Word problems are still one of the causes of students' difficulties in learning mathematics. The four stages of problem solving suggested by Polya are: (1) understanding the problem, (2) planning a strategy, (3) implementing the strategy, and (4) checking and interpreting the results. One of the strategies to solve word problems that can be applied is by making diagram. The bar diagram model is a form of visual representation that can help students to solve word problems. The use of bar diagram in solving word problems can be a strategy for students to bridge the transition from understanding problems and making mathematical expressions. The process of creating a bar diagram model represents a visualization of known and unknown information and helps to identify how this information can be used to solve the problems. This paper discusses problem solving stages using bar diagram to solve word problems.

This article is a best practice implemented by applying the learning model of SPS-Bansho (Structured Problem Solving using Bansho) at SMPN 18 Tangerang. This best practice has succeeded in increasing students’ mathematics learning activities during the learning process. The observation sheet was used to observe the students’ mathematics learning activities. All indicators of students’ mathematics learning activities were observed during the learning process. Students were challenged more to ask questions during a group or class discussions. They were able to respond to their friends' opinions well, participate in groups, and help friends in completing assignments. Students presented their work in front of the class, and they could summarize the material they have learned.

Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) is one of the improvements on the learning evaluation provided by the government so far. The AKM is implemented to measure the literacy and numeracy abilities of Indonesia students, due to the low achievement of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This article is a literature study discussing AKM from the Educational Philosophy point of view, concerning the Ontology, Epistemology, and Axiology of the AKM. The study concludes that AKM is feasible to implement for improving the literacy and numeracy of students in Indonesia.

Mathematics is taught to equip students with the ability in using mathematical knowledge and skills to solve problems in life. The context of learning activities should develop the skills dealing with problem solving. Mathematics learning activities during the pandemic era are often carried out by providing material and discussion of the exercise items both online and offline mode. Learning achievements show that students' critical and creative thinking skills have not developed well. This study is the result of a literature review to examine the LowCost STEM approach in learning in grade 2 elementary schools. The results of the study conclude that Low Cost STEM learning can be carried out with activities both problem-based learning and project-based learning using the five stages of the Engineering Design Process. The final result of the learning is in the form of a bridge rope model product made of paper.

This study aims to determine the types of mistakes as well as the causative factors to this mistakes, of the fifth grade elementary school students in solving problemson fraction. The research applies a qualitative descriptive method. The research subjects taken were 28 grade 5 students at 55 Lubuklinggau public elementary school. The data were collected using the techniques of interview observation, questions and documentation. The data analysis technique used in this research is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that the types of mistakesexperienced by students in solving mathematical problem were (1) factual errors, in which students assume that studying fraction is hard since it will face with lots of mathematical calculations operation that is difficult to understand. (2) students did not understand the essence of the mathematical problem, as a result they did not grasp the way to solve it. (3) students understand the formula but could not write the steps in solving the problem, and (4) students can not solve the problem correctly in terms of calculating addition, subtraction, and division operations. The factors causing mistakes in solving mathematical problems are (1) student’s internal factor, it is their low interest, (2) external factor, like the family environment which is less helpful in learning fraction.

This research aims to describe the number formation strategy as an application form of the Pythagorean theorem. A number formation strategy to simplify calculations on the application of the Pythagorean theorem is needed since many mathematical problems solving involve Pythagorean theorem. In some mathematical problems, the Pythagorean theorem is only used as a tool to answer the real problem, for example is a problem in Geometric. This research applies a literature review method. There are three steps should be met to use the number formation strategy in this paper, namely: (1) ensuring that the two side lengths of a right triangle have the same factor, (2) changing integers other than the same factor (if it is the same, select one) becomes the root number, and (3) determining the side in question, if what is being asked is the longest side (hypothenuse) then the two numbers in the same root (radicand) must be added, otherwise if what is being asked is not the hypotenuse (not the longest side), then the two radicans must be subtracted while still being positive.

Mathematical literacy is a basic literation skill that is important for students. The ability of Indonesian students on mathematical literacy is still far behind compared to other countries. Efforts are needed to improve learning in developing students' mathematical literacy skills to be even better. This article aims to examine the main literature sources on mathematical literacy and describe alternative conceptual foundations for developing mathematical literacy that can be further improved and applied in schools. This article presents the understanding of mathematical literacy from several points of view, the objectives of mathematical literacy and its development concept referring to the main and supporting literature sources. Interpretation of several concepts in the literature was done by understanding the perspective on mathematics and describing it narratively. Recommendations and conclusions on the development of mathematical literacy skills that can be further developed in learning planning is presented at the end of the article.

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in a variety of educational activities creates lots of conveniences, increases effectiveness and efficiency. It is believed that the use of ICT in the educational process makes learning more interesting, enables explaining the concept more clearly, foster creativity, collaborative skills and many more. Due to the fact that the students are millennial generation, who is quite familiar with ICT in their daily life, the use of ICT is important. In learning mathematics, GeoGebra which is dynamic open source software can be used as a teaching and learning tool for mathematics. However, some are still unaware of the benefits of using GeoGebra to learn mathematics. This article discusses the various benefits of using GeoGebra in mathematics teaching and learning, and several studies that support it. The advantages of using GeoGebra in mathematics teaching and learning are as follows: GeoGebra might be used to demonstrate or visualize mathematical concepts, as well as a means of constructing mathematical concepts. The use of GeoGebra in mathematics learning can foster mathematical reasoning, creativity, support collaboration, involve students more in the learning process. And, the more involved, more effective and efficient the learning is.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan keterampilan dosen model matematika dan hasil belajar mahasiswa dalam praktik lesson study. Kegiatan lesson study memiliki tiga tahapan, yakni perencanaan (plan), praktik pembelajaran (do), dan observasi dan refleksi (see).

This research aims to find and describe  the philosophy concept of progressivism and the persepctive toward the learning process in the era of Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the perspective toward learning, educators and students.  This research is a library research using books and electronic scientific articles as data sources. In collecting the data, researchers browse online data through the Google scholar database. While the data analysis applied in this study is the content analysis method. The research results show that progressivism as an educational philosophy plays an important role in providing a basis for developing a flexible learning system adapting to the progress and development of science and technology, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
