of the key parameters for determining the efficiency of the economy. This indicator is very important for making current and strategic decisions. The author of the article has developed a 4-factor model to carry out a factor analysis of production profitability. In deterministic factor analysis, the author’s model of production profitability (effective criterion indicator) is represented by the product of 4 factors, of which three are well-known and one is found by the author. The relationship between these four factors and the production profitability is functional. The article reveals the influence of factors influencing the change in the production profitability and gives the author’s methodological approaches to its calculation (methods of factor analysis, developed by E.A. Filatov). The article presents the author’s analytical and systematized statistical material for the analysis of the key indicators that reveal the impact of the changes in the production profitability of small enterprises in the construction industry of the Irkutsk region of the Russian Federation.
