Vietnam is currently in the process of renovating the general educational curriculum, shifting from a content-based to a competency-based approach, with mathematical creativity as one of the core competencies. This paper aims to determine the correlations of perception, emotion, and behavior in sustainable development of mathematical creativity for primary school students in Vietnam. Analysis of 5th graders’ survey results in different regions in Vietnam (N = 903) shows that perception and emotion are highly correlated with the p-value Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (<0.01); emotion and behavior are also correlated positively with the p-value Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.01, while perception and behavior also have a positive correlation with the p-value Sig. < 0.01. From the analysis, there are positive correlations of perception, emotion, and behavior, in which the role of emotion has the strongest effect on the process of teaching mathematical creativity for Vietnamese primary school students. At the same time, the analysis results show that there is no vast difference between students’ perception, emotion, and behavior amongst the urban, plain, and mountainous areas in Vietnam. The paper affirms the necessity to discover and strengthen students’ mathematical creativity from the primary school levels to equip human resources with essential competencies to face future obstacles in achieving sustainable development.   Received: 19 October 2021 / Accepted: 7 December 2021 / Published: 3 January 2022

Aim. The article provides a new solution to the problem of the formation of sustainable development competencies in primary school students. The objective of the article is to substantiate the method of forming sustainable development competencies in primary school students and to reflect it in the model. Methods. The main research methods are observation, test, interview, questionnaire, analysis of media works, expert evaluation, and pedagogical experiment. A set of diagnostic tools has been specified. Results and Conclusions. The efficiency of the developed technique has been proved with the results obtained from the experiment: the partnership of teachers, students and parents contributes to sustainability competencies formation; implementation of common areas of media education and education for sustainable development evidenced to feasibility of the research, namely: education in legal, economic aspects, creation of media products with a projection to sustainable development, learning critical perception of mass media information, sustainability goals orientation. Due to the introduction of the experimental methodology, the number of students with high (12.07%) and satisfactory (14.65%) levels of the key competencies in the field of sustainable development increased against the background of a decrease in the number of respondents with sufficient (12.93%) and low (13.79%) levels. Originality. Emphasis is placed on the features of the designed methodology: application of partnership pedagogy and pedagogy of empowerment, integration of education for sustainable development with media education, compliance with a number of pedagogical conditions, forms and methods.

Background: In 2016, the number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) patients in Southeast Sulawesi has reported as much as 3,433 cases with IR 132.50 per 100,000 populations. The highest case incidence in Kendari reached 1,093 cases (IR = 372.80 per 100,000 population) with the highest cases in the age group 5-14 years reaching 44.9%. This study aims to examine the effect of snake-ladders modification game, as an educative game, for improving DHF prevention in terms of attitudes and behavior of scout students in elementary school.Method: The study is a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest group design by using purposive sampling. The subject is 50 students of Primary School Scouts in the working area of Puskesmas Poasia, Kendari City. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests.Results: There is an increase of knowledge (p < 0,001), attitudes (p < 0,001), and practices (p < 0,001) of primary school students in the prevention of DHF by providing educational game through snake-ladders modification. It recommends that educational game needs to be developed for health education in elementary students.

Technology and mathematics are two things that are interconnected and influence. Technology, such as computer games, can be used to describe abstract mathematical concepts so that they are more easily understood by students. Unfortunately, technology also has some undesirable impacts, such as causing students difficulties in developing their creativity to understand mathematical concepts. On the other hand, spatial ability gets less attention than educators when students are studying mathematics. This paper will discuss how teachers can help students develop their mathematical creativity and spatial ability.

This research aims to determine 1) the possibility of integrating stereoscopic 3D images into textbooks as the medium giving material illustrations, and 2) the effect of using textbooks integrated with stereoscopic 3D images on the learning process.  This research was conducted through a quasi-experiment in primary schools by using control class and experimental class. This research was joined by 52 participants (26 students in control class and 26 students in experimental class). The research conclusions indicate that, 1) stereoscopic 3D images can be integrated into textbooks as illustrations increasing the primary school students’ perception about classroom activities (i.e., motivation, interest, challenge and excitement). and 2) textbooks integrated with stereoscopic 3D images are proven effective in improving the students' concept mastery, as seen from the independent sample t-test by using SPSS resulting in a probability (p) value of 0.000 with a significance level of 0.05 so that p < 0, 05.

Despite considerable discussion on the benefits of digital educational games, empirical research on their effectiveness in primary schools in China is limited. This case study aimed to promote the sustainable development of digital educational games in primary schools in China by examining the effect of digital educational games on primary school students’ vocabulary acquisition and ascertaining their perceptions and attitudes toward this approach. Given the purposes of this study, an embedded mixed methods research design was employed. Two Grade 4 classes at a Chinese primary school were recruited in this study. During the quasi-experiment, the experimental class (n = 50) was provided with educational game software, Quizlet, while the control class (n = 50) was taught through a traditional teaching method. The results show that integrating educational games into language education in the primary schools was effective in improving students’ vocabulary acquisition. This study makes a case for further research of digital educational games in language classrooms at a primary level in China. Implications are made regarding the future sustainable implementation of digital educational games in primary schools in China.

Background: Pediculosis capitis or head lice infestation is one of the most critical public health problems, primarily involving primary school children. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Pediculus capitis contamination among primary school students in the villages of Varzaqan city, East Azerbaijan province, Iran, in 2020. Methods: Overall, 400 primary school students aged 7 - 12 were selected through convenience sampling. First, a demographic checklist was filled out for each participant, and then hair examination was carried out individually and privately to detect head lice or eggs/nits. The data analysis was performed using descriptive (frequency and percentage) and analytical methods, including chi-square and t-tests (SPSS, version 16). A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Of 400 students, 41 (10.3%) were infested with P. capitis. The prevalence rate significantly differed between boys (6.2%) and girls (14.8%). There was a significant association between pediculosis and mother’s education, father’s job, family income, history of infestation, number of combs per day, and frequency of hair washing per week. Conclusions: According to the prevalence of head lice in primary school children, we need to increase the awareness and train children, parents, and teachers through further cross-sectoral cooperation between education and health centers. Also, the presence of a hygiene teacher at school to improve the health status of students can significantly reduce the prevalence of pediculosis.

This research focuses on intelligence quotient (IQ) of the primary school students in Mahasarakham Province. There are 5,053 subjects from 64 schools under the Mahasarakham Primary Education Office. Stratified Random Sampling is applied in selecting the subjects. The subjects are divided according to their districts and school sizes (Small, Medium-Sized, and Large) with three units: schools, classrooms, and students. The results are shown in both “Descriptive Statistics” to describe demographic factors and “Inferential Statistics” to compare the cognitive levels among the elementary school students from different demographic factors. The results of the study indicate that the IQ of the primary school students in Mahasarakham Province is at the normal level. Most of them, 3,358 students or 66.46%, have the average level of IQ. 148 students or 2.93% have the higher-than-average level while 68 students or 1.35% had the lower-than-average level. After considering the IQ of the students on an individual basis in the designated educational area, there are different factors contributing to the results including the sizes of the school, the parents’ education level, and the parents’ average monthly incomes (F = 2.521, P-value = 0.040). The level of intelligence is not only the result of genetics and environment, but also the result of many internal and external factors. The study shows that the level of intelligence among the elementary school students in Mahasarakham is at the average level with different basic information and factors such as individuals, families, and schools. Therefore, all related sectors to educational development should realize the importance of promoting the students’ intelligence in order to reach the students’ full potential.

Abstract Background: Unequivocally; malaria becomes major health problems among school children. Evidences of coordinated school engaged social and behavior change communication (SBCC) strategy is required to curb the disease; thus keeping momuntem to malaria eliemination. This study examined effectiveness of schools engaged SBCC approach on use of insecticide treated nets (ITNs) among primary school students in malaria endemic settings of Ethiopia.Methods: The school-community engaged SBCC intervention involving various educational and capacity building activities was implemented from Oct.2016 to Sept.2018 in 75 rural schools of Jimma to promote malaria preventive practices both at schools and community levels. A quasi-experimental evaluation design was employed enrolling 798 randomly sampled primary school students (399 interventions and 399 controls). Data were collected using structured questionnaires by interveirwers and analyzed using SPSS 26 Amoss software. Propensity score matching (PSM) technique was applied to create approparite matching. Chi-square and general linear model was conducted to estimate the average effects of the intervention for dichotomous and continous outcomes respectively.Finally; multivariable logistic regression modelling was done to indentify predictors of ITN use. P-value < 5% was considered for statistical significance. Results: Effects of the interventions were observed on all measured psychographic dimensions with self-efficacy (β =25.87, 95% CI: 22.77-28.97) and perception of malaria threat (β =6.38, 95% CI: 4.08-8.68) showing highest and lowest effects respectively. Importantly; a difference of 39% (95% CI: 32.18-45.91) was observed with respect to ITN use between intervention and control groups. Multivarible logistic regression showed access to one and more ITN per two family members was associated to ITN use (AOR=1.76, 95% CI: 1.01-3.07). Similarily; unit increase in self-efficacy (β=0.101, 95% CI: 1.22-2.32), multidimesional knowledge (β=0.04, 95% CI: 1.01-1.06) and family support (β=0.04, 95% CI: 1.02-1.06) improve use of ITN by 10%, 4%, and 4% respectively.Conclusion: This study suggested that SBCC impelemetation that draw on combination of various interpersonal communication and stakeholders’ engagement approaches were effective promoting sustained malaria preventive behaviours in school going children. Indeed; it’s important to account for message contents and communication methods targeted to influence knowledge, risk perceptions and behavioral skills combined with family supports, access to ITNs and beyond
