The wild plant Prangos platychlaena Boiss belonged to the family Apiaceae, is a native plant of Kurdistan-Iraq. The root, leaves, stem and flowers of the plant were collected in the Hlgurd mountain of Kurdistan region of Iraq, and extracted by ethanol solvent to obtain the crude extracts. Our results showed that the phytochemical contents are more concentrated in the initiated growth stage than the other stages and the phytochemical concentration posatively correlated with temperature and negatively correlated with humidity. The physiochemical contents such as total carbohydrate, protein, coumarin and dry weight more concentrated in the leaves and flower than other parts. This experiment was conducted to reveal the toxicity of leaves of the P.platychlaena Boiss on the rat. The results revealed that leaves cause toxicity of rats and its lethal dose was 3.95g/kg this is due to the leaves part containing large amount of coumarin than other aerial parts. These finding sugested that this plant, specially their leaves must not be used as the fooder for animals

Yacon [Smallanthus sonchifolius (Poepp. et Endl.) H. Robinson], a native plant of the Andes, belongs to the family Compositae (Asteraceae). It represents a traditional crop from the original population of Peru. Most of the tuberous root biomass is constituted by water (> 70% of the fresh weight). Saccharides, especially oligofructans, form 70–80% of their dry weight. Four yacon ecotypes originating from Bolivia, Ecuador, Germany and New Zealand were cultivated on the trial fields of the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague in 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2001. Considerable differences among the ecotypes were observed in their content of inulin (141–289 mg/kg d.m.) and lesser for fructose levels (195–217 mg/kg d.m.). No differences were found in glucose and saccharose contents. The highest inulin and fructose contents were found in the harvests from 2001 and 2000, similar trends were found for glucose. Statistically significant effect on the content of all saccharides has the year of cultivation. Tubers contained much higher levels of inulin (179 g/kg d.m.) and fructose (193 g/kg d.m.) in comparison with rhizomes. No significant differences were found for saccharose (higher in rhizomes) and glucose (lower in rhizomes). The contents of inulin and fructose in the upper and lower parts of tubers were reciprocal. During the storage period of 140 days at10°C and 75% a relative humidity inulin content decreased by 48.7% and monosaccharides content increased (fructose by 9.97%, glucose by 31.4%) due to hydrolysis. Likewise saccharose content increased by 12.9%.

N-Methylprolines were detected in all fourteen species of Rhamnaceae tested, representing eleven genera and it is probable that these compounds are a chemotaxonomic feature of the family. Various species in different genera of other families previously reported to contain N-methylprolines were examined for their presence, but these were found as constituents of only a limited number of the tested species, although they were a feature of particular genera, for example Annona, Berberis, Phoradendron, Laurus and Trichilia. In most of the species found to contain N-methylprolines, their content was high, the yield from the majority of species being in excess of 0.5 % of the dry weight. In the limited number of N-methylproline-containing species in which both the aerial parts and roots of the same plant were tested separately, these compounds were detected in both, with the yields from the aerial parts being higher than those from the roots. The level of hydroxylation of the compounds in the aerial parts was higher than that in the roots.

This article examines the emergence of Zoroastrianism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since 2015 as a new religion inspired by Kurdish nationalism, feminism, ecologism and humanism. The author argues that the emergence of Zoroastrianism at this particular time is due to a combination of the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant in 2014, legislative change and the importance some Kurdish nationalists historically attached to Zoroastrianism as the suggested original religion of the Kurds. The article outlines the historical context of Zoroastrianism in Kurdistan, and then explores the origins, beliefs and organisational structure of Kurdish Zoroastrianism. Also discussed are the legislative changes enabling the rise of the movement since 2015. This study draws on interviews with Kurdish Zoroastrian leaders as well as with representatives from the World Zoroastrian Organization, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities.ABSTRACT IN KURMANJIJi nû ve pêxistina agir: Baweriya Zerduştî li Kurdistana IraqêEv gotar, li ser peydabûna Zerduştiyê li Herêma Kurdistanê ya Iraqê hûr dibe, ku ji 2015an vir ve wek dînekî nû yê ji netewegeriya kurd, femînîzm, ekolojîzm û humanîzmê îlham wergirtî tê dîtin. : The family Iridaceae contains 92 genera and more than 1800 species, mostly perennial herbs with underground storage organs called rhizomes (bulbs). Some genera are important in traditional medicines, especially Iris and Gladiolus. The genus Iris belongs to this family and comprises about hundreds species among them, 12 species are found in Iraq. It has been widely used various medicines worldwide especially Iris persica is used in folk medicine in the Kurdistan region of Iraq as an effective treatment against tumours, antibacterial, antifungal and treating inflammation. Earlier finding confirmed that Iris persica and its constituents play role in the scavenging of free radical generation and prevention of disease pathogenesis. Each part of the Iris persica herb has some medicinal property. This review gives a eagle eye view mainly on the biological activities of the Iris persica and some of their compounds isolated, pharmacological actions of the Iris persica extracts and products, and plausible medicinal and therapeutically applications.

Most current studies on the relationships between plans and engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) are focused on food crops, while the effects on spontaneous plants have been neglected so far. However, from an ecological perspective, the ENMs impacts on the wild plants could have dire consequences on food webs and ecosystem services. Therefore, they should not be considered less critical. A pot trial was carried out in greenhouse conditions to evaluate the growth of Holcus lanatus L. (monocot) and Diplotaxis tenuifolia L. DC. (dicot) exposed to cerium oxide nanoparticles (nCeO2). Plants were grown for their entire cycle in a substrate amended with 200 mg kg−1nCeO2 having the size of 25 nm and 50 nm, respectively. nCeO2 were taken up by plant roots and then translocated towards leaf tissues of both species. However, the mean size of nCeO2 found in the roots of the species was different. In D. tenuifolia, there was evidence of more significant particle aggregation compared to H. lanatus. Further, biomass variables (dry weight of plant fractions and leaf area) showed that plant species responded differently to the treatments. In the experimental conditions, there were recorded stimulating effects on plant growth. However, nutritional imbalances for macro and micronutrients were observed, as well.

Infections associated with the emergence of multidrug resistance and mosquito-borne diseases have resulted in serious crises associated with high mortality and left behind a huge socioeconomic burden. The chemical investigation of Lavandulacoronopifolia aerial parts extract using HPLC–MS/MS led to the tentative identification of 46 compounds belonging to phenolic acids, flavonoids and their glycosides, and biflavonoids. The extract displayed larvicidal activity against Culex pipiens larvae (LC50 = 29.08 µg/mL at 72 h). It significantly inhibited cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase (CYP450), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and carboxylesterase (CarE) enzymes with the comparable pattern to the control group, which could explain the mode of larvae toxification. The extract also inhibited the biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by 17–38% at different Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) (0.5–0.125 mg/mL) while the activity was doubled when combined with ciprofloxacin (ratio = 1:1 v:v). In conclusion, the wild plant, L.coronopifolia, can be considered a promising natural source against resistant bacteria and infectious carriers.
