Abstract Background Travel from Portugal to other countries has increased in the past 5 years. A pre-travel health consultation is advised to all travellers to raise awareness and reduce travel-related risk. We describe the experience of a pre-travel consultation centre in the public health service. Methods A retrospective observational study about consultations in an international vaccination centre between 2014-2018. Variables included were: sex, age, destination, purpose, referral, and prescriptions. Descriptive analyses were performed for all variables. Results Between 2014 and 2018, there were 1,546 consultations. Regarding individual characteristics, 54% were female, and 80% had between 15 and 64 years of age. There was no referral in 66% of the consultations, followed by 16% from general practitioners in the Primary Care Centres Group. The leading destination was Africa (54%), in a downward trend (74% in 2015 and 32% in 2018) followed by Asia (18%) with an upward trend (12% to 28% in the same period). The primary purpose was tourism (83%), followed by work (9%). In total, 3,287 vaccines were prescribed with typhoid fever vaccine accounting for 26%, hepatitis A vaccine 22%, and yellow fever vaccine 15%. Mefloquine was the primary therapeutic drug prescribed for destinations with risk for malaria (41%). Regarding destinations with low risk for malaria, in 42% of the consultations, personal protective measures were the only recommendation. Conclusions Our data show that pre-travel consultations seem to be valued and actively asked for by travellers, but medical referral is still insufficient. Regarding health promotion and prevention of diseases, tracking trends in the most common destinations allows to optimize the information provided in the consultation, effectively capacitating the traveller to recognize and act on the most common travel-related health risks. In further studies, a post-travel follow-up should be carried out to determine the impact of the consultation. Key messages Pre-travel consultation is an actively sought-after service by the community, but awareness should be promoted in the medical community. Pre-travel consultation can have an important role in the health literacy of travellers.

The electroplating sludge may pose serious threat to human health and surrounding environment without safe treatment. This paper investigated the feasibility of using electroplating sludge as subgrade backfill materials, by evaluating the mechanical properties and environmental risk of the cement-coal fly ash solidified sludge. In this study, Portland cement and coal fly ash are used to solidify/stabilize the sludge. After curing for 7, 14, and 28 days, the stabilization/solidification sludge specimens were subject to a series of mechanical, leaching, and microcosmic tests. It was found that the compressive strength increased with the increase of cement content, curing time, and the cement replacement by coal fly ash besides water content. Among these factors, the impact of water content on the compressive strength is most noticeable. It was observed that the compressive strength declined by 87.1% when the water content increased from 0% to 10%. Besides, leaching tests showed that the amount of leaching heavy metals were under the standard limit. These results demonstrated utilization of electroplating sludge in subgrade backfill material may provide an alternative for the treatment of electroplating sludge.

Construction dust falls to the snow cover and the surface of the glacier to form a fouling layer to absorb more solar radiation and reduce the intensity of surface albedo, thereby accelerating the melting of the glacier, which is the main factor affecting the glacial environment in the Highway construction. This article adopts the combination method of wind tunnel experiment and numerical simulation was used to calculate the impact range of construction dust. The results show that with increasing of particle size, the diffusion range of dust decreased while the settlement speed increased. High dust concentration area (> 4mg / m3) is generally distributed within 1000m around the construction site. The specific extension direction is directly related to the local terrain and wind direction, and the height direction is generally not more than 300m. According to the above simulation results, for preventing and reducing the impact of highway construction on the glacial environment, the requirements of route selection and construction dust control measures was put forward, which played an important role and significance in guiding the highway design and construction and reducing the impact of highway construction on the glacial environment.

Given the spread terror and the abuses perpetrated in the Balkan region, many victims and witnesses of atrocities were deterred from testifying. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY or Tribunal) facilitated the appearance of witnesses and protected them in case of intimidation including by taking measures against those who would violate the confidentiality of the proceedings. This article aims to introduce some of the witness protective measures before the Tribunal, and particularly threats and risks they have faced in the context of the cases dealt with by the Tribunal. It reflects also upon groundbreaking measures of protection decided by the Tribunal and the challenges it has faced over the last two decades. It finally discusses the impact of such challenges on the right to a fair trial and how they were addressed.

This research analyzes the sustainability of the convenience stores of the industrial cd in Villahermosa, Tabasco. Considering the behavior of the research variable (sustainability) in different international, national and local contexts. As well as the theoretical foundations on which this variable is based. A diagnosis is made on the sustainability of convenience stores, generating a comprehensive scenario, in order to design a proposal. The tool that was used was the Likert scale from which an instrument was designed to determine how each of the cultural, economic, social, political, technological and environmental variables (independent or context variables) influence the research variable (sustainability of convenience stores). These context variables are in constant changes and movements and directly influence the convenience stores either positively or negatively. The instrument was applied in the convenience stores of the industrial cd of Villahermosa, Tabasco, in order to obtain decisive results for the sustainability of the self-service stores, the Excel tool version 2010 was used, in which tables were obtained and graphics, simplifying the content of the data giving specific and necessary results for the development of the proposal. From the results obtained, a model is designed to improve the sustainability of the convenience stores of the industrial cd in Villahermosa Tabasco, which will achieve a growth that will be strongly linked to social responsibility to provide attention to the workers who are part of them and the reduction of the impact on the surrounding environment. ABSTRACT A series of experiments was undertaken to learn more about the impact on other bacteria of nitric oxide (NO) produced during denitrification. The denitrifier Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.3 was chosen as a denitrifier for these experiments. To learn more about NO production by this bacterium, NO levels during denitrification were measured by using differential mass spectrometry. This revealed that NO levels produced during nitrate respiration by this bacterium were in the low μM range. This concentration of NO is higher than that previously measured in denitrifiers, including Achromobacter cycloclastes and Paracoccus denitrificans. Therefore, both 2.4.3 and A. cycloclastes were used in this work to compare the effects of various NO levels on nondenitrifying bacteria. By use of bacterial overlays, it was found that the NO generated by A. cycloclastes and 2.4.3 cells during denitrification inhibited the growth of both Bacillus subtilis and R. sphaeroides 2.4.1 but that R. sphaeroides 2.4.3 caused larger zones of inhibition in the overlays than A. cycloclastes. Both R. sphaeroides 2.4.3 and A. cycloclastes induced the expression of the NO stress response gene hmp in B. subtilis. Taken together, these results indicate that there is variability in the NO concentrations produced by denitrifiers, but, irrespective of the NO levels produced, microbes in the surrounding environment were responsive to the NO produced during denitrification.

Abstract Background: Fragile X syndrome (FXS), tightly related to the morbidity of Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a common hereditary syndrome often associated with retardation of intelligence. Some key symptoms of ASD such as anxiety, cognitive impairment and social anxiety disorder are also the predominant features in FXS. Children with ASD are often performed with gastrointestinal symptoms. According to the existing research, with the treatment with Bacteroides Fragilis BF839, mice with ASD will have better performance in communication and social behaviours with less anxiety and perceptual disorder. In this article, we have observed the impact of Bacteroides Fragilis BF839, a well-established Chinese bacteria strain with the human intestine origin, on mice with FXS and their behavioural disorders accordingly. Result: Based on the Open Field test, compared to the Fmr1KO group, mice treated with BF839 showed prolonged staying time in the center of the container. This finding suggests that BF839 can improve Fmr1KO mice's self-exploration behaviour and dented their anxiety. The Elevated Plus Maze test indicated BF839 treated mice presented more activities in entering open arms, prolonged time of staying and significantly less distance travelled at the plus-maze, along with less entering behaviours in the closed arms with less time of staying and more distance travelled. This result proved that with the treatment of BF839, Fmr1KO mice have improved ability in recognizing the surrounding environment and greater senses at detecting danger. Three-box Social Interaction test confirmed that BF839 strengthens the social novelty preference of the Fmr1KO mice, proven by their increasing duration and frequency in social interacting with the stranger mouse. The final experiment named the Pool Maze test presented the result that on the fourth day, BF839 treated mice have shown significantly shortened escape latency. Meanwhile, on Day 5, BF839 treated group performed increasing frequency in passing through the platform, which, along with the shortened escape latency, demonstrated BF839 has the function of improving Fmr1KO mice's cognitive capacity and their ability to extract information from the surrounding environment.Conclusion: Based on the outcome of each test performed, Bacteroides Fragilis BF839 can successfully improve Autism related abnormal behaviours in mice with FXS. Bacteroides Fragilis BF839 can be a potential intervention strategy in treating FXS and ASD safely and effectively.
