The whole world is changing rapidly with current innovations, using the Internet, has become a fundamental requirement in people's lives. Nowadays, a massive amount of data made by social networks based on daily user activities. Gathering and analyzing people's opinions are crucial for business applications when they are extracted and analyzed accurately. This data helps the corporations to improve product quality and provide better customer service. But manually analyzing opinions is an impossible task because the content is unorganized. For this reason, we applied sentiment analysis that is the process of extracting and analyzing the unorganized data automatically. The primary steps to perform sentiment analysis include data collection, pre-processing, word embedding, sentiment detection, and classification using deep learning techniques. This work focused on the binary classification of sentiments for three product reviews of fast-food restaurants. Twitter is chosen as the source of data to perform analysis. All tweets were collected automatically by using Tweepy. The experimented dataset divided into half of the positive and half of the negative tweets. In this paper, three deep learning techniques implemented, which are Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Bi-Directional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM), and CNN-Bi-LSTM, The performance of each of them measured and compared in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score Finally, Bi-LSTM scored the highest performance in all metrics compared to the two other techniques.

Abstract In the modern era, Internet usage has become a basic necessity in the lives of people. Nowadays, people can perform online shopping and check the customer’s views about products that purchased online. Social networking services enable users to post opinions on public platforms. Analyzing people’s opinions helps corporations to improve the quality of products and provide better customer service. However, analyzing this content manually is a daunting task. Therefore, we implemented sentiment analysis to make the process automatically. The entire process includes data collection, pre-processing, word embedding, sentiment detection and classification using deep learning techniques. Twitter was chosen as the source of data collection and tweets collected automatically by using Tweepy. In this paper, three deep learning techniques were implemented, which are CNN, Bi-LSTM and CNN-Bi-LSTM. Each of the models trained on three datasets consists of 50K, 100K and 200K tweets. The experimental result revealed that, with the increasing amount of training data size, the performance of the models improved, especially the performance of the Bi-LSTM model. When the model trained on the 200K dataset, it achieved about 3% higher accuracy than the 100K dataset and achieved about 7% higher accuracy than the 50K dataset. Finally, the Bi-LSTM model scored the highest performance in all metrics and achieved an accuracy of 95.35%.

With the increase in E-Commerce businesses in the last decade,the sentiment analysis of product reviews has gained a lot of attention in linguistic research. In literature, the survey depicts the majority of the research done emphasizes on mere polarity identification of the reviews. The proposed system emphasized on classifying the sentiment polarity and the product aspect identification from the reviews. Proposed work experimented with traditional machine learning techniques as well as deep neural networks such as Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) and Long Short Term Memory(LSTM) Networks. The proposed system gives a better understanding of these algorithms by comparing the outcomes. The Deep Learning approach in the proposed work successfully provides a mechanism which identifies the review polarity and intensity of the reviews and also analyses the short form words used by people in the reviews. The experimental results in this work, applied on amazon product dataset, shows that the LSTM model works the best for sentiment analysis and intensity of reviews with 93% accuracy. This research work also predicts polarity for short-form word reviews which is the common trend these days while writing the reviews.

We describe the sentiment analysis experiments that were performed on the Lithuanian Internet comment dataset using traditional machine learning (Naïve Bayes Multinomial—NBM and Support Vector Machine—SVM) and deep learning (Long Short-Term Memory—LSTM and Convolutional Neural Network—CNN) approaches. The traditional machine learning techniques were used with the features based on the lexical, morphological, and character information. The deep learning approaches were applied on the top of two types of word embeddings (Vord2Vec continuous bag-of-words with negative sampling and FastText). Both traditional and deep learning approaches had to solve the positive/negative/neutral sentiment classification task on the balanced and full dataset versions. The best deep learning results (reaching 0.706 of accuracy) were achieved on the full dataset with CNN applied on top of the FastText embeddings, replaced emoticons, and eliminated diacritics. The traditional machine learning approaches demonstrated the best performance (0.735 of accuracy) on the full dataset with the NBM method, replaced emoticons, restored diacritics, and lemma unigrams as features. Although traditional machine learning approaches were superior when compared to the deep learning methods; deep learning demonstrated good results when applied on the small datasets.

Abstract Twitter sentiment analysis is an automated process of analyzing the text data which determining the opinion or feeling of public tweets from the various fields. For example, in marketing field, political field huge number of tweets is posting with hash tags every moment via internet from one user to another user. This sentiment analysis is a challenging task for the researchers mainly to correct interpretation of context in which certain tweet words are difficult to evaluate what truly is negative and positive statement from the huge corpus of tweet data. This problem violates the integrity of the system and the user reliability can be significantly reduced. In this paper, we identify the each tweet word and we are assigning a meaning into it. The feature work is combined with tweet words, word2vec, stop words and integrated into the deep learning techniques of Convolution neural network model and Long short Term Memory, these algorithms can identify the pattern of stop word counts with its own strategy. Those two models are well trained and applied for IMDB dataset which contains 50,000 movie reviews. With huge amount of twitter data is processed for predicting the sentimental tweets for classification. With the proposed methodology, the samples are experimentally collected from the real-time environment can be discriminated well and the efficacy of the system is improved. The result of Deep Learning algorithms aims to rate the review tweets and also able to identify movie review with testing accuracy as 87.74% and 88.02%.

Background: Sentiment analysis is a contextual mining of text which determines viewpoint of users with respect to some sentimental topics commonly present at social networking websites. Twitter is one of the social sites where people express their opinion about any topic in the form of tweets. These tweets can be examined using various sentiment classification methods to find the opinion of users. Traditional sentiment analysis methods use manually extracted features for opinion classification. The manual feature extraction process is a complicated task since it requires predefined sentiment lexicons. On the other hand, deep learning methods automatically extract relevant features from data hence; they provide better performance and richer representation competency than the traditional methods. Objective: The main aim of this paper is to enhance the sentiment classification accuracy and to reduce the computational cost. Method: To achieve the objective, a hybrid deep learning model, based on convolution neural network and bi-directional long-short term memory neural network has been introduced. Results: The proposed sentiment classification method achieves the highest accuracy for the most of the datasets. Further, from the statistical analysis efficacy of the proposed method has been validated. Conclusion: Sentiment classification accuracy can be improved by creating veracious hybrid models. Moreover, performance can also be enhanced by tuning the hyper parameters of deep leaning models.

Pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) records are important as they provide documentation that M&R treatment is being performed and completed appropriately. Moreover, the development of pavement performance models relies heavily on the quality of the condition data collected and on the M&R records. However, the history of pavement M&R activities is often missing or unavailable to highway agencies for many reasons. Without accurate M&R records, it is difficult to determine if a condition change between two consecutive inspections is the result of M&R intervention, deterioration, or measurement errors. In this paper, we employed deep-learning networks of a convolutional neural network (CNN) model, a long short-term memory (LSTM) model, and a CNN-LSTM combination model to automatically detect if an M&R treatment was applied to a pavement section during a given time period. Unlike conventional analysis methods so far followed, deep-learning techniques do not require any feature extraction. The maximum accuracy obtained for test data is 87.5% using CNN-LSTM.

(1) Background: Deep learning has become ubiquitous due to its impressive performance in various domains, such as varied as computer vision, natural language and speech processing, and game-playing. In this work, we investigated the performance of recent deep learning approaches on the laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) diagnosis task. (2) Methods: Our dataset is composed of 114 subjects with 37 pH-positive cases and 77 control cases. In contrast to prior work based on either reflux finding score (RFS) or pH monitoring, we directly take laryngoscope images as inputs to neural networks, as laryngoscopy is the most common and simple diagnostic method. The diagnosis task is formulated as a binary classification problem. We first tested a powerful backbone network that incorporates residual modules, attention mechanism and data augmentation. Furthermore, recent methods in transfer learning and few-shot learning were investigated. (3) Results: On our dataset, the performance is the best test classification accuracy is 73.4%, while the best AUC value is 76.2%. (4) Conclusions: This study demonstrates that deep learning techniques can be applied to classify LPR images automatically. Although the number of pH-positive images used for training is limited, deep network can still be capable of learning discriminant features with the advantage of technique.

Sentiment analysis (SA) aims to extract users’ opinions automatically from their posts and comments. Almost all prior works have used machine learning algorithms. Recently, SA research has shown promising performance in using the deep learning approach. However, deep learning is greedy and requires large datasets to learn, so it takes more time for data annotation. In this research, we proposed a semiautomatic approach using Naïve Bayes (NB) to annotate a new dataset in order to reduce the human effort and time spent on the annotation process. We created a dataset for the purpose of training and testing the classifier by collecting Saudi dialect tweets. The dataset produced from the semiautomatic model was then used to train and test deep learning classifiers to perform Saudi dialect SA. The accuracy achieved by the NB classifier was 83%. The trained semiautomatic model was used to annotate the new dataset before it was fed into the deep learning classifiers. The three deep learning classifiers tested in this research were convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) and bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM). Support vector machine (SVM) was used as the baseline for comparison. Overall, the performance of the deep learning classifiers exceeded that of SVM. The results showed that CNN reported the highest performance. On one hand, the performance of Bi-LSTM was higher than that of LSTM and SVM, and, on the other hand, the performance of LSTM was higher than that of SVM. The proposed semiautomatic annotation approach is usable and promising to increase speed and save time and effort in the annotation process.

Sentiment analysis has gained a lot of attention from researchers in the last year because it has been widely applied to a variety of application domains such as business, government, education, sports, tourism, biomedicine, and telecommunication services. Sentiment analysis is an automated computational method for studying or evaluating sentiments, feelings, and emotions expressed as comments, feedbacks, or critiques. The sentiment analysis process can be automated using machine learning techniques, which analyses text patterns faster. The supervised machine learning technique is the most used mechanism for sentiment analysis. The proposed work discusses the flow of sentiment analysis process and investigates the common supervised machine learning techniques such as multinomial naive bayes, Bernoulli naive bayes, logistic regression, support vector machine, random forest, K-nearest neighbor, decision tree, and deep learning techniques such as Long Short-Term Memory and Convolution Neural Network. The work examines such learning methods using standard data set and the experimental results of sentiment analysis demonstrate the performance of various classifiers taken in terms of the precision, recall, F1-score, RoC-Curve, accuracy, running time and k fold cross validation and helps in appreciating the novelty of the several deep learning techniques and also giving the user an overview of choosing the right technique for their application.
