This study examined the use of WhatsApp Messenger as a tutorial platform for Arabic language lifelong learning (A3L) at the Velsuf Institute. An exploratory research design was adopted and the purposive sampling technique was used in selecting participants for the study. Specifically, the study comprises 40 Velsuf Institute A3L learners. The WhatsApp Messenger was used as a tutorial delivery tool for the learners. Two research questions were raised and analyzed qualitatively. The result of the analysis indicated that WhatsApp Messenger could be used as tutorial delivery tool for A3L following the prescribed steps and procedures. Twelve Arabic lessons were learned which include contents for learners, quizzes, feedbacks and learner supports. Based on the findings, it was recommended that researchers need to extensively respond to the growing need of a body of research in this area, especially building models and strategies that work for the use of social media for the improvement of A3L delivery. Additionally, the A3L facilitators should be equipped with the skills of using mobile technologies, particularly the social media for A3L enhancement.

An exploratory research design was adopted and the purposive sampling technique was used in selecting participants for the study. Specifically, the study comprises 40 USIM A3L learners. The WhatsApp mobile application was used as a tutorial delivery tool for the learners. Two research questions were raised and analyzed qualitatively. The result of the analysis indicated that WhatsApp mobile application could be used as tutorial delivery tool for A3L following the prescribed steps and procedures. Social media is a convenient network of communication for people nowadays. This study is an attempt to examine the application and usefulness of social media activities in academics. The main objective of the study is to find out the level of social media activities of the higher secondary students concerning gender, class, locality of the school, and types of school. The sample size for the study comprised 707 students. The investigator used the social media activities scale prepared and validated by D.Johnraj David and Dr.P.Muthupandi. A Simple random sampling technique was used to collect the sample from various schools. Data was analysed through mean, standard deviation, and “t” tests. The findings of the study indicate that (i) male students have significantly higher use of social media activities than female students (ii)students studying in XII standard have significantly higher use of social media activities than students studying in XI standard students (iii) urban locality school students have significantly higher use of social media activities than rural locality school students(iv) students studying in aided schools have significantly higher use of social media activities than students in unaided schools.

ResumoO presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir aspectos do possível uso das Mídias e Redes Sociais Digitais na perspectiva da Comunicação Organizacional, especificamente, na Comunicação Interna, a partir de pesquisa exploratória. Os avanços tecnológicos são notórios e também fazem parta da Comunicação como um todo. Contudo, o olhar para as Mídias e Redes Sociais Digitais por parte dos gestores é, muitas vezes, pejorativo. No corpo do artigo é feita a análise dos conceitos fundamentais para o entendimento da questão, como Comunicação Organizacional, Comunicação Interna, Mídias Sociais e Redes Sociais. A metodologia de Análise de Conteúdo é aplicada ao corpus de pesquisa, formada pelos artigos encontrados que levam em conta esse determinado assunto e autores reconhecidos da área de Comunicação Social. AbstractNiche sports have limited opportunities to promote their sport offerings via traditional communication channels and may rely upon alternatives such as social media to accomplish their marketing goals (Puchan, 2004). Williams and Chinn (2010) developed a relationship marketing conceptual framework to examine social media usage and marketing within a sports context. This study used the framework with the burgeoning sport of CrossFit and examined three primary organizational relationship-marketing activities: (a) Information, (b) Interaction, and (c) Promotion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of social media by key members of the CrossFit community. The study addressed the following research questions: RQ1. What are the usage categories similarities and differences observed across the social media platforms? RQ2. What are the group usage similarities and differences observed across the social media platforms? and RQ3. What are the group usage similarities and differences observed across the usage categories? A content analysis of 5,565 Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube messages was used to explore these activities. The CrossFit social media users—CrossFit Games, regions, boxes, athletes, and sponsors—used the platforms primarily to provide information about the sport and interact with the community, while promotion was employed less frequently. CrossFit and other niche sports can use social media to provide information and build community within their sports, before attempting to create online communities and promote their products.

The study examined parents’ awareness of their teenage children use of social media in Delta State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study using a self-constructed questionnaire as instrument of data collection.The questionnaire was constructed after extensive consultation of related literature in order to ensure that relevant items were included in it. The population of the study comprised of all parents in Delta State, Nigeria but the study adopted a purposive sampling technique to select respondents for the study. Data were collected through the use of a self-constructed questionnaire entitled “Parents’ awareness of their teenage children use of the social media (PATCUSM)”. The data collected were analysed using frequencies and simple percentages.The study has revealed that all parents’ were aware that their teenage children used social media; a majority of them indicated that their teens used their mothers’ device to access social media; teenagers use of Facebook attracted the highest responses followed by WhatsApp; a majority of the parents indicated that their teenage children access social media during the day, though most of them were not aware of the length of time their teens spent per visit to social media site; a majority of the respondents were aware that their teens used social media for academic matters and they monitored their teenage children. The study recommended that parents should ensure that they guide the children on fruitful use of social media to enhance their academic achievement and advancement; efforts should be made by parents to regularly monitor and supervise their teens children on social media in order to mitigate their use for antisocial purposes; parents should provide their teenage children with smart phones, but should monitor their use to ensure the teens use them for productive purposes.

There is a growing public concern over the perceived decline in the reading culture of youths in Nigeria. A wider section of analysts strongly insinuate that the increasing use of social media and other new media technologies is the most significant cause of this social ill; hence, emphasis has been placed on how to control the use of online platforms principally for social interaction in Nigeria. This study examines the nature of relationship between social media use and the reading culture of Nigerian youths. Using a survey of 1,000 youths selected from Nigeria’s South-south geopolitical zone through a multistage sampling technique, the study found that 94.3% of the respondents use the social media and there is a generally poor culture of reading among young Nigerians. Contrary to popular opinion however, the study found a weak and insignificant relationship between social media use and reading culture (rho = 0.241, p> 0.05). Nevertheless, reading culture tended to be positively and significantly associated with certain demographic variables such as sex (.787**), education (.731**) and employment status (.654**). The study recommends the urgent reinvigoration of societal campaigns aimed at improving the reading culture of youths through the provision of a favourable socio-economic environment that encourages people to read.

The possibilities for companies to reach out more people to get in-depth understanding about brand, products, and services is through social media pages. We examined effects of social media on performance and customer relations of companies in Ghana. We obtained data from 390 respondents through structured questionnaires, and was analyzed with statistical package for social science (SPSS). The findings indicate increased awareness and usage of social media by companies in Ghana. However, customer’s desire for a products could be influence by company’s advertisement through social media post. We established that, managers are expectant with the use of social media enhancing customer’s relationship. Therefore, managers should modify their website to complement the social media strategies, identify the actions, wants and demands of customers to improve performance. We discussed several managerial recommendations.

Most employee satisfaction studies do not consider the current digital transformation of the social world. The aim of this research is to provide insight into employee satisfaction in agribusiness by means of coaching, motivation, emotional salary and social media with a value chain methodology. The model is tested empirically by analysing a survey data set of 381 observations in Spanish agribusiness firms of the agri-food value chain. The results show flexible remunerations of emotional salary are determinants of employee satisfaction. Additionally, motivation is relevant in the production within commercialisation link and coaching in the production within transformation link. Whole-of-chain employees showed the greatest satisfaction with the use of social media in personnel management. Findings also confirmed that employees will stay when a job is satisfying. This study contributes to the literature by investigating the effect of current social and digital business skills on employee satisfaction in the agri-food value chain.

PurposeAlthough social media is widely used for organizational communication, studies have begun to show its controversial effects on job performance in the workplace. To investigate these effects, this study developed a conceptual framework for how social media interactivity affects communication quality and work interruption, as well as how such effects impact job performance.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed theoretical model was empirically validated through a survey study of 556 employees in China.FindingsThe results verified a social media interactivity paradox that indicated social media interactivity increased both communication quality and work interruptions. The results further showed that high levels of social media dependency were a detriment to organizations.Originality/valueThis study verified the existence of a social media interactivity paradox in the use of social media for workplace communication. Moreover, results revealed that the effect of social media interactivity on organizational outcomes depends on its respective dimensions.
