A field experiment was conducted at Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Edo state Iyanomo during the 2014 wet season to determine the comparative effects of sole and combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizer on soil, and Rubber seedling performance and the experiment consisted of six treatments. The treatments were laid in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The materials used were one strain of mycorrhizal (GC) applied at the rate of 5000kg/ha, NPK 15:15:15 at the rate of 112 kg/ha and poultry manure was also applied at the rate of 6000 kg/ha. Plant data; height, girth, leaf area and number of leaves were collected at monthly interval for seven (7) months. Soil samplings were obtained before, three months and seven months after application of soil treatment from 0-15cm depth and were subjected to laboratory analysis (chemical analysis). All data sets were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Genstat (2008) statistical package. The significant means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level of probability. Also the plant analysis was carried out at the end of the trial to determine the nutrient content which was used to calculate the nutrient uptake. The result show general increase in the chemical properties after application of treatments in organic matter, nitrogen, pH, calcium, potassium, Available phosphorus, ECEC and base saturation with values 6.74, 0.49, 6.53, 4.50, 1.50, 8.62, 10.68 and 99.85 respectively. Higher growth in plant height, (140.3, 133.0 cm) girth, (11.9, 10.5, respectively, were obtained after seven months of planting in the cropping seasons. The result of the nutrient uptake obtained showed that at 7 months after application of treatment. There was a general increase in the chemical properties of the soil through the addition of the different soil amendments (organic and inorganic fertilizer).

Abstract Low soil fertility is a major problem limiting peri-urban vegetable production in the Kumasi metropolis. This study was conducted to assess the effects of poultry litter biochar (PLB) and NPK fertilizer application on soil chemical properties and the yield of cabbage. Twelve treatments (control, 100% NPK, 50% NPK, 2.5 t ha−1 PLB, 2.5 t ha−1 PLB + 50% NPK, 2.5 t ha−1 PLB + 100% NPK, 5 t ha−1 PLB, 5 t ha−1 PLB + 50% NPK, 5 t ha−1 PLB + 100% NPK, 7.5 t ha−1 PLB, 7.5 t ha−1 PLB + 50% NPK, and 7.5 t ha−1 PLB + 100% NPK) were evaluated under field conditions in a randomized block design with three replications. Combined application of PLB and NPK fertilizer improved the soil chemical properties, growth, and yield of cabbage relative to the control and sole PLB treatments. Application of 5 t ha−1 PLB + 50% NPK increased the soil pH, soil organic carbon, available phosphorus, and cation exchange capacity by 26.6, 41.4, 296, and 78.7%, respectively, relative to the control. Moreover, 5 t ha−1 PLB + 50% NPK increased the cabbage yield by 73% compared with the control. This study concludes that PLB and NPK fertilizers can be applied to improve the soil chemical properties and yield of cabbage.

Field Study on Nutrient uptake and Physico – chemical properties of soil influenced by organic and inorganic packages in rice was carried out at Research Cum Instructional Farm IGKV., Raipur (C.G.) during kharif 2010 and 2011. The soil of experimental field was ‘Inceptisols’ (Matasi), which was low in nitrogen, medium in available phosphorus and potassium. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication. The treatments consisted of Basmati type rice variety viz. Kasturi Comprising organic, inorganic and integrated nutrient management. Treatment T1 (50% RDF + 50% N (CDM), T2 (100% N((1/3 rd each CDM +NC+CCR) T3 (100% N (1/3 rd each CDM + NC + CCR) + Green manure in rice), T4 100% N (1/3 rd each CDM + NC + CCR) +Deep summer ploughing), T5 (50% N(CDM)+RP+PSB+Azos.), T6 (100%N(1/3 rd each CDM+NC+CCR) + Azos.+ PSB) and T7 (100% RDF).among different nutrient management practiceshigher nutrient uptake in grain and straw were observed under treatment T7(100% RDF).followed by T1 (50% RDF + 50% N (CDM) an INM treatment.whereas water uptake was exceeding in100% N applied through 1/3 rd each CDM + NC + CCR + Green manure in rice. Bulk density, pH and EC were also exceeds in T7, except T6 (100% N CDM + NC + CCR + Azos + PSB) which has higher OC.

<p>Rate of NPK fertilization on rice using NPK compound fertilizer needs to consider soil nutrient status and plant nutrient requirement. The research was aimed to determine the optimum rate of compound fertilizer and the effect of enriched S nutrient of NPKS compound (15-15-15-5S) and NPK compound fertilizer (15-15-15) on the growth and yield of rice. The experiments were conducted at two sites in Galuga, Ciampea Bogor, West Java from April to September 2013, using randomised complete block design with 3 replications. Experiment at site I consisted of 9 treatments: six levels of fertilizers NPKS i.e. 0; 150; 300; 450; 600; and 750 kg/ha, standard fertilizer, NPK compound fertilizer equivalent to standard, and standard fertilizer plus S. Rate of urea, SP-36, and KCl for standard fertilizer treatment was respectively 250, 75, and 50 kg/ha. At site II the treatments consisted of 6 levels of NPK compound fertilizer i.e. 0; 150; 300; 450; 600; and 750 kg/ha and the standard fertilizer with rate of 250 kg/ha of urea, 50 kg/ha SP-36, and 75 kg/ha KCl. Plot size was 4 m x 5 m planted with Ciherang variety. Data collection included chemical properties of soil before and after the experiment, plant height, number of tillers, straw weight, and dry grain weight and the nutrient uptake. The effectiveness of fertilizer was calculated by RAE (Relative Agronomic Effectiveness). Results showed that fertilizer NPKS (15-15-15-5S) at 600 kg/ha effectively increased dry grain weight from 3.63 t/ha to 4.67 t/ha, but was not significantly different from a standard fertilizer treatment. It increased dry grain weight by 29% compared to control. NPK fertilizer (15-15-15) effectively promoted growth and dry grain weight equivalent to standard fertilizer at rate of 300-750 kgha. The optimum rate of NPK compound fertilizer (15-15-15) was 440 kg/ha as was shown with the production performance of 4.12 t/ha with RAE by 58%. NPKS compound fertilizer with rate of 750 kg/ha showed the highest uptake of N, P, and K nutrients and significantly increased the available P in the soil. Whereas NPK compound fertilizer with a rate of 600 kg/ha indicated the highest P nutrient uptake. Fertilizer enrichment with sulfur on NPKS fertilizer (15-15-15-5S) did not significant affect on grain dry weight.</p>

Aim: To study the effect of season-long weed management using encapsulated herbicides on weed control, productivity and nutrient uptake of rice. Methodology: Field experiment was carried out with oxadiargyl encapsulated / loaded in zeolite, biochar, starch, water soluble polymer. It was compared with commercial formulation of oxadiargyl, butachlor, weed free check and weedy check. The experiments were laid out in randomized complete block design and replicated thrice. The physico-chemical properties of the experimental sites was sandy clay loam to clay loam in texture with pH ranging from 6.9 to 7.3, low organic carbon content, low available nitrogen, medium available phosphorus and potassium. Results: The lowest weed density and weed dry matter production of 47.3, 28.0 m-2 and 96.2, 32.8 kg ha-1 was observed in 2016 and 2017 respectively with the application of oxadiargyl loaded with zeolite at 20 DAT. Application of butachlor at 1.25 kg ha-1 fb hand weeding on 40 DAT and application of oxadiargyl loaded with zeolite recorded 86.7, 76.9 and 81.3, 72.8 percent higher grain yield in 2016 and 2017, respectively, as compared to weedy check. Higher N, P, K uptake was observed with application of butachlor at 1.25 kg ha-1 fb hand weeding on 40 DAT, which was comparable with oxadiargyl loaded with zeolite and oxadiargyl loaded with biochar during both the year. Interpretation: It can be concluded that oxadiargyl loaded with zeolite was more efficient in controlling weeds coupled with maximum growth and productivity under the constrained situation of manual weeding. This study aimed to examine Organonitrofos Plus fertilizer (OP) on sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata L.) and its effect on changes in soil chemical properties of Ultisols. Organonitrofos Plus fertilizer is an enhancement of Organonitrofos fertilizer enriched with microbes at the beginning of the manufacturing process. Research was conducted in the greenhouse of Integrated Agricultural Laboratory of Lampung University. Treatment applied was a factorial of 4 × 2 × 3 with three replications in a randomized block design. The first factor was the dose of OP fertilizer (0, 10, 20, 30 Mg ha-1), the second factor was the dose of inorganic fertilizers (without inorganic fertilizers, and with inorganic fertilizers, namely Urea 0.44, 0.28 SP-36 and KCl 0.16 Mg ha-1), and the third factor was the dose of biochar (0, 10, 20 Mg ha-1). By a single OP fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, and the interaction between the OP and the inorganic fertilizers increased the weight of dry stover, cob length, cob diameter, cob with husk and cob without husk of corn. OP fertilizers which are applied in Ultisols can improve soil fertility and increase corn production so that OP fertilizer can lessen the use of inorganic fertilizer and can be used as a substitute for inorganic fertilizer. RAE values were highest in treatment of O4K2B2 (30 Mg OP ha-1, with inorganic fertilizer, 10 Mg biochar ha-1) that was equal to 181%, followed by O2K2B3 (10 Mg OP ha-1, with inorganic fertilizer, 20 Mg biochar ha-1 ) with the difference in RAE value of 0.5%. The productivity of land and plants have decreased slowly, due to the use of inorganic fertilizers continuously. Efforts to improve productivity are reducing inorganic fertilizers and returning organic matter to the soil. The aim of this research are (1) to identify the chemical characteristics of biofertilizer with an indigenous microorganism as bioactivators and (2) to study the effect of biofertilizer on nutrient uptake of maize plant. The research was conducted at Laboratory, Greenhouse, and Experimental Field of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Payakumbuh, West Sumatra Indonesia. The first step experiment in the Laboratory was produced indigenous microorganism from banana humps. The second step of making bio-fertilizers in Greenhouse used a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments of indigenous microorganism (IMO) level 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% in biofertilizer with five replications. The third step of biofertilizer application on the Experimental Field used Randomized Block Design Factorial arranged with two factors and three replications, the first factor IMO level in biofertilizer (M) 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and the second factor was the dosage of inorganic fertilizer (P) 0%, 50%, 100% of the recommended dosage, 12 combinations of treatments were obtained. Results showed that microbe consortium (Enterobacter cloacae, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Aspergillus niger, and Trichoderma asperellum) in biofertilizers with different levels would affect the chemical characteristics of biofertilizer. Biofertilizers influences nutrient uptake of P and K maize plant, while inorganic fertilizer influences nutrient uptake of N and P maize plant.

The integrated use of chemical and organic fertilizers can help in sustainable and environmentally sound nutrient management of soils. A study was conducted in the farmer’s field of Godaghari, Rajshahi from February to May 2012 to investigate the effect of integrated nutrient management on nutrient uptake by rice cv. NERICA 10 and economization of inputs. Six treatments viz. T1 = Control, T2 = RFD for MYG + cowdung @ 5 t ha-1, T3 = RFD for HYG, T4 = RFD for HYG + cowdung @ 5 t ha-1, T5 = RFD for HYG + cowdung @ 5 t ha-1 based on IPNS, and T6 = RFD for HYG + 10% excess fertilizer of HYG were used. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results showed that the uptake of N, P, K, S, Ca and Mg by both grain and straw of rice were statistically significant due to use of integrated nutrient management. The highest nutrient uptake was recorded from the treatment T5 and the lowest value was obtained from control. Combined application of cowdung @ 5 t ha-1 along with recommended chemical fertilizers based on IPNS was more economic compared to other treatments because maximum benefit cost ratio was calculated from this treatment. The overall results suggest that integrated nutrient management can be used as an alternate option of chemical fertilization to achieve maximum yield, nutrient uptake and cost of return for rice cv. The aim of this study was to obtain the best combination of types and doses of ameliorant materials: dolomite, rock phosphate, and mineral soil to improve the chemical properties of soil which was incubated for one year in peat media in polybag. The research was conducted in May 2015 - April 2016 in the experimental garden in the village of Sijambi, Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra. Elevation 3 m above sea level, with the C2 (Oldeman) climate type. The experiment was compiled using a Randomized Block Design, with 3 treatments of ameliorant material. The three ameliorant materials were tested for 3 doses. The addition of dolomite treatment: A1=0.45 kg polybag-1; A2=0.90 kg polybag-1; A3=1.35 kg polybag-1. The addition of rock phosphate treatment: A4=0.45 kg polybag-1; A5=0.90 kg polybag-1; A6=1.35 kg of polybag-1. The addition of mineral soil treatment: A7=0.45 kg polybag-1; A8=0.90 kg polybag-1; and A9=1.35 kg polybag-1.The results shown that the highest dose of dolomite (1.35 kg polybag-1) improved soil chemical properties, including soil pH and alkali cations (K, Ca and Mg) on incubated peat soil. Addition of rock phosphate with the highest dose of 1.35 kg polybag-1 (A6) increases available phosphorus and soil CEC. Addition of mineral soil dose of 0.90 kg polybag-1 (A8) increases soil CEC. In the analysis of total soil nitrogen, the highest increase was obtained by adding dolomite dose of 0.45 kg.polibag-1 (A1).

The growth and yield of cucumber in response to the effect of poultry manure and inorganic fertilizer (NPK 20:10:10) was evaluated at the Teaching and Research farm of Kogi State University Anyigba, Nigeria during the 2021 raining season. Treatment consisted of poultry manure which was applied at 0, 7.5 and 15t/ha and inorganic fertilizer (NPK 20:10:10), applied at the rate of 0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6t/ha respectively. The experiment was laid in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates following all agronomic practices as recommended. Combined rates of poultry manure at 15t/ha and 0.6t/ha of fertilizer were found to significantly increased (P≤0.05) growth characters such as number of leaves, vine length at 4, 6 and 8WAS. Longest vines of 602.75cm and 213.75leaves was obtained with combined application of 15t/ha PM + 0.6t/ha NPK fertilizer at 8WAS respectively. Similarly, Fruit length, Number of fruits, Fruit weight/plant, Fruit yield/ha were significantly influenced (P≤0.05) by the combined application of 15t/ha PM + 0.4t/ha NPK, while the control plots consistently gave the least yield across sampling periods.
