Significance. Significance of the work lies in the need to study the salt composition of the Bureya reservoir water from the beginning of filling, which is important for predicting the water quality of reservoirs in the Amur basin that are to be designed. The objective is to evaluate content of main ions in the water of the Bureya reservoir, and to identify factors determining their spatial and temporal variability. Methods. Hydro/chemical observations in the Bureya reservoir were made from 2003 to 2008 at five plots covering the major part of the water area. Water samples were taken from the surface, middle, and near-bottom horizons in winter, summer, and fall. Water samples were taken from the surface in January, July 2019 in the landslide area and in July 2020 at eight sites in the water body between the landslide and the hydropower dam. Analytical work was carried out according to the methods accepted in hydrochemistry. Materials of the Amur Basin Water Administration for 2005-2019 were used in the work. Results. The content of the main ions in the water of the reservoir during the filling period and the following years was assessed. The dominance of calcium ion among cations and hydrocarbonate ion among anions in the salt composition of water was shown. It is established that the emergence of oxygen deficit in water due to the increased area of flooded forests and reduced water inflow caused the absence of sulfate ion in the reservoir water in autumn and winter 2005. It is shown that staged filling of the reservoir contributed to gradual smoothing of differences in the content of major ions and stabilization of the salt composition of water in the sixth year of filling. In current conditions the content of sodium and potassium ions and chloride ions in the water area of the reservoir is relatively evenly distributed, the highest values of concentrations of calcium and magnesium hydrogen carbonates are observed near the mouth of the Tyrma River. The effect of a large landslide on the content of major ions in the water in 2019-2020 is considered.

Formation of the Zeya Reservoir waters salt composition over many years is considered. Maximum concentration of major ions and mineralization were observed in the bottom layers of water during the reservoir filling, the lowest values and the lack of differences in depth were observed in high-water 1988. A uniform distribution of the major ions concentration in the water area of the reservoir in the present conditions and very low mineralization (<26 mg/dm3) are presented.

The distribution of dissolved chemical elements (major ions, nutrients, and trace elements) in the Yenisei River estuary and adjacent water area in 2009 and 2010 are presented. These results were compared to the data obtained during previous hydrochemical studies of this region. The transport of major cations (Na, K, Mg, Ca) and some trace elements (Rb, Cs, Sr, B, F, As, Mo, U) in the estuary follows conservative mixing. Alkalinity also belongs to conservative components, however this parameter exhibits substantial spatial heterogeneity caused by complex hydrological structure of the Yenisei Bay and adjoining part of the Kara Sea formed under the influence of several sources of desalination and salty waters inflow. Concentrations of Pmin, Si, and V in the desalinized waters of photic layer decrease seaward owing to uptake by phytoplankton. The losses of these elements reach 30–57, 30, and 9% of their supply by river runoff, respectively. The content of dissolved phosphates and vanadium in the intermediate and near-bottom layers of the Yenisei River estuary strongly increases with salinity due to regeneration of precipitated organic matter, whereas silica remineralization is much less pronounced. Barium is characterized by additional input of dissolved forms in the mixing zone in the quantity comparable to that carried out by river runoff. This may be caused by its desorption from river suspended matter due to ion exchange. The transport of dissolved Al and Mn in the estuarine zone is probably controlled by the coagulation and flocculation of organic and organomineral colloids, which is indicated by a decrease in the concentration of these elements at the beginning of the estuary (31 and 56%, respectively) followed by a stable concentration further seaward.

A Treatability Index is developed to allow comparison of different reservoir waters according to their effects on a water treatments works. For the water treatment works which employs rapid gravity filters, the index is the product of the algal concentration, the clarification coefficients of algae and the filtration rate. The index is applied to reservoir waters within Thames Water area. Algae observed in reservoirs are grouped according to their shapes. Among these groups, twenty frequently observed species were selected and their clarification coefficients were measured. The treatability index was then evaluated for different waters and at different times of the year. The results were correlated to the filter run lengths and the development of headloss across the filters.

Cooling reservoirs of thermal power plants represent the special class of natural/ engineering systems with, on the one hand, natural geo/systems as one subsystem and, on the other hand, production/technological units as the other subsystem. Studying of these ecosystems’ functioning regularities seems to be helpful for water quality management and rational organization of water use. Besides, it is topical due to the low level of the relevant knowledge in the North of the Western Siberia. The authors for the first time in the Middle Ob Region have carried out a two-year session of monitoring of hydro/chemical indicators and temperature regime of the thermal power plants cooling reservoirs in the riparian stripe of water area. All previous investigations were done only by industrial water users within the frameworks of production monitoring in terms of three indicators in three points of the cooling reservoir water area downstream the power plant dam. Spatial distribution of concentrations of biogenic ions, salt composition, pH, organic matter, and metals in specific natural/technological system of the Surgut hthermal power plants’ reservoirs has been analyzed for the first time for the conditions of the Western Siberian taiga zone. Sources of anthropogenic pressure upon a water body have been identified. According the results of the indicators’ spatial distribution analysis three sections of the Surgut reservoir water area have been separated: a background section of the Chernaya River; a section upstream the dam with predominantly recreational character of the anthropogenic pressure; and a sectio0n downstream the dam with anthropogenic pressure of technological origin. According the outcomes of the correlation analysis indicators of the anthropogenic pressure character have been reveald.

Abstract Tourism is one of the important economic sectors in Indonesia. In 2009, tourism ranked third in terms of foreign exchange earnings after oil and gas commodities and palm oil. (Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2009). Based on data in 2016, the number of foreign tours coming to Indonesia amounted to 11,525,963 million or grew by 10.79% compared to the previous year. The natural and cultural wealth is a critical component in increasing tourism in Indonesia. Because of the importance of tourism to the Indonesian economic sector, several regions in Indonesia need to be considered and developed by local government tourism objects.

The present study reports on a four sampling period (April 2008-July 2008-November 2008-February 2009) study of water quality in streams of NE Chalkidiki. A total of 80 surface water samples were collected and analysed for the major ions Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, Cl- , HCO3 - , SO4 2-, NO3 - and the trace elements Pb, Fe, Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Zn, Mn and As. Also pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Temperature, as well as the stream water discharge at each sampling point, were determined in the field. The treatment and the subsequent evaluation of the data showed that the water samples are divided into three separate groups, reflecting the chemistry of water in the three sub-basins of the area i.e., Kokkinolakkas, Kerasia and Piavitsa. The water of the first one is possibly affected by the past mining activities of the area, whereas samples from the other two reflect the influence of sulphide mineralization on the hydrogeochemistry of the corresponding streams. No effect of the seasonal differentiation of stream water discharge was observed.

Hydrogeological conditions of reservoir waters of oil and gas fields in the northern water area of the Caspian Sea characterize the geological features of the structure of the Northern Caspian shelf, as well as the thermodynamic parameters of the exploitation of productive deposits, production and transportation of oil and gas. Reservoir waters contain water-soluble gases. According to the size of mineralization, the ratio of the main components of the salt composition, as well as the presence of iodine and bromine, reservoir waters can be attributed to a relatively "young" genetic age, subject to secondary geochemical processes of changing the salt composition in interaction with "secondary" migrated hydrocarbons. The physical and chemical properties of reservoir waters are determined by PVT analysis technologies. Hydrogeological and geochemical studies of compatibility with reservoir waters of marine waters injected to maintain reservoir pressures (PPD) during the development of offshore fields in order to increase the oil recovery coefficient (KIN) indicate the absence of colmating secondary sedimentation in mixtures of natural and man-made waters.

A total of 338 water samples were collected at 20 stations from three geographically shellfish-growing areas in Chesapeake Bay from May to September 1989. Samples were examined for standard plate count, total coliforms, fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli and coliphages. Salinity, dissolved oxygen and temperature varied slightly with the depth, season, and geographic area of water samples. The geometric means of standard plate count for the three areas were 135, 355 and 275/ml, respectively. The range of means of fecal coliform for these areas was from &lt;3 to 93/100 mi. Escherichia coli counts were also low with a range of &lt;3 to 93/100 mi and a mean of &lt; 3/100 mi. The growing water area adjacent to cropland was found to have higher bacterial counts than those of the other two areas. Levels of male-specific phages were very low. Results indicate that shellfish-growing waters in all three areas were of satisfactory bacteriological quality.

The highest level of the organisms was 97·3 × 106and 2·3 × 107/100 g in sediments andC. retropictusrespectively.Production of Kanagawa haemolysin was detected in approximately 12% and 20% of strains isolated from sediments andC. retropictusrespectively at two stations in Hashizu Creek but were not detected at the other three stations. Two haemolysin-producing strains were isolated from water samples but none were isolated fromCorbicula japonica(bivalve molluse). These findings suggest that haemolysin producers are preserved principally in sediments and some shellfish in the brackish-water areas with restricted salinity conditions.

Due to a lack of water-quality studies compared with water-quantity studies, an investigation into the factors influencing the hydrochemical composition of the rivers in the Tianshan and Altay Mountains was conducted with a model of multiple linear regression, while the suitability of the water quality for irrigation and the health risks of arsenic (As) were assessed with classical evaluation methods. The results suggest that 44.0% of the water samples from the Altay Mountains fell into the Ca-HCO3 category type, 48.0% of the water samples were of the Ca-HCO3-Cl type, and the remaining samples belonged to the Ca-Na-HCO3-Cl type. In the Tianshan Mountain area, 58.6% of the water samples fell into the Ca-HCO3 hydrochemical category, 20.7% of the water samples were of the Ca-HCO3-Cl type, and 20.7% of the water samples belonged to the Ca-Na-HCO3-Cl type. The major ions in the water were dominated by the control of the water and rock interaction. The interaction between water and rock in the Altay area controlled 69.2% of the overall variance in the As content in the river waters, and it dominated 76.2% of the variance in the Tianshan region. The river waters in the Altay and Tianshan Mountain regions are suitable for agricultural irrigation with excellent-to-good water quality. The results also suggest that there is no non-carcinogenic risk and that the carcinogenic risk is between the acceptable/tolerable risk range of 10−6–10−4, except only one sample in Tianshan Mountain region. The research methodology provided a reference for revealing the potential sources of toxic element pollution, and the results provided a scientific basis for regional agricultural irrigation, as well as a reference for decision making on the environmental protection of the watershed.
