This article describes a new learning model in biotechnology learning. The proposed model was designed while considering the development of 21st century skills using learning models that can enhance creative thinking and collaboration skills. Using a mixed-method (qualitative and quantitative) approach, the authors aimed at identifying the effect of the Identify, Literature Review, Construct, Create, and Communicate Learning Model implemented on Biology and Natural Science undergraduate students. As an example, we illustrate the proposed data collection technique for the assessment of creative thinking and collaboration skills using a written test and observation data, respectively. Our proposed learning model developed students' creative thinking and collaboration skills in two classes with 113 participants who enrolled in a course in Biotechnology. The new model's effectiveness is confirmed by calculating the overall mean scores of creative thinking assessment in the Biology and Natural Science classes, which are 87.42% and 92%, respectively, with an excellent category. Similarly, the results regarding students' collaboration skills in the Biology and Natural Science classes showed the scores of 84.06% and 84.94%, respectively, also with an excellent category. Our findings reveal that students' creative thinking and collaboration skills can be developed by using the Identify, Literature Review, Construct, Create, and Communicate learning model. The model can thus be used for enhancing other 21st century skills, such as critical thinking and communication skills, among others.

The study aims to design and develop a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system to enhance the communication and collaboration skills of higher education learners in the ASEAN cultural community. The system was developed based on a literature review of ASEAN to identity its educational goals for 2015, as well as the subjects of open learning, VLE, active learning, activity based learning, ASEAN cultural community, and collaboration and communication skills in 21st century. The results of the literature review were developed into a questionnaire for 400 higher education instructors. The survey results were then tabulated using G* Power and were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to find the core elements to be developed to be an appropriate VLE system. The resulting system was tested using a sample group of 30 volunteer undergraduate students from 5 ASEAN member countries. Data analysis using t-test dependent indicated that there was statistical difference between pre and post self-assessment scores of the 21st century skills in communication and collaboration at a 0.05 level of significance. The result was consistent with the results of behavior and trace observations and the quality of project assignments produced using the system. The system developed consisted of four elements was approved by experts in the education field.

Education in the 21st Century is expected to produce human resources that have the ability to face the challenges in the development of science and technology so fast. 21st Century skills that need to be developed in students include critical thinking skills, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication. This research has purpose to determine the effectiveness of the model of Problem Based Learning (PBL) aided mind mapping to increase creative thinking skills and student collaboration. Type of research was mixed methods research design sequential exploratory. The sample of the research were 30 students of grade VIII D consisting of 16 male students and 14 female students. The analysis of the data in this research using qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. The results showed that there is an increase in scores obtained by students in creative thinking and collaboration skills. The benefits of this research for educators are to provide effective learning model reference to be used in developing the creative thinking skills and student collaboration. Based on the result of the research, can be concluded that the PBL teaching model with mind mapping in motion and force effective to be applied in developing the creative thinking skills and student collaboration.

Skills needed to be successful in the world have changed, and there is a gap between those learned at school and those required to function at work and in society. A broader range of skills is required to learn, communicate, collaborate, and solve problems in digital environments. Twenty-first century skills have been identified by UNESCO, OECD, and others as competences required for a sustainable future of the knowledge society. The aim was to learn the design principles involved in the incorporation of these skills into the curriculum, find out possible ways to teach and assess them, and examine how this process could be personalized using Information and Communications Technology (ICT). A literature review was carried out through a qualitative metasynthesis, which identified 43 studies that met the inclusion criteria. From the in-depth analysis, it can be seen that although the incorporation of 21st century skills into the curriculum, teaching methodologies, and the use of ICT are all recurrent themes, there is still a need for further research into the design and implementation of new instruments for assessment and the ways in which the teaching–learning process can be personalized.

The ability to think creatively is an important ability in mathematics to deal with the demands of the 21st century. One learning model that can improve students' mathematical creative thinking skills is Project Based Learning. This study aims to determine the improvement of students' mathematical creative thinking abilities through Project Based Learning using Transformation Gymnastics and Tetris GeoGebra. Research instruments used in this study is a test in the form of description, consisting of pretest and posttest that measures the ability of mathematical creative thinking including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Data analysis includes tests of normality, homogeneity, and t-test using SPSS application assistance. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the value of students' creative thinking abilities, both in classrooms with Project Based Learning using Transformation Gymnastics and in classrooms with Project Based Learning using Tetris GeoGebra. There was no significant difference between the average posttest in the two classes. Thus, the two project tasks used in this Project Based Learning can be used in learning Transformation material.

AbstractThis research was instigated by the low of students creative thinking ability at State Senior High School 1 Perhentian Raja. This research aimed at knowing the effect of implementing Guided Inquiry learning model with student workbook toward student creative thinking ability on Colloid lesson at State Senior High School 1 Perhentian Raja.  It was Quasi Experimental research.  Simple Random Sampling technique was used in this research.  The samples comprised two classes, the eleventh-grade students of Natural Science 1 that were 33 students as the Control group and the students of Natural Science 2 that were 32 studentsas the Experimental group. The techniques of collecting the data were tests in the form of homogeneity test as the preliminary data, pretest and posttest as the final data, observation, and documentation. The instrument of this research was creative thinking ability test in the form of essay with the indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The pretest and posttest data were analyzed by using t test at 5% significant level.  The research findings showed that there was a significant effect of implementing Guided Inquiry learning model with student workbook toward student creative thinking ability on Colloid lesson that t was 4.268 and the score of Sig. Natural science and environmental learning in the 21st century require Higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The purpose of this study was to develop an ILMIZI learning model. The method used is research and development carried out in June-July 2019. The results of the study showed that the ILMIZI model syntax consists of 6 stages, start from Identify problem, Limitation problem, Make mind map, Interpret result, Analyze result, Interaction and evaluate. The six stages are the results of development which are expected to have an impact on the rise of HOTS. Validation results from various learning experts and teachers showed a score of 3.74 with a percentage of  93.50%  and a very valid category which means that the ILMIZI model is suitable for use in natural science learning (biology, physics, chemistry) and environmental learning at all levels of education. The conclusion is that the ILMIZI learning model was suitable for learning and expected to have an impact on HOTS students

This study brings attention to the determinants of 21st-century skills and 21st-century digital skills. The following skills are investigated: technical, information, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. To understand differences in the level of these skills among workers, we need to know the factors that determine an individual’s skill level. A systematic literature review was conducted to provide a comprehensive overview of empirical studies measuring skill determinants. The results show that there is strong need for research on determinants of communication and collaboration skills. In a digital context, determinants for creativity and critical thinking are hardly studied. Furthermore, the identified determinants of 21st-century skills studies are limited to personality and psychological determinants, neglecting, for example, social determinants such as social support. Although digital skills studies show more variety, they mostly cover demographic and socioeconomic determinants.

Teachers face the challenges in producing students with 21st-century basic skills encompassing communication, collaborative, critical and creative thinking, as well as values and ethical. The reasons are the teachers do not have enough knowledge and skills to implement student-centered teaching, applying 21st-century basic skills, and teachers’ thinking skills which are metacognition is at a low level. To overcome this problem, the Metacogni-tive Skills Training Module in the Teaching and Application of 21st Centu-ry Basic Skills (M-PA21) was developed. The training module needs to be evaluated for usability to see if it can solve the teachers’ existing problems. Therefore, the study aims to evaluate the usability of the M-PA21 module to improve the teachers’ metacognitive regulation in teaching. Evaluation of module usability was conducted through field test involving 16 respond-ents consisting of secondary school teachers. The data collection was done through module usability questionnaire, micro-teaching observation, and document analysis. The questionnaires of module usability were analyzed using SPSS version 24.0 by determining mean value, while observation data was analyzed thematic. Document analysis supports the evaluation of ques-tionnaires and observation findings. Overall, the findings show that the M-PA21 module can enhance teachers’ metacognitive regulation in the teach-ing and application of basic skills of the 21st century
