Approximately one-third of the K-12 student population attends school in areas identified as rural/small town. Rural schools offer counselors unique opportunities to lead by guiding students’ education in directions that best fit their career aspirations, thus impacting the region educationally, economically and socially. The purpose of this paper is to identify the leadership role of school counselors in rural communities as identified by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). Numerous challenges and opportunities inherent rural settings have been identified and suggestions offered as to ways in which counselors can effectively undertake leadership roles.

What is the function of clerical leadership in Alevism based on sociocultural and political understandings? To answer that complex question, Deniz Cosan Eke examines the political, cultural, and religious debates surrounding Alevis and the Alevi movement in relation to the ideas and claims of the Turkish state, Alevi communities in Turkey, and migrant Alevi communities in Germany. The book, which focuses on the emergence of collective emotions in religious rituals, the struggle of religious groups in migration processes, and the leadership role of clergy in social movements, is of great interest to a wide readership.

SUMMARYThe role of wild meat for subsistence or as a luxury good is debated. We investigated the role of wild meat in food security in Madagascar, where consumption is poorly understood in urban areas and at regional scales. Using semi-structured interviews (n = 1339 heads-of-households, 21 towns), we aimed to: (1) quantify the amount and purpose of, (2) understand the drivers of, and (3) examine changes in wild meat consumption. Few respondents preferred wild meat (8 ± 3%) but most had eaten it at least once in their lifetime (78 ± 7%). Consumption occurred across ethnic groups, in urban and rural settings. More food insecure areas reported higher rates of wild meat consumption in the 6–8 months prior to interviews. Consumption was best explained by individual preferences and taboos. Less than 1% of respondents had increased consumption during their lifetimes. Wild meat prices showed no change from 2005–2013. Most consumption involved wild pigs and smaller-sized animals, though they were consumed less in the years following the 2009 coup. These data illustrate the differences between urban and rural communities, the occasions in which wild meat is used a source of food security, and provide evidence that some taxa are not hunted sustainably in Madagascar.

Abstract By definition, older adults living in rural communities have fewer formal resources available to address aging-related functional needs. Supportive environments are frequently relied on in rural settings to help address this discrepancy. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of supportive housing features and home modifications in mediating the association between rurality and disability. We hypothesized that environmental supports would be more crucial in rural settings than non-rural settings. We analyzed data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS). Variable selection was guided by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), including covariates for sociodemographics, chronic conditions, mobility functioning, and participation. A series of regression models tested mediation by environmental variables of the association between rurality (as determined by the metro/nonmetro file indicator) and ADL/IADL disability. Supportive home environments were operationalized using indicators of whether participants had access to homes from the outside without having to use stairs; presence of a bedroom, kitchen, and full bathroom with a shower or tub on the same floor; and whether bathroom fixtures had been modified with features such as grab bars. Results suggest a statistical relationship between rurality and disability that is explained in part by the presence or lack of supportive home features, and these effects were greater in rural settings. Implications are that older adults who live in rural settings can benefit greatly by supportive environments and modifications in areas of the home that are known to cause difficulty.

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model for School Counseling highlights the role of professional school counselors in supporting the academic, personal social and career development of students. The ASCA Model further emphasizes the role of school counselors as leaders, advocates, consultants and collaborators for student development. The 2010 Ethical Standards for School Counselors further highlights students' rights to be treated with respect and dignity as well as their entitlement to a safe school environment that is free from abuse. This chapter explores the role of school counselors in working collaboratively to prevent and address sexual misconduct in schools. The author takes the position that the existence of sexual misconduct in any form hinders student development and directly undermines the efforts of educators to support their growth. The chapter emphasizes the importance collaboration, collective responsibility and the adoption of policies that effectively prevent and address sexual misconduct in schools.

This research was conducted to find out how much influence the leadership and compensation have on the performance of the employees of PT Taiho Nusantara partially and simultaneously. The method used in this research is descriptive and verification. The population is all employees of PT Tiho Nusantara by taking 105 employee samples. The data collection techniques are through interviews, questionnaires and observations, and data analysis used Path Analysis. The results showed that the correlation between variables X1 and X2 obtained the magnitude of the correlation coefficient between the independent variables, namely the role of leadership (X1) with compensation (X2) can be valued at 0.875. Thus the role of leadership (X1) with compensation (X2) has a strong and two-way relationship because of its positive value. And for the influence of the leadership role variable (X1) on employee performance variables (Y) is 0.382. This shows that the direct influence of the leadership role variable (X1) on employee performance variables (Y) is 0.392 so that the equation Y = 0.382 X1 is obtained. And the results for the Compensation variable (X2) against employee performance variables (Y) are 0.587. This shows that the direct effect of the Compensation variable (X2) on employee performance (Y) is equal to 0.575 so that the equation Y = 0.587 X2 is obtained. Then the path of the storage role variable (0.382) is lower than the compensation variable (0.587), meaning that compensation (X2) has more influence on employee performance (Y). While the influence of leadership roles (X1) and compensation (X2) simultaneously (overall) on employee performance (Y) with the result that the value of sig. (0,000) <α (0.05) and tcount (379,050)> ftable (3.09) then Ho is rejected. Thus it can be concluded that the role of leadership and compensation simultaneously influences the performance of its employees.

This project focused on the connection between a community and its schools, and the role that schools play in rural community vitality. It investigated both community members and former student experience with small schools in one rural area of Ontario, Canada. Community responses indicate that rural schools play a considerable role in the well-being of community members; former student responses indicate similar themes. Results indicated a strong link between local schools and components of the Canadian Index of Well-being. Discussion focuses on the gap between the role of schools in rural communities and the provincial policies on school closures, and how the findings suggest that new approaches to the challenges of small rural schools are in the best interests of both students and communities.

This study examined inequalities in college knowledge across the high school years. Twelfth graders had significantly more college knowledge than ninth and 10th graders. Although college knowledge increased during high school among both first- and continuing-generation college-going students, we found significant between-group differences. Continuing-generation students had significantly more college knowledge than first-generation students, and the gap between groups widened across the high school years. School counselors are uniquely positioned within the K–12 education system to address inequalities such as the college knowledge gap through their roles as educators and leaders.

Student sex-based harassment has a negative impact on individual students and on the school environment. This review of the literature describes the evolution of sex-based harassment from elementary through high school, clarifies the relationship between bullying and sex-based harassment, and summarizes the research-based system and individual factors that support the development of such harassment in schools. Based on the research, we recommend the adoption of a comprehensive planning process for prevention that addresses the factors that reinforce student sex-based harassment and supports the school’s bullying prevention efforts. School counselors can advocate for and play a leadership role in both developing and implementing a school-wide plan that includes needs assessment and evaluation. We offer suggestions for system-wide and individual interventions for school personnel and Tier 1–3 prevention and problem-solving interventions for students to support a healthy school environment free of sex-based harassment.

<strong>English</strong><br />Rural communities in Gunung Ciremai National Park (GCNP) are generally low income farmers. Farms that have long been adopted agroforestry farming systems through inter generation legacy. The existing agroforestry technology applied by the farmers remains the simple traditional technology, so that the crops yields and income are low. Understanding the determinants of farmers’ income is useful in formulating the appropriate policy for increasing farmers’ income. This study was aimed to analyze the level and determinants of  the  agroforestry farmers income in GCNP. This research was conducted in Kuningan and Majalengka Regency, West Java Province,  in July to October 2017. The data was collected by interviewing 310 agroforestry farmers which were selected using the cluster random sampling technique with clusters consisted of the locations of farmer groups from agroforestry in the GCNP buffer zone. The data was analized using descriptive statistics and regression inferential statistics. The results show that the income of agroforestry farmers was low because of low agroforestry farmers’ capacity, weak extension support and weak leadership role of  informal leaders. Supports of the forestry extension service and informal leaders' leadership roles are needed for enhancing the agroforestry farmers’ capacity  in increasing their income.<br /><br /><br /><strong>Indonesian</strong><br />Masyarakat perdesaan di lingkungan Taman Nasional Gunung Ciremai (TNGC) umumnya adalah petani kurang sejahtera yang telah lama menekuni agroforestri turun-temurun.
