The World Health Organization (WHO) defines climacteric as a biological phase of life and not a pathological process, which refers to the transition between the reproductive and non-reproductive periods of women's lives. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of climacteric women attended by the Carlos Scholtão Family Health Units and Jardim Botânico. This is a quantitative study, in which 41 women were evaluated, with symptoms related to the climacteric, age from 40 to 65 years, without hormonal therapy. To collect data, two questionnaires were applied, first one with questions related to socio-demographic data, health status and life habits, and to collect data on women's health, the Women's Health Questionnaire (QSM), developed and validated by Hunter in 1992. Through the study it was demonstrated that the climacteric symptoms did not significantly interfere in the quality of life of the women surveyed. It was also observed that even without reported symptoms, many reported using antidepressant medications, which may interfere with the intensity of the climacteric symptomatology. Research has shown to be different from most studies that deal with women's quality of life in the climacteric, which reinforces the importance of local studies with different approaches. Through the research the interest was aroused by the self-knowledge in the participants and evidenced that the nursing has an important role in the incentive of self-care. At the end of the research it was observed that some women had difficulty understanding the questionnaires, which suggests the application of other methodologies in future studies.

AbstractIntroductionOne of the noted features of COVID-19 is the spectrum of expressivity in symptoms among those with the disease, ranging from no or mild symptoms that may last a small number of days, to severe and/or longer lasting symptoms. It is emerging that many patients have long lasting symptoms, several months after initial infection with COVID-19. The aim of this research was to characterize post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS).MethodsThis was a retrospective cross-sectional observational study. Participants were patients recovering from COVID-19 infection, enrolled in Mount Sinai Hospital’s COVID-19 Precision Recovery Program (PRP). Inclusion criteria were confirmed or probable (based on World Health Organization criteria) initial diagnosis of COVID-19; post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (defined as experiencing symptoms > 6 weeks since acute symptom onset) and being currently enrolled in the PRP during the months of July and August 2020. Study survey data were collected using REDCap. Demographic data, COVID-19 clinical data and patient-reported outcomes for breathlessness (Medical Research Council Breathlessness Scale), fatigue and quality of life (EuroQoL 5D-5L) were collected.Results84 individuals with PACS were included. Symptoms persisted at mean (range) 151 (54 to 255) days. The most prevalent persistent symptoms were fatigue (92%), loss of concentration/memory (74%), weakness (68%), headache (65%) and dizziness (64%). Most participants reported increased levels of disability associated with breathlessness, increased fatigue and reduced quality of life.ConclusionsPersistent symptoms following COVID-19 infection are prevalent, debilitating and appear to affect individuals regardless of acute infection severity or prior health status. More detailed research is required in order to identify specific symptom clusters associated with PACS, and to devise effective interventional strategies.

Abstract Introduction Quality of life (QL) is subjective and must be based on a multidimensional construct and on positive and negative factors in the individual’s life. Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the QL of the students of the Postgraduate Program in Dentistry (PPGO) of the Federal University of Ceará. Material and method Cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, conducted with 88 students regularly enrolled in PPGO. The QL was measured by the World Health Organization Questionnaire for Quality of Life-bref (WHOQOL-bref). For a better analysis of the QL scores, they were categorized into three levels: dissatisfaction, uncertainty and satisfaction. A multinomial logistic regression model was used. Result The majority of the respondents (55.7%) was classified in the area of satisfaction with QL, with 14,05 total average scores, corresponding to 62.8% of the total. By associating the socio-demographic data with the categories of analysis of QL, it was observed relevant in single students (p=0.005), those who considered themselves religious (p=0.041) and those who did not have a postgraduate scholarship (p=0.025), being evaluated in the area of dissatisfaction/uncertainty about the QL. Conclusion It was concluded that marital status, religion and scholarship in postgraduate school were relevant in the QL of stricto sensu postgraduate students in Dentistry.

Background: There are various ways to improve the quality of life of social groups. Evaluation of these strategies and improvement of the quality of life of nursing staff should be prioritized by the healthcare administration. Objectives: This study aimed to measure the quality of life and related factors in the nursing staff of three selected hospitals. Methods: This periodic descriptive study was conducted on 200 nurses working in three hospitals of Tehran, Iran. The quality of life data were collected using the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire, and the demographic data were collected and analyzed in SPSS for Windows, version 16 (released in 2007, SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA). Results: The average scores of physical, mental, social, and environmental health were measured in this study. Mental health showed the highest score, whereas environmental health had the lowest score. No significant correlation was found between the nurses’ income level and quality of life. Conclusions: The environmental and social health scores were significantly higher in married women as compared to men. Also, the score of social health was higher in married nurses, regardless of gender. Therefore, improvement of nurses’ quality of life should be prioritized by health managers in healthcare plans in the light of various factors described in this study.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Portuguese version of the Women's Health Questionnaire. METHODS: In order to evaluate the Women's Health Questionnaire (WHQ), an analytical cross-sectional study was carried out at the women's menopause outpatient clinic of a university hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. There were studied 87 women in perimenopause or menopause, defined as experiencing at least one year's absence of menstrual flow. The following variables were collected: demographic data, clinical variables (Kupperman index and correlate numeric scale) and quality of life indexes (SF-36 and utility). RESULTS: The WHQ proved to be a questionnaire easily translated into Portuguese and well-adjusted to Brazilian women. The internal consistency of the overall WHQ was excellent (Cronbach alpha =0.83; 95% CI: 0.71-0.91). Test-retest reliability was also excellent (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]=0.92; 95% IC: 0.86-0.96) and had good absolute agreement (0.84; 95% CI: 0.71-0.92). A satisfactory clinical validity was observed. The construct validity was corroborated by clear associations with others scales. A good index of responsiveness after the intervention was reached. CONCLUSIONS: The Portuguese version of the WHQ is of easy and fast administration and understanding. Its measuring properties were related, allowing its use in the evaluation of Brazilian climacteric women's quality of life for various purposes.

AbstractThis study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of magnesium (Mg)-vitamin B 6 replenishment and its correlation with clinical status in pregnant women (PW), and quality of life in women with hormone-related conditions (HRCW) and hypomagnesemia (HME). Data collected in four observational studies were pooled and analysed. All women received Mg supplementation for 4 weeks. The proportion of women with normalized Mg level, and the correlation between serum Mg dynamics and number of symptoms/complaints (PW) or changes in World Health Organization quality of life questionnaire scores (WHOQOL; HRCW) were evaluated. 869 PW and 957 HRCW were included in the study. Normalization of serum Mg level to ≥ 0.66 mmol/L occurred in 92.1% of PW and 78.4% of HRCW, and to ≥ 0.8 mmol/L in 73.8% and 58.9%, respectively. Mg normalization was accompanied by a median decrease of 1 symptom and 1 complaint in PW. Serum Mg level increase by 0.1 mmol/L was associated to significant changes in the WHOQOL scores in HRCW. Treatment of HME with the Mg for approximately 4 weeks provided a high response rate of Mg serum level, was associated with an improvement in symptom severity and complaints in PW, and WHOQOL score in HRCW. A 0.8 mmol/L cut-off appeared to be more relevant in terms of patient-reported outcomes.
