Fats, oils and greases in waste water frequently cause serious environmental problems. A commercial preparation was tested for its ability to degrade oil and grease in wastewater. As substrates, two fats (lard and beef fat) and four oils (rape seed oil, sunflower oil, palm oil and olive oil) were chosen. The degradation ability of commercial preparation for different substrates was investigated by the determination of lipid degradation at pH 7, temperature 25 °C, aerobic condition and agitation at 160 rev/min for 14 days in Erlenmeyer flasks. Simultaneously, the lipolytic activity was spectrophotometrically determined at 420 nm. All tested substrates were degraded by the different rate to basic units (fatty acids). Rape seed oil and lard were decomposed by bacterial lipase from commercial preparation.

Extraction of castor oil is important in determination of the quality of castor oil extracted. The quality of castor oil being extracted has to meet the ASTM standard that has been produced. The way of extraction can be either mechanical extraction or chemical extraction that is practically used in the industry which give the highest yield of oil extracted. Castor oil is mainly composed of ricinoleic acid in high concentration. It is a unique vegetable oil that contains high content of fatty hydroxyacid.

Hemp seed oil (HSO) has received considerable attention for its health properties, especially due to unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) content. In this work, the triacylglycerol (TAG) fraction of Italian and Extra-European HSO was characterized by applying an enzymatic approach, based on the use of pancreatic lipase and sn-1,2-diacylglycerol kinase. This procedure allows determination of the intrapositional FA% composition of TAG. The results of the stereospecific analysis are useful for deepening knowledge on HSO nutritional aspects. The high percentage of UFA (88.3–89.9%), in particular essential FA (74.4–85.9%), of HSO samples in sn-2 position is important for long-term health effects, but also to enhance the use of this oil as a functional ingredient in food, cosmetic and nutraceutical fields. Furthermore, the results of total and intrapositional FA % compositions, subjected to principal component analysis, were able to differentiate HSO Italian samples from Extra-European ones. Based on the obtained results, it can be stated that the stereospecific analysis represents a potent analytical tool providing the fingerprint of TAG fraction, useful to highlight possible chemical descriptors for HSO authenticity and traceability purposes.

With the exhaustion of fossil energy sources in sight, the importance of the renewable sources of energy becomes one of the major conditions for permanently sustainable development not only in agriculture, but also in the society as a whole. The growing use of biodiesel has opened other areas of utilising the by-products from the manufacture of rape seed oil methyl ester (FARME) as an energy source, used in the combustion equipment designed for these alternative fuels. The aim of this paper is to assess the feasibility of utilising the by-products from the production of rape seed methyl ester as a source of energy, from ecology and economy aspects of the combustion equipment used. Therefore, the study is focused on the concentration of emissions generated by burning FARME, and distillation of residuals from FARME production plants. An important objective of this study lies in the determination of the stoichiometry characteristics of rape seed oil methyl esters and distillation residuals from FARME production plants. The following parameters are set by calculations: fuel heating power, oxygen amount (air) necessary for ideal combustion, flue gases amount and composition, and flue gases specific weight.

Corrosion of reinforcement is an important durability concern for the structures exposed to coastal regions. Since corrosion of reinforcement involves long periods of time, impressed current technique is usually used to accelerate the corrosion of reinforcement in laboratories. Characterization of impressed current technique was the main focus of this research,which involved determination of optimum chloride content and minimum immersion time of specimens for which the application of Faraday’s law could be efficient. To obtain optimum chloride content, the electrolytes in the corrosion cell were prepared similar to that of concrete pore solutions. Concrete prisms of 200 mm by 200 mm by 300 mm were used to determine the minimum immersion time for saturation. It was found that the optimum chloride content was 35 gm/L and the minimum immersion time for saturation was 140 hours. Accounting the results, a modified expression based on Faraday’s law was proposed to calculate weight loss due to corrosion. Journal of Engineering Science 11(1), 2020, 93-99

Eternal return is the paradox that accounts for the interplay between difference and repetition, a dynamic at the heart of Deleuze's philosophy, and Blanchot's approach to this paradox, even and especially through what it elides, further illuminates it. Deleuze draws on Blanchot's characterisations of difference, forgetting, and the unlivable to depict the ‘sense’ produced via eternal return, which, for Blanchot, is where repetition implicates or ‘carries’ pure difference. However, for Deleuze, difference and the unlivable are also developed by the living repetition or ‘contraction’ of habit, which results in his distinctive characterization of ‘force’, ‘levity’, and sense in eternal return.

Abstract Two case-studies on uncommon metals whiskers, performed at the Reliability Analysis Laboratory (RAL) of Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems, are presented. The components analyzed are an Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO) and an Electromechanical Relay. Investigative techniques were used to determine the chemical and physical makeup of the metal whiskers and develop an understanding of the underlying effects and mechanisms that caused the conditions conducive to whisker growth.
