The aim of this study is twofold: the first goal is to systemise and summarise the models designed to measure the quality of financial statements, as these reports can form the basis of decision-making for the users. The second goal is to analyse the financial statements prepared by manufacturing companies acting in Baranya Country, from a quality perspective, applying the DeAngelo (1986) model and the modified Jones model (1995). Earnings quality is measured by the change in total accruals divided by total assets, considering a 4-years period of time between 2016 and 2019. Calculating the T-statistic, the amount of total accruals is a negative figure in the covered period. Consequently, it might suggest that managers make some decisions, which have a decreasing impact on earnings level of a company. Although the results of this study show some evidence of earnings management, further investigation is required in order to provide a more confident conclusion.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the earnings quality of companies listed on Mexico’s primary stock market, the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (Bolsa) before and during the global economic crisis of 2008. Previous research has shown that these economic events can have potentially conflicting effects on the quality of earnings of listed companies in capital markets around the world. Design/methodology/approach This paper operationalizes earnings quality based on earnings management. Therefore, four constructs to proxy for earnings quality are developed from previous literature, and multiple regression analysis along with tests of differences across two time periods, 2005–2007 and 2008–2010, are used to determine if there is a significant change in the accounting quality of companies listed on the Bolsa before and after the start of the global economic crisis. Findings Results indicate a statistically significant decrease of earnings quality on three out of the four constructs used to proxy for earnings management. There is only one construct in this category that shows a significant increase of earnings quality. Research limitations/implications There are different number of constructs and methodologies used to test for earnings quality. This study draws on four different constructs on two dimensions of earnings quality from previous literature, but other methodologies and constructs can potentially be used as well, such as discretionary accruals. Furthermore, there is a chance that there can be confounding factors affecting the results of this study besides the effects of the global economic crisis. Finally, the sample used in this study comprises non-financial public companies listed on the Bolsa, which can affect the generalization of the results to countries other than Mexico. Practical implications The results of this study can be of interest to Mexican and foreign investors, standard setters and regulators of the Bolsa, as the results show a strong incentive to manage companies’ earnings using income smoothing in an emerging economy during an economic crisis even after converging to a higher-quality set of accounting standards. Results can also be of interests to investors and regulators in other Latin-American countries with economies similar to that of Mexico. Originality/value This is the first study to test the quality of earnings of Mexican companies before and during the global economic crisis of 2008. Thus, this study contributes to the accounting quality literature by offering evidence showing a significant increase of income smoothing during the global economic crisis for companies listed in a developing economy with a relevant history of economic crises, even when these companies were using recently converged, higher-quality accounting standards.

Forced restatement is the corrections made to published financial statements as prompted by the auditors or regulators due to non-compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) (Palmrose and Scholz, 2004). Forced restatements that are due to aggressive financial irregularities, lead to the impairment of investors' confidence on the quality of financial reporting, increase investors' concerns on managerial opportunistic decision-making, and cause substantial losses to shareholders. Forced restatement creates great concern, not only in developed countries, but also in developing countries, thus threatening local and foreign investments in these markets. The effort to determine early warning signals of firms that warrant investigation, specifically in the emerging country of Malaysia remain significant. The review from this study would be beneficial to the auditors and regulators to intervene earlier in terms of formulating plans and strategies to minimize aggressive managerial behaviour, and investors, customers, and suppliers to identify and avoid firms at risk of requiring a forced restatement. The purpose of this paper is twofold, first, it examines the association of non-executive chairman and the quality of financial earnings and second, it examines the role of audit quality and non-executive chairman in earnings quality. This paper uses the modified jones model and the performance adjusted modified Jones model considering two cash flow methods of total accrual and perform regression analysis on the energy sector firms from the year 2010-2012. The study result does not find any significant association of earnings management and non-executive director and audit quality in the Australian context. This finding raises concerns regarding the effectiveness of such a corporate governance mechanism to maximize monitoring over the operation of the firm.

When Canada already has a set of well- established legal enforcement and investor protection mechanism to control earnings management; and the quality of Canadian GAAP is high, I examine if the accounting quality for Canada can still be improved since its adoption of IFRS mandatorily in 2011. The extant literature argues that IFRS adoption benefits firms domiciled in countries with strong legal and financial institutions. However, when the quality of IFRS is as good as the local standards for many Anglo-Saxon countries such as Canada, it is questionable for these countries to receive substantial economic consequences. Following the literature, I estimate a set of comprehensive measurements of earnings management as the proxies of accounting quality. Empirically, I document evidence that even though the results are mixed, there are still certain significant improvements in accounting quality. However, I find that firms issuing more equities are motivated to associate with lower earnings quality. Also, firms engaging in two distinct strategic directions (prospector vs. defender) have systemically dissimilar effects on earnings quality in IFRS adoption. Finally, I document evidence that firm value following IFRS adoption has been increased, but at the expense of lower accounting quality. Overall, my study shed some lights into the literature that accounting standards per se is not sufficient to ensure a uniform-level of accounting quality because firm-level earnings management motives are important factors too.

Because manufacturing companies have large asset values, they will faceseveral business risks such as making earnings management. Companies with earnings managementcan result in a collapse of the company.The purpose of this study is to be able to analyze the impact of the effect between earningsmanagement and information asymmetry in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia StockExchange (IDX), with the ultimate goal of recommending policies to improve manufacturingmanagement. In this study the type of research is explanatory research using a quantitative approach.The data analysis in this study uses multiple linear regression analysis and path analysis (Pathanalysis) on the financial statements of 300 manufacturing companies from 2013 to 2017.In this study the results for manufacturing companies listed on the Stock Exchange for the period2013-2017 the results are as follows: H1 testing shows that the earnings management withinformation asymmetry has a significant effect. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of female executives on the quality of financial statements of companies in the manufacturing sector. The quality of the company's financial statements can be seen from the tendency of directors of companies to do the earnings management. The object of this research is manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange 2012-2014. This study uses a quantitative approach and tested with the regression model. Independent variables used are Female, Leverage, Loss, M / B Ratio, Revenue Growth, Size, SIC and Year. The dependent variable used is Dicretionary Accruals as a proxy of earnings management. The results of this study indicate that the presence of women as an executive in the company turned out to give a good impact for the company, women tend to be more conservative in choosing strategy, particularly related to the financial statements

This study aims to determine whether the effect of tenure on earnings quality with quality audits are used as intervening variables. The existence of inconsistencies in the results of previous studies on the effect of tenure on audit quality such as Myers et al (2003), Manry et al (2008), Carey and Simnett (2006), Wibowo and Rossieta (2009) led to re-examined this issue to see the effect of tenure on audit quality. In addition, this study also looked at the effects of indirect and direct influence of tenure on earnings quality and tenure through a quality audit of the quality of earnings that will be the test whether the simultaneous influence. Tenure in this study are calculated by looking at how many years the KAP to audit a company, while the audit quality measure using current accruals and earnings quality measure using earnings management. Observational data in this study is a manufacturing company of the year 2006-2010 in accordance with predetermined criteria. The results of this study indicate that significant tenure was positively related to audit quality, tenure can be affected indirectly through a quality audit of the quality of earnings, and tenure through the quality audit can simultaneously affect the quality of earnings.Keywords: Tenure, Quality Audit, Quality of Earnings

The inequality in obtaining information that occurs between the principal and the agent is known as information asymmetry, which provides an opportunity for managers to perform earnings management. Earnings management is done by manipulating various information contained in the financial statements of a company. Good Corporate Governance (GCG) is a solution to minimize earnings management so that the company's condition is healthier, which of course uses certain principles. This study aims to examine the effect of the GCG mechanism on earnings management. The GCG mechanism used in this study consists of independent commissioners, institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and an audit committee. The research population is manufacturing companies in the consumer goods industry sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2015-2019 period using purposive sampling method. The results showed that partially or from each of the GCG mechanisms used by the study, independent commissioners had no effect on earnings management, managerial ownership had no effect on earnings management, institutional ownership had no effect on earnings management, and the audit committee had a significant effect on management. profit. However, simultaneously, independent commissioners, managerial ownership, institutional ownership, and the audit committee have a significant effect on earnings management.

Decision making is an individual activity that is directly involved in obtaining and using the goods offered. Promotion is one of the variables in a marketing mix that is very important to be implemented by a company in marketing its products or services, thus influencing consumers to make purchasing decisions. The quality of the product can also affect consumers in making purchasing decisions. This study aims to analyze the effect of product quality and promotion on purchasing decision of Melon fruit. Population and sample of research is purchasing or buyer from consumer of PT. Syafina Niaga as many as 30 companies and sampling methods using saturated sampling techniques as well as analysis used with regression analysis. The results showed that there is a significant influence between product quality and promotion of purchasing decisions.
