This research is aimed to analyze students’ English lesson attitude and its effect on their English achievement. This research is a pre-experimental and it was carried out at one joint-cooperation school in Surabaya, Indonesia. Since English is the language that mostly used at the joint-cooperation school, the parents that sent their children there must have high expectations of their children’s English ability. This pressure can affect the students in learning English in the class. Some students will have negative attitudes in learning English because their parents do not want them to fail. Therefore, the researcher took a sample of 17 students in grade 3 as her subjects. The writer used a questionnaire to measure students’ attitude towards English lesson and compare it with students’ English score. The result shows that students’ attitudes do affect their English achievement. Those students who have positive attitudes towards English will stimulate their mood to absorb the information better.

In education, computers and calculators historically have been associated with mathematics and the sciences, and are frequently incorporated into these areas of the curriculum. This may have serious implications for females because of the long history of reported sex differences in achievement and attitudes in mathematics and related disciplines. This study of sixty high school students examines the relationship between mathematics performance and students' attitudes toward technology (computers and calculators), and whether the relationship is similar for males and females. A practice form of the General Educational Development (GED) test was used to measure mathematics performance. Students' attitudes toward computers were assessed by the Computer Attitude Scale, and attitudes toward calculators were assessed by a 4-item measure developed by the authors. In general, students with more positive attitudes toward computers and calculators were found to perform better than students with more negative attitudes.

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using flipped classroom model on learning English as a foreign language and students’ attitudes towards flipped classroom. The sample of study consisted of 31 students at Faculty of Arts, Misurata University. The participants were divided into two groups: 16 students for the experimental group and 15 students for the control group. The data collection tools used in this study were an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) test and a questionnaire to explore students’ attitudes towards flipped classroom. Participants in both groups were pre-tested using the EFL test before the experiment. Then, the experimental group was taught using flipped classroom strategy while the control group was taught using the traditional teaching method. After the experiment, students in both groups were post-tested using the EFL test while the questionnaire was administered to the students of the experimental group only. The results of the study showed that applying the strategy of the flipped classroom had a significant effect in increasing the students’ performances in learning English. The questionnaire responses showed positive attitudes regarding the use of flipped teaching.

AbstractThis study investigated Afghan students’ attitudes and motivation toward learning English at six different universities in Afghanistan. Several factors were believed to influence their success in learning English (i.e., motivation types as a major factor together with variables, such as gender, grades, fields of study, parental/teacher involvement, language learning anxiety and academic achievement). In searching for a reliable attitudinal profile of the subjects, quantitative research methodology was adopted along with mixed research techniques. The data was collected from 457 university students (273 male and 184 female) and 12 university EFL teachers through questionnaires and interviews. The findings showed that most of the Afghan university students held a positive attitude toward learning English and they were highly influenced by three types of motivation (i.e., instrumental, integrative, and intrinsic). Significant differences were found in the attitudes of students in terms of their fields of study, grades, and language learning anxiety. Interestingly, the findings also showed that some students were demotivated to learn EFL due to the propagation that English will no longer widely be used if NATO and US forces leave Afghanistan. It is suggested that EFL teachers should adopt motivational strategies in their classes to develop students’ positive attitudes and enhance their motivation toward learning EFL.

Purpose of the study: The attitudes of students when learning are behaviors that can be learned from psychology. This study aims to determine the comparison of students' attitudes towards physics and biology in Adhyaksa 1 Senior High School in Jambi City and the State Senior High School 8 in Batanghari Regency, Indonesia. Methodology: The sample used was 282 students consisting of 140 students at Senior High School Adhyaksa 1 Jambi, and 142 students at Senior High School 8 Batanghari, and this type of research was a comparative quantitative study with a survey design. The instrument used was a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Main Findings: The results obtained indicate that there are differences in the attitudes of students at senior high school Adhyaksa 1 Jambi with Senior high school 8 Batanghari with a ratio of 0.046 attitudes toward physics and 0.032 attitudes toward biology. Shows that students' attitudes toward physics and biology have some comparisons in the Batanghari region and the Kota Jambi. Applications of this study: These findings can contribute to the realm of psychology to enhance students' positive attitudes towards physics and biology subjects in secondary education institutions, especially in the Indonesian region. Negative attitudes towards science, especially towards physics and biology such as those found in senior high schools in the Batanghari Regency and Jambi City, need to be pursued to become positive attitudes. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research is to explore the quality psychology knowledge of students for Physics and biology teachers, especially in education. Besides, to find out how students' attitudes towards science, especially physics and biology. In this case, the student attitudes towards physics and biology in the Batanghari Region and Jambi City.

<p>This article aims to provide the results of a research focusing on 12<sup>th</sup> graders’ attitudes towards English as a Foreign Language in two secondary schools in Puerto Montt, Chile. Attitude towards a language has been considered as an important factor that influences the process of learning a foreign language (Shams, 2008); for this reason, it is fundamental to identify students’ attitudes since positive attitudes towards English allow the students to have favourable orientation towards learning it (Karahan, 2007). Under this premise, this study corresponds to a case study that includes a quantitative method of data analysis. A survey of five dimensions was conducted amongst 154 students in order to measure their attitudes towards the target language. The results show that their attitudes towards English as a foreign language are favourable; however, the dimensions related to learning English, and English as a subject at school obtained unfavourable attitudes. </p>

Sex differences in the positive association between attitudes toward mathematics and attitudes toward computers were examined in 1 018 Grade 8 students and 800 Grade 12 students. The female students were more likely than the male students to associate negative attitudes toward mathematics with negative attitudes toward computers. Participation in an eighth-grade mathematics course with a computer component was associated with positive attitudes toward computers for males but not for females. The integration of computer experiences with mathematics instruction may require some caution to yield more positive attitudes toward mathematics and computers from secondary school females.

Learning idioms is an uphill battle for many language learners. Thus, this quantitative study aims to shed light on English as Foreign Language (EFL) college students’ attitudes towards idiom learning. Specifically, the study is interested in revealing their attitudes towards (1) the importance of idiom learning, (2) the difficulties of idiom learning and (3) the learning strategies of idioms. Additionally, the study attempts to determine if there is an influence of age and/or year of study on the students’ attitudes towards learning English idioms. Participants were 218 female EFL college students at the College of Basic Education (CBE) in Kuwait. A five-point Likert-scale questionnaire was employed to obtain data for the study. Data analysis of the questionnaire uncovered the learners’ preferred strategies and sources of difficulties when learning idioms. Results showed that students had positive attitudes towards English idiom learning. Significant differences in the results were found when age was taken into account.

<p>This paper presents the results of a field study which was carried out to identify Jordanian EFL students' attitudes towards learning English idioms. The study sample consisted of 94 students majoring in Translation and English Language and Literature at Yarmouk University, Jordan. A questionnaire was used to investigate the subjects' attitudes. The findings show that the majority of the participants have positive attitudes towards learning English idioms as they believe in their importance for achieving effective communication in English. Moreover, the data show that neither the subjects' gender nor their academic major has a significant effect on their attitudes towards learning English idioms as most of the participants displayed a highly positive attitude towards learning these idioms.</p>

This study examines the experiences and beliefs of university students which affect attitudes toward palliative care. A total of 322 students responded to a survey on palliative care and end-of-life attitudes. Almost 40% of the students reported not having enough knowledge about options at the end of life. Results of multiple regression indicate students who have more negative attitudes toward palliative care did not believe in end-of-life care planning. Female students and those who had a family member or friend who used palliative care had more positive attitudes toward palliative care. Understanding student perceptions of palliative care allows for developing curriculum sensitive to learners’ needs and addressing misconceptions.

Considering the importance of attitudes, this study was conducted to identify the attitudes of Chinese Literature Students toward learning English, which is divided into three specific aspects namely: cognitive, affective, and conative. 91 Chinese Literature Students at a University in Indonesia were chosen as the research participants. Using survey design to achieve the objectives of the study, 91 questionnaire sheets were administered to the participants. It was found that the participants have positive attitudes based on three aspects: mean score of 3.73 (74.59%) for cognitive, 3.40 (68%) for affective, and 3.61 (72%) for conative aspects. In terms of attitudes level, 16 (18%) students were low, 56 (62%) were high, and 19 (21%) students were very high. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that Chinese Literature students have positive attitudes towards EFL learning with mean score of 3.58 (72%). Some suggestions are provided regarding the finding and discussion of this research for Chinese Literature students, English teachers/lecturers, curriculum developers, and for future researchers.
